       LOS ANGELES – A Sylmar man was charged today in a federal grand jury indictment alleging that he deliberately set Hollywood’s Pizzeria Mozza restaurant on fire during the civil disturbances that struck the city in late May.          Mario Ernesto Alvarado, 42, is charged with one count of arson. His arraignment is scheduled for August 10 in United States District Court. Alvarado was arrested on a federal criminal complaint in this case on July 16. At least 16 cars burned Saturday morning in Los Angeles bringing the total number of suspected arson fires to 44 over the last two days, sources told ABC News. One of the costliest racial harassment cases in the history of the Los Angeles City Fire Department grew more expensive Monday when a jury awarded $1.6 million to two white captains suspended after a black firefighter they supervised had his meal laced with dog food. Capts. LOS ANGELES -- The families of New York police officers and firefighters who were killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks arrived for a Southern California vacation Saturday, thanks to Los Angeles city and county firefighters. The firefighters raised the money to treat 44 family members to a weeklong all-expenses paid trip. Hotels donated rooms for the visitors. As the flight carrying the family members taxied into Los Angeles International Airport, local fire trucks doused the plane with water and escorted it to the terminal.
