Establishment Democrats remain concerned about preventing former President Donald Trump from completing the greatest political comeback in modern American history — even after President Joe Biden stepped aside for Vice President Kamala Harris. The concern spotlights Harris’s lack of a post-convention bump and the September 10 presidential debate, which will force Harris to speak about her radical record and how she plans to address the nation’s decline. National and swing state surveys show that Trump and Harris are statistically tied. In polling on specific issues, however, Trump holds a sizable lead, suggesting Harris’s so-called “honeymoon” stage was a sugar high.

Labor Day is a U.S. national holiday held the first Monday every September. Unlike most U.S. holidays, it is a strange celebration without rituals, except for shopping and barbecuing. For most people it simply marks the last weekend of summer and the start of the school year. The holiday’s founders in the late 1800s envisioned something very different from what the day has become. The founders were looking for two things: a means of unifying union workers and a reduction in work time.History of Labor DayThe first Labor Day occurred in 1882 in New York City under the direction of that...

The last ten weeks have been tumultuous for the American people, starting with the first presidential debate between Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden on June 27. The outcome was so one-sided that Democrats immediately pressured Biden to withdraw from the race. On July 13, there was an assassination attempt against President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. The lax security by the Secret Service led to investigations and a shakeup in leadership at the troubled agency.

President Joe Biden used his Labor Day address to attack his predecessor, Donald Trump, by claiming that the famed real estate mogul “didn’t build a damn thing.” Speaking in the swing state of Pennsylvania — a heavy working-class state — during a Labor Day rally, President Biden said that infrastructure became a “punchline” under Trump. “Guess what? The great real estate builder, the last guy here, he didn’t build a damn thing,” said Biden. “Under my predecessor, ‘Infrastructure Week’ became a punchline. On my watch, infrastructure means a decade, and it’s a headline.

President Biden on Monday mocked former Commander in Chief Donald Trump as a “great real estate” developer who “didn’t build a damn thing.”(snip) “Guess what? The great real-estate builder, the last guy here, he didn’t build a damn thing,” the 80-year-old president said during a Labor Day rally in swing-state Pennsylvania. “Under my predecessor, ‘Infrastructure Week’ became a punchline,” Biden said, referring to the dayslong Trump initiative in which his administration touted its national development plans. “On my watch, infrastructure means a decade, and it’s a headline,” the president said, adding that $10 billion was committed to Pennsylvania so far...

When Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894, government employees weren’t allowed to unionize. Now, they make up almost half of all union members. This would be unacceptable, even if they were all showing up to work. But they are not, and that adds insult to injury. President Joe Biden needs to make sure they do. Just 10% of wage earners are members of a union, down from more than 30% in the 1950s. The number is still falling. However, the percentage of public sector workers who belong to unions is much higher, at 33%, and rising. Some 7.1...

Two Pennsylvania State Education Association staff members were arrested Wednesday for trespassing on HACC’s Lancaster campus. The union employees, who had set up a table with information supporting HACC’s unionized faculty members, refused to leave when asked by campus security. East Lampeter Township police were called to remove them. “We have every right to be on campuses talking to faculty,” said Kathy Sicher, president of HACCEA, the union representing faculty. “We’re part of the campus, whether HACC likes it or not, we’re part of HACC.” The representatives – Lauri Lebo Rakoff, region advocacy coordinator, and Adam Weber, union representative –...

Those attending outdoor parties or barbecues in New York City this weekend may notice an uninvited guest looming over their festivities: a police surveillance drone. The New York City police department plans to pilot the unmanned aircrafts in response to complaints about large gatherings, including private events, over Labor Day weekend, officials announced Thursday. “If a caller states there’s a large crowd, a large party in a backyard, we’re going to be utilizing our assets to go up and go check on the party,” Kaz Daughtry, the assistant NYPD Commissioner, said at a press conference. The plan drew immediate backlash...

CNN — As families prepare to gather for Labor Day and children head back to schools, coronavirus cases are once again on the rise. Covid-19 hospital admissions are up more than 18% in the most recent week, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
