The mayor of Lexington, Kentucky, says after the events in Charlottesville, Virginia, he is taking the steps to remove two Confederate-era statues from the lawn of a former courthouse. Mayor Jim Gray tweeted Saturday he will ask the Lexington-Fayette County Urban County Council at its Tuesday work session to ask a state military commission for permission to take down the statues of John Hunt Morgan and John C. Breckinridge. Gray tweeted he intended to make the announcement next week, but the "tragic events in Charlottesville" had accelerated his announcement.

A transgender woman and her husband are suing Amazon, claiming they endured repeated discrimination and harassment while working at one of the company’s warehouses. Allegra Schawe-Lane and Dane Lane filed the lawsuit today in U.S. District Court in Covington, Kentucky. They allege they were targeted with threats, slurs and sexual harassment by co-workers at a shipping facility in Hebron, Kentucky.

A Corbin woman was charged with assault Monday night after she poured gasoline over her husband and set him on fire, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post. The victim, whose name was not released, suffered burns on more than half of his body and was taken by helicopter to a Cincinnati burn center for treatment, according to the sheriff’s office. The Executive Branch Ethics Commission has thrown out a pair of complaints accusing Gov. Matt Bevin of accepting an improper gift by spending $1.6 million to buy a home in March from a state contractor and member of the Kentucky Retirement Systems board that had been valued at around $2.5 million by the Jefferson County Property Valuation Administrator. The Kentucky Tourism Arts and Heritage Cabinet has suspended an incentive agreement worth up to $18 million with a Noah’s Ark-themed attraction in Grant County because the park transferred its main property to a non-profit affiliate. The July 18 cabinet letter to Ark Encounter attorney James Parsons said the ark park’s recent actions put it in breach of the agreement with the state to refund a portion of sales tax collected at the site, which opened last July with a large-scale replica of Noah’s Ark.
