Conspiracy theorist Paul Krugman speculated on Twitter Friday that President-elect Trump has an incentive to allow a major terror attack in the United States: Thought: There was (rightly) a cloud of illegitimacy over Bush, dispelled (wrongly) by 9/11. Creates some interesting incentives for Trump— Paul Krugman (@paulkrugman) December 16, 2016 It’s not hard to unpack this. Bush was elected in 2000 by the narrowest of margins. Less than a year later we had the worst terror attack on U.S. soil in our history. The attack caused the public to rally around President Bush. So, if President-elect Trump wanted a similar...

Paul Krugman went there in his hackish Monday New York Times column, “Predators in Arms,†arguing that Republican politicians tend to be sexual abusers. The text box: “Is there a partisan pattern here?†Krugman apparently has never heard of Bill Clinton accuser Juanita Broaddrick, or the infamous exploits of “Chappaquiddick†Sen. Ted Kennedy, or the statutory rape conviction of Democratic Rep. Mel Reynolds, or Rep. Garry Studds, who had a sexual relationship with an underage male page. And reporter Maggie Haberman had this weird description of Juanita Broaddrick, who accuses Bill Clinton of rape: "At other times, Mr. Trump retreated...

Singer, actress and liberal activist Barbara Streisand is trying to play the “I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar” gender card on behalf of her pal and Democratic presidential front-runner, Hillary Clinton. Streisand recently penned an op-ed in The Huffington Post last week, and how Clinton faces “outright sexism” in the presidential race. Very original. We haven’t heard that one before. She starts with the question, “Why is it that today even a woman as impressive as Hillary Clinton is judged not by her merits and extensive resume alone, but held to a pernicious double standard?” She writes that 22 years...

New York Times columnist David Brooks poses as a moderate who never stoops to being crabbily doctrinaire. He is the very model of a PBS/NPR "conservative" -- defining conservatism in a very 1950s way, as wearing dreary gray suits and liking Ike and Dick Nixon. Go along, and get along with the liberal elites. But as conservatives know all too well, people who pose as "moderates" -- politically and rhetorically -- have a way of losing their sweetly temperate nature when conservatives seriously challenge the liberal order of things. David Brooks is clearly not a moderate or temperate man when...

In a column entitled "Which Party Loves the U.S.A.?," the Washington Post's E.J. Dionne, Jr. presents an interesting formulation. Democrats love their country more than Republicans, because Democrats love it the way it is right now (with burgeoning non-white immigration, altering the demography), while Republicans (above all, Mr. Trump and Senator Cruz) "yearn for the United States of Then." It appears that Mr. Dionne has in mind more than a mere change in color among our people when he observes, "Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Martin O'Malley all stand for the rights of a younger America today's country that is...

On her eponymously named Sunday morning show, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry went into a mini-rant about racism in Star Wars as she complained about villain Darth Vader being "totally a black guy" when he was "cutting off white men's hands" who did not "claim his son," but then became a white man after he "claims his son and goes over to the good." MSNBC's Harris-Perry Gripes Over 'Totally Black Guy' Darth Vader as Evil CharacterDuring a segment about the upcoming The Force Awakens sequel, after a discussion about Princess Leia's slave girl costume from the 1980s at 11:44 a.m., the...

Texas Senator Ted Cruz has been rising in the polls of late, not only in Iowa, but nationally as well. (And high time, if you ask me.) It’s far too soon to declare him a resident of the top tier aside Trump with so few samples, but the prospect of his being a serious contender for the nomination can’t be discounted. And if he wins the Party’s endorsement, he may be in fine shape to take on Hillary Clinton and then be sworn in as the 45th President of the United States. So then what? Well, at least according to...

I never expected to write these words, but I miss Mitt Romney. On Wednesday, the day the front-runner for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination was in New Hampshire alleging that Syrian refugees fleeing for their lives may actually be clandestine terrorists, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee was in Washington, talking sense. “Donald Trump will not be the nominee,” Romney told a group of business-school students at Georgetown University.

As much of New England continues to dig out from late winter’s massive snowstorms, the climate change lobby is doubling down. When Boston was inundated with snow in January and February, they were quick to blame – what else—global warming? That’s still the favored explanation. Beantown got nearly two more inches on March 20, the first day of spring, and has now recorded 110.3 inches, easily shattering the record. In the last 21 years, Boston has had four of its top five heaviest snow seasons, according to weather.com. But before you suggest that this puts the kibosh on global warming...

Here we go again. One of the High Priests of the so-called "reality-based community" has for the umpteenth time pronounced Obamacare a great success, asserting that people who believe otherwise (like, for example, the majority of the American people) have either been deceived, or are liars. Paint-by-numbers acerbic Leftist, reactionary smear artist, and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman calls Obamacare horror stories "imaginary disasters," made up from whole cloth to scare people and undermine a law that's working and helping people.  We've spent quite a lot of time refuting variants of this argument in recent years, producing detailed responses to President Obama, Harry Reid, and two...

Hobby Lobby's objection on religious grounds to paying for abortion-causing contraceptives for its employees reminds Eugene Robinson of segregationists who cited the Bible in support of their views. In his great magnimity, Robinson allowed that the Hobby Lobby case "is perhaps a bit different." But if the WaPo columnist didn't think the segregation analogy was relevant, he presumably wouldn't have cited it in the first place on today's Morning Joe. There was also a point of light on the show. Donny Deutsch, after announcing that he was "far from a conservative," nevertheless went on to make the explicitly free-market argument...

In an interview with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Sunday's NBC Meet the Press, host David Gregory attempted to blame the war in Iraq for ongoing Islamic terrorism by citing the former head of Britain's MI-5 claiming the conflict "increased the terrorist threat by convincing more people that Osama bin Laden's claim that Islam was under attack was correct" and "provided an arena for the jihad for which he had called." In response, Blair blasted the argument: "We've got to liberate ourselves from this, because we're making a huge error when we end up thinking somehow it's our...

In the Washington Post last week E.J. Dionne penned an Op-Ed piece noting the “changing” historical image of former President Lyndon Johnson and feted this development by labeling it as “…a thoroughly justified revival of Lyndon B. Johnson’s standing.” This work is not, however, a simple nostalgic tribute to the 1960s. Dionne argues that this supposed LBJ revival shows that America is experiencing what he calls a “leftward tilt” and he hopes that our current President will, like Johnson, strike while the iron is hot to force irrevocable liberal change on the USA. In his piece Dionne sings the praises...

Much has been reported recently concerning Fox News anchor Bill O’Reilly and his pre-Super Bowl interview of President Barack Obama. Many of the Obama cheering section are stating that this action showed Obama’s courage in the sense that he was willing to consent to an interview with a supposedly hostile reporter from an anti-administration television network. Conservative viewers, on the other hand, saw this as an exercise in frustration since the President answered no questions, and spent his time lobbing thinly disguised barbs at the interviewer, and the interviewer’s employer. So, few minds were really changed by this supposedly “courageous”...

On Tuesday's PoliticsNation on MSNBC, during a discussion of Republican congressional members who have spoken of the possibility of impeaching President Obama, Washington Post columnist Dana Milbank labeled such talk "tribal politics" and compared it to a "revenge killing" against the President because he won the election. After host Al Sharpton played clips of several Republican members of Congress from a House Judiciary Committee hearing, Milbank dismissed the likelihood of impeachment and then added: But I think what this represents is not a serious effort to remove the President. But it's a certain frustration, and they said as much in...

Liberals really ought to thank the heavens above for George W. Bush, he comes in so handy for them. Whenever anything goes wrong in their hermetically-sealed reality, as everything connected to them eventually does, their Pavlovian response is to misdirect attention toward Bush. Latest example -- rollout of the misnomer of a track wreck known as the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, which became law three years ago without a single Republican vote on the basis of one of the most audacious lies repeated ad nauseum by an American politician -- if you like your health plan, you can keep...

Apparently the qualifications for becoming an MSNBC anchor consist primarily of being able to ask Republicans the intellectual equivalent of “when did you stop beating your wife?” Which explains how Thomas Roberts got the gig. While interviewing Representative Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) Roberts posed the following question: MSNBC Anchor To GOP Congresswomen: Do You Hate Obamacare More Than You Love Your Country? Understandably Blackburn seemed at an initial loss with her answer to the audacious and ideological insult, which Roberts had so cleverly disguised as an inappropriate question. Then again, he does work for MSNBC. He may seriously believe that...

Why Giving Republican Bullies a Bloody Nose Isn’t Enough Now is the time to lance the boil of Republican extremism once and for all.Since Barack Obama became president, the extremists who have taken over the Republican Party have escalated their demands every time he’s caved, using the entire government of the United States as their bargaining chit. In 2010 he agreed to extend all of the Bush tax cuts through the end of 2012. Were they satisfied? Of course not. In the summer of 2011, goaded by an influx of Tea Partiers, they demanded huge spending cuts in return for...

Here's your non-shocker of the day. Former Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod is giving President Obama, not Russian President Putin, credit for Syrian President Assad's agreement to turn over chemical weapons. If POTUS hadn't threatened credible military response, does anyone believe Russia and Syria would be coming forward now? No time to falter. — David Axelrod (@davidaxelrod) September 10, 2013 President Obama is still scheduled to make his case for a "military attack" on Syria tonight from the White House, but with the news breaking this morning the Russians and Syrians have reached a deal, you can bet his speech...

It takes a fair bit of gall to accuse the media of lying about a sex scandal. It takes even more gall to then admit to the sex scandal, resign, claim you've redeemed yourself and decide to run again. And it takes the most gall to do all of those things, even as you're engaged in a continuation of that sex scandal. But when your name is Anthony Weiner, gall is your middle name. Or perhaps Danger is. Weiner resigned from Congress in June 2011, but only after claiming that Andrew Breitbart had fabricated photos of his scantily clad body....
