Kel-Tec has announced an optical mounting system for their Kel-Tec P17 pistol. The plan appears to have the optic mounted at the factory on a Kel-Tec slide manufactured for the pistol. The entire system would quickly be interchanged with the existing slide. The optical system on the pistol at the Kel-Tec booth is a Crimson Trace, probably a CTS 1550 red dot sight. Chicago police have released a photograph of the weapon used in the Highland Park mass shooting on 4 July, where seven people were killed and dozens injured. On Monday evening, police arrested 22-year-old Robert “Bobby” Crimo after an hours-long manhunt around the city north of Chicago. A spokesperson for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force said the suspect used a rifle “similar to an AR-15” from atop a commercial building and fired into a crowd that had gathered for the parade in Highland Park. Youtuber James from TFB TV gets to review the Kel Tec Sub 2000 sub-rifle. This model is the 2015-new "Gen2" variant which has several upgrades over its very popular predecessor, which James discusses fully in this video. The SUB2000 folds completely in half and uses popular pistol magazines such as Glock 17 magazines. My smallest concealed carry is a Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380. By all accounts a quality pistol. In practice, though, I increasingly dislike it. The long 12-pound trigger pull prevents accurate, consistent shooting. After over a year and many hundreds of rounds, the results are all over the place. By comparison, I can place a six-inch result at 45-feet and at 21-feet, mostly in 3-inch, using either a Sig Sauer P320SC or, almost as well, with a S&W M&P Shield 40. 3D printed magazines have been successfully used by Kel-Tec for three years, I discovered at the NSSF Shot Show in Las Vegas yesterday. I talked to Tobias Obermeit, Lead Design Engineer at Kel-Tec, one of the most innovative firearms manufacturers in the United States. Mr. Obermeit said that "Without 3D printing, the PMR-30 would not have been developed, especially the magazine."
