This was allegedly a mistake. If so, why did the school have the flyers in the first place?A middle school in Washington distributed flyers to 8th grade students teaching them that sex for kids as young as 11 is acceptable as long as the partners are under 14. The source of the flyer was Planned Parenthood who operated at the school in the past.Stewart Middle School in Tacoma, WA, says the flyers were erroneously distributed by a new teacher who has now been disciplined in some way. But if the teacher was pulling from past materials, why were these flyers...

How can we help “transgender school children” (i.e., school children with gender dysphoria)? The necessarily frank answer is by keeping them away from the overreaching, uncompromising assertions made by the most vocal — though by no means most representative — trans activists. That’s the conclusion I’ve come to after debating a trans “celebrity” for The Spectator podcast about my cover story last week. You can listen here. In my essay, I examine the situation in schools both in the U.K. and the U.S. I start by sharing how, as a teacher in Scotland, I was trained by a government-funded campaign...

Some 300 young people from all over the world from different backgrounds and even different religions, gathered this week in Rome to provide advice to an upcoming summit of Catholic bishops on youth, have discussed a wide array of topics, and among other points plan to offer the bishops a frank admission that they simply couldn’t reach consensus on hot-button issues of sexual morality. On Thursday, they debated over a first draft of the document they’re going to present to Pope Francis, who will then pass it on to a Synod of Bishops on youth and discernment that will take place...

Americans' acceptance of sexual immorality is growing, according to a Gallup report. When asked about the moral acceptability of a range of issues, five of the top six issues that saw an increase in acceptability were related to sexual morality. The largest increase in moral acceptability from 2001 to 2015 was for homosexual relations, which increased 23 percentage points, from 40 to 63 percent. That was followed by having a baby outside of marriage (45 to 61 percent), heterosexual sex outside of marriage (53 to 68 percent), divorce (59 to 71 percent) and polygamy (7 to 16 percent). Also in...

Watching PBS? Might want to ask the kindergartners to leave the room. In a May 27 piece for tax-funded PBS, NewsHour producer Saskia de Melker argued “The case for starting sex education in kindergarten.” In her piece, she held up the Netherlands as an example for the United States in “sexuality education” – for those as young as 4-years-old to learn “honest conversations about love and relationships.”

WASHINGTON — A 17-year-old transgender youth, Leelah Alcorn, stunned her friends and a vast Internet audience in December when she threw herself in front of a tractor-trailer after writing in an online suicide note that religious therapists had tried to convert her back to being a boy. In response, President Obama this week will call for an end to such psychiatric therapies aimed at “repairing” gay, lesbian and transgender youth, White House officials said. His decision on the sensitive issue is the latest example of his continuing embrace of gay rights. In a statement to be posted on Wednesday evening...

A high school in Northern California is under fire for vastly overstepping boundaries in its sex education curriculum. A sex education class at Acalanes High School in Lafayette is being taught by employees of Planned Parenthood, and the content of the lessons and the materials being utilized, are highly controversial. Parents of the students are infuriated that they had not been given advanced notice that the sex-ed class was being taught by Planned Parenthood employees. Parents are further angered by the methods and materials being used in the lessons, which include a checklist that asks students whether they are “ready...

The Fremont Unified school board held off on adopting "Your Health Today" after parents complained that its presentation of frank sexual topics was unfit for teaching ninth-grade students. The majority of the nearly 60 speakers said they opposed using "Your Health Today" and objected to chapters that discuss prostitution, bondage, pornography and other frank sexual education topics. About two-thirds of the audience waved yellow signs that read, "Remove College Textbook." Others who favor adopting the new textbook waved green signs that read, "I support comprehensive sex education." The controversy started June 25, when Fremont school board members voted 3-2 to...

Alliance Defending Freedom issued two letters Thursday concerning Planned Parenthood’s involvement in sex education curricula that an Arizona school district has considered in recent weeks–curricula that, if adopted, would likely violate a state law that requires preference to be given to abstinence, childbirth, and adoption, not abortion. One of the letters exposes falsehoods in a recent Planned Parenthood Arizona e-mail about the pro-abortion group’s involvement in the Tempe Union High School District’s sex education curriculum considerations. The other letter asks the school district to recuse one of its board members from any consideration of the district’s adoption of sex education...

Last week American Life League tried to run a full page ad in the New York Times and Washington Post that showed images from actual Planned Parenthood sex education materials for kids as young as 10 years old. Both newspapers rejected the ad as “too graphic” and “shocking” for their adult readers to see. But the images are okay for kids in the classroom to see – at taxpayer expense. I have ALL’s ad posted on page 2. WARNING: It’s too vulgar to run on page 1. The backstory from ALL: To raise public awareness about Planned Parenthood’s controversial sex...

If you think by abstaining from teaching about sex within a moral framework that Planned Parenthood is not teaching a definite belief system to children, think again. ETR Associates—a sex program clearinghouse and offshoot of Planned Parenthood of Santa Cruz—admits on its webpage that a program being taught in North Carolina schools and elsewhere across the nation teaches toward four major “outcome expectancies or behavioral beliefs.” Belief number 4 is described in the ETR overview as “Hedonistic Beliefs.” Hedonistic philosophy places pleasure above everything else—as the greatest good. For more than 13 years, North Carolina mandated that its schools teach...

Press Release February 7, 2010 Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings Favorite Book for Teens Too Lewd for Seattle Times Newspaper says they can’t print quotes from the book because they are a family newspaper. Somebody up there has a wicked sense of humor. How else do you explain the release this week of a new study by John B. Jemmott III proving that an abstinence-only education program works? First President Obama slashes virtually all federal funding for abstinence-only education programs in 2010. ("It's about time that evidence-based management -- and sanity -- return to family planning programs," applauded Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-N.Y.) Then just last week, the Guttmacher Institute -- which is affiliated with Planned Parenthood, but usually does good science anyway -- reported that teen pregnancy rates are once again rising. Oddly, with...

Health clinics in six Denver high schools should be allowed to dispense birth control and emergency contraceptive pills, according to a new report by a health task force. "This is a real controversial issue," said Paul Melinkovich, who directs Denver Health's school-based clinics. "But teenagers are sexually active, and teen pregnancy is one of the largest reasons for the dropout of girls from high schools." ......

Some Boulder, Colo., High School officials have been given a "reprimand" for setting up and taking students as young as 14 to a seminar in which the children were told to "have sex, do drugs," but a request from the state legislature for further action has been turned down. Helayne Jones, the president of the Boulder Valley District School Board, read a letter at a public meeting on the issue stating that "actions" were taken on the complaints the seminar generated, and several Boulder High staff members were given "verbal reprimands." In addition, a letter was sent to parents...
