Two Good Samaritans are being credited with saving a woman’s life after she was attacked by two suspected carjackers who hit her over the head after she left Walmart was putting her infant child into a car seat in the store parking lot in Shawnee, Kansas on Sunday. A U.S. Court of Appeals on Friday blocked an effort by Alabama, Georgia and Kansas for voters to furnish proof of citizenship when registering at the polls, which opponents say disenfranchises voters, especially minorities. The man who stabbed his wife twice last summer will not be sentenced to prison, a judge determined Thursday afternoon. Navinkumar Patel, 46, of Shawnee, was arrested in late June 2015 after he stabbed his wife in the abdomen at Lawrence's Super 8 Motel, 515 McDonald Drive, which he owns. He pleaded no contest to felony charges of attempted second-degree murder and criminal threat in March. Two men are being held in connection with the fatal shooting of a Kansas City, KS police captain, KCTV5 has learned. Prosecutor Jerome Gorman says Jamaal Lewis and Daqon Sipple, the men in jail in connection with Capt. Robert Melton's death, may not be charged until Thursday. Members of the Wichita, Kan., police department spent Sunday afternoon eating and talking with people from the community, at a cookout that was planned with the local Black Lives Matter group.
