It’s just the flu, bro…year 5 (a thread for Flubros and Flubras) Four years ago we started this series of threads based on the premise that…it’s just the flu, bro. Essentially that Covid is just the flu. It should have been nothing more, from an impact point of view, nothing more than a bad flu season. The symptoms, treatment, prevention techniques for Covid were all similar to that of the flu. We present as evidence… https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2024/p0301-respiratory-virus.html an excerpt- “The new guidance brings a unified approach to addressing risks from a range of common respiratory viral illnesses, such as COVID-19, flu,...

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Friday mothballed its longstanding COVID isolation guidance, announcing that people no longer need to isolate for five days after catching the coronavirus. Instead, per the CDC, they should stay home if they feel sick but can leave home and resume normal activities as soon as their symptoms are getting better and its been a day since they had a fever (without the help of fever-reducing medication). That means that the CDC is now both streamlining and simplifying its recommendations and advising people to treat their COVID infections like they would the flu...

HEALTH Infectious disease doctor says COVID testing is vital this fall as symptoms are less severe or obvious minnesota BY MARIELLE MOHS OCTOBER 15, 2023 / 5:46 PM / CBS MINNESOTA MINNEAPOLIS -- Flu season is well underway and now it's partnered up with the latest worldwide virus, COVID, as our "new normal." However, the impact of the virus for many is less severe. "I don't think there's going to be a public health recommendation for masking. It's just too potentially controversial," said Dr. Frank Rhame, an Allina Heath Infectious Disease Physician. Rhame says mandatory masking isn't coming back, even...

Doctors say they're finding it increasingly difficult to distinguish Covid from allergies or the common cold, even as hospitalizations tick up. The illness' past hallmarks, such as a dry cough or the loss of sense of taste or smell, have become less common. Instead, doctors are observing milder disease, mostly concentrated in the upper respiratory tract.

It’s just the flu, bro. Three years ago was the first “It’s just the flu, bro” thread. The threads were daily for a year and a half or so, but now it is an annual update. For this annual update, like future updates, we must remember: 1. we told you so, and 2. the literal and broader side effects of lockdowns, masks and mandatory vaccines are continuing to appear. Human fertility is down since all of this started. I am not sure how much is due to couples avoiding pregnancy due to fear and how much is due to the...

TUESDAY, Nov. 29, 2022 (HealthDay News) — For health care workers providing care to patients with COVID-19, the risk for COVID-19 does not differ significantly with use of medical masks versus N95 respirators, according to a study published online Nov. 29 in the Annals of Internal Medicine. Mark Loeb, M.D., from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and colleagues examined whether medical masks are noninferior to N95 respirators for preventing COVID-19 in health care workers providing routine care in a multicenter trial. Data were included for 1,009 health care workers at 29 health care facilities who provided direct care to...

Several top Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials, including Commissioner Robert Califf, admitted that Americans will now have to accept COVID-19 as another respiratory virus, comparing it to influenza.Califf, Principal Deputy Commissioner Janet Woodcock, and top vaccine official Dr. Peter Marks wrote for the Journal of the American Medical Association that COVID-19 will be around for the foreseeable future while suggesting that it will require yearly vaccines targeting the most threatening variations of the virus.“Widespread vaccine- and infection-induced immunity, combined with the availability of effective therapeutics, could blunt the effects of future outbreaks,” the officials said, referring to another name...

“Distinguishing COVID from flu can be difficult because the symptoms overlap so much,” explained Dr. Brooke Bozick, an NIH expert on respiratory diseases. Spectrum Health reports it is seeing patients who are fighting the cold and flu for up to a week. “We rely on getting [exposure to the flu and cold] every so often, so it gives a little boost to our immune system,” Sullivan said. “That way when we do get them, the symptoms are limited to three or four days until you start to feel better.” There is no cure for the common cold. Typical treatments include...

Florida once again recorded more coronavirus deaths than ever in a single week. The state logged 1,727 fatalities among residents over the past seven days, a comparison of Florida Health Department reports published Friday and Aug. 20 shows. Health officials also documented 151,760 more COVID-19 infections, the second-biggest amount in one week. Florida’s death toll stood Friday at 43,979 residents. The respiratory illness has infected 3,179,714 residents statewide since the start of the pandemic. In another sign that the virus has yet to subside — the highly infectious delta variant is the dominant strain — 16.8% of COVID-19 tests came...

This is turning into a banner day for evidence supporting the theory that the COVID-19 pandemic was the result of the virus leaking from a lab in Wuhan, China. Earlier today, RedState reported on the surprising flip-flop from the exalted Dr. Anthony Fauci. After over a year of dismissing the idea that the COVID-19 virus leaked from a lab, either purposely or inadvertently, Fauci’s now “not convinced” that the virus originated in nature (see: Fauci Admits He’s ‘Not Convinced’ COVID-19 Developed Naturally, Could Have Leaked From Lab). His change of heart is especially rich, given how combative he’s been with Sen....

The CEO of Covid-19 vaccine maker Moderna warned Wednesday that the coronavirus that has brought world economies to a standstill and overwhelmed hospitals will be around “forever.” Public health officials and infectious disease experts have said there is a high likelihood that Covid-19 will become an endemic disease, meaning it will become present in communities at all times, though likely at lower levels than it is now. Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel appeared to agree Wednesday that Covid-19 will become endemic, saying “SARS-CoV-2 is not going away.” “We are going to live with this virus, we think, forever,” he said during...

In the Southern Hemisphere, where the flu season happens during our summer months, the WHO data suggests it never took off at all. In Australia, just 14 positive flu cases were recorded in April, compared with 367 during the same month in 2019 – a 96 per cent drop. By June, usually the peak of its flu season, there were none. In fact, Australia has not reported a positive case to the WHO since July. In Chile, just 12 cases of flu were detected between April and October. There were nearly 7,000 during the same period in 2019.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — One of Utah’s largest hospitals had no beds left Friday in its regular intensive-care unit as the governor declared the state's weekslong spike in coronavirus cases “unsustainable." The University of Utah Health had to set up extra ICU beds staffed by doctors and nurses working overtime to care for its critical patients this week as the unit hit 104% capacity, said Chief Medical Officer Dr. Russell Vinik.

This is really STUNNING information! The Texas Department of Health released numbers recently comparing the coronavirus to the last two seasonal flu viruses. The coronavirus was actually less lethal than the flu in the state! The flu had a mortality rate of 0.03% and 0.04%. The coronavirus has a mortality rate of 0.01% in Texas. This won’t make any headlines. Via Dr. Andrew Bostom.
