AMMAN, Jordan — Just after nightfall Feb. 3, a warrant arrived at the city’s main women’s prison for the execution of Sajida al-Rishawi. The instructions had come from King Abdullah II himself, then in Washington on a state visit, and were transmitted from his private plane to the royal court in Jordan’s capital. A clerk relayed the message to the Interior Ministry and then to the prisons department, where it caused a stir. State executions are complicated affairs requiring many steps, yet the king’s wishes were explicit: The woman would face the gallows before the sun rose the next day.

Fox News took the controversial step yesterday of posting the 22-minute video from the Islamic State terror group that shows Jordanian pilot Lt. Muath al-Kaseasbeh being burned to death. ISIS, known for its videos of hostage decapitations, apparently decided to up the ante Tuesday, reportedly releasing photos appearing to show captured Jordanian pilot Muath al-Kasaesbeh being burned alive. The U.S. government has not verified the images yet. al-Kasaesbeh was captured in late December after his plane went down in Syria; ISIS claimed to have shot the plane down, though intelligence sources disputed this. ISIS has been bargaining with three different hostages to secure the release of Iranian Sajida al-Rishawi, imprisoned by Jordan for a 2005 attack that killed 60 people. The Islamic State released a barbaric video of the Jordanian pilot that was being held prisoner and was used as bargaining chip, burned alive. Rear Adm. Sky News reports Jordan will execute Iraqi prisoner Sajida al-Rahaswi and five others linked to terrorist organizations in the upcoming hours. After burning Lt. Mu'ath al-Kasasbeh alive in a metal cage, the Jordanian government has since declared its intent to avenge the fallen pilot.

Militants fighting for the Islamic State terror group in Syria and Iraq have released a video they claim shows Jordanian pilot Maaz al-Kassasbeh being burnt alive while locked in a cage. The footage, which is titled 'Healing the Believers Chests' appears to show the captured airman wearing an orange jumpsuit as a trail of petrol leading up to the cage is seen being set alight. Flames are seen quickly spreading to the cage where they completely engulf the helpless pilot in images that are far too distressing to publish.
