A jury sentenced a Lakeview man to 10 years in prison for growing nearly 7,500 marijuana plants. Andrew Stever, 40, was sentenced on Monday after a three-day trial in the Federal District Court in Medford.Ten years is the mandatory minimum sentence for anyone convicted of growing 1,000 or more pot plants. In July 2007, officers from several local, state and federal agencies found 7,459 plants growing on Stever's Lakeview property, which bordered Forest Service land. Two men fled the scene, leaving behind personal property and three firearms, according to the U.S. attorney's office in Portland. Physical evidence and testimony linked...

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Federal immigration authorities raided seven Mexican restaurants in four states Wednesday, arresting 56 people, including 11 accused of conspiring to harbor illegal immigrants. The immigrants were primarily undocumented Mexicans forced to staff the restaurants for long hours with little pay to work off smuggling fees and rent, authorities said. Ten individuals were arrested in Mentor and Willoughby in northeast Ohio, at Jalapeno Loco Mexican Restaurant and two houses, said Greg Palmore, spokesman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Two face charges of conspiring to harbor illegal immigrants and the rest face immigration violations. The arrests began at...

The California Supreme Court, in a rare move, finally got involved in the war of words over the county's demographics. Earlier this week, it halted the proceedings in a double homicide case and agreed to review Hanlon's request for a change of venue, based on the "racial imbalance" of overwhelmingly white Lake County -- a land where dirt roads and double-wides coexist with wine country aspirations.

Meet the Candidates In the Ohio Republican Primary for 11th District Court of Appeals The Court of Appeals might appear boring to some, a ho-hummer to others. No juries present, the Court of Appeals hears cases concerning errors in the lower courts. Is Matlock even around? Dorothy Lee, Jeff Black, Paul Brickner - how do they feel about the subjects such as judicial activism? What about the doctrine of stare decisis? Would they side with the Taney Supreme Court? Or would Dred Scott have been a free man? As a magistrate does Dorothy Lee have the background to sit...

June 6, 2005 Angels come to you in mysterious ways! I was having some problems and God knows my life has been filled with misery and sorrow from the murder of my father, and I had spoken with a Police Officer there about my situation, we sat and talked for at least an hour, I can't even remember the time, I lost track because he was so interesting to talk to, I told him how I felt about myself, my self worth and how my self esteem was gone and gone forever, we then started discussing my website and how...
