“The Reintroduction of Kirsten Gillibrand” (New York Magazine, 6/7/09) * Her father was very close to D’Amato, Pataki, and Mario Cuomo. * Twice she was a summer intern in Senator D’Amato’s office in Albany. * She was awarded a clerkship with Court of Appeals judge Roger Minor. She received the highly coveted position despite not finishing in the top 10 percent of her law class (UCLA, class of ’91). “It was assumed that she received the position based on her father’s D’Amato connections.” “Paterson to City: Drop Dead.” (Mother Jones, 1/23/09) * Gillibrand interned for D’Amato, and she served directly...

the two iffiest offices, ones that could go either way, are the race for New York Attorney General and New York State Comptroller. The attorney general contest is between Manhattan resident and Democratic state Sen. Eric Schneiderman and Staten Island District Attorney Dan Donovan. snip although the chances of Gillibrand’s opponent, Joe DioGuardi, catching fire are still a possibility, albeit a long shot. snip The race for Attorney General is a lot more problematic for the Democrats. First of all, Schneiderman, never known as Mr. Personality among his colleagues in the state Senate, is not thought to be a favorite...
  • Joe DioGuardi’s New York Uprising (Don't count him out in his bid to unseat Gillibrand)

Joseph DioGuardi gesticulates vivaciously — a habit perhaps inherited, if the stereotype is to be believed, from his Italian-born father. He speaks with an accent retained from childhood in the East Bronx, with rhotacisms laid over precise and racing speech about budget and austerity. DioGuardi has risen from busboy, to accountant, to congressman (NY-20 from 1984 to 1988), and, now, to Senate candidate. His favorite gimmick is to take out his old congressional voting card and do this spiel: “This is really a credit card, because every time you put it in, you raise the national debt. It’s the most...

ALBANY -- Republican Joe DioGuardi slammed rival Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand yesterday for voting twice to raise the federal debt ceiling, and vowed to shut down the government before taking a similar vote. "You are not going to get from me what you got from Kirsten Gillibrand," the accountant and former congressman told a group of business leaders and Republicans. "She gave the Obama administration an open checkbook." [Snip] Gillibrand has twice joined her fellow Democrats to raise the legal limit on the debt the federal government can carry.

I was surprised to see that Kara DioGuardi from American Idol's father was a former New York congressman who has been fighting to keep the national debt down for several decades. Anyone see him having a shot a Senate in New York? He's a CPA with a great track record--and a book from 1992 "Unaccountable Congress: It Doesn't Add Up" that really foresaw a lot of this fiscal mess. Anybody know much about him? He's still president and founder of a non profit, Truth in Government, I think. He will be speaking soon at the big Conservative annual dinner in...

I agree with former Congressman of New York Joseph DioGuardi said following the victory of Senator elect Scott Brown, “We’ve got a systemic failure of oversight which contributed to the financial crisis and current controversy over bailouts and the country should be grateful to the people who took back their Senate seat.” Would you agree the Scott Brown victory was a wake up call to President Obama to finally toughen up to Wall Street, make federal budgeting top priority, realize he's more popular than Coakley, and take back his comments to the senators pick up? Check out the news release...
