This is a link to the Able Danger Blog's review of the book. • Ann Coulter banned in New Jersey?

Best-sellers were once made by being banned in Boston. Now a pair of New Jersey state legislators are trying to ban a book already atop the best-sellers list. Once again, the book stirring all the controversy is Ann Coulter's "Godless: The Church of Liberalism." Two Democrats – Assemblywomen Joan Quigley and Linda Stender – are pushing to ban "Godless" from all bookstores in their state because of Coulter's biting criticism of four 9-11 widows known as "the Jersey Girls," who demanded investigations into President Bush's role in allowing the terrorist attacks. No one in New Jersey should buy this book...
  • Bankteller with a hickie

I went to a well known bank in the area today to do some business. The bankteller, maybe 20, had a huge hickie on her neck. I found it repulsive as she went out of her way to make it obvious. A mature thing would have been to wear a scarf, but then again I think she may have been about 12 based on that measuring scale. I contemplated on whether or not to talk to the manager. Don't know what was worse her attitude or the hickie?

BEIJING (Reuters) - American Rebecca Soni broke the world record to win the women's 200 meters breaststroke final on Friday to collect her first gold medal of the Beijing Olympics. Soni surged to victory in two minutes 20.22 seconds, wiping 0.32 off the previous world record set by Australia's Leisel Jones at the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Jones, who won the 100 earlier in the week, faded on the last lap to finish second in 2:22.05 while Norway's Sara Nordenstam was third in 2:23.02. Soni became just the second American female swimmer to win gold in Beijing after Natalie Coughlin won...
  • No 9/11 kin will witness Gitmo arraignments, thanks to DoD and a NY Daily News 'reporter'

Within his report ‘9/11 kin barred from Gitmo trial’ yesterday for the New York Daily News, James Gordon Meek questioned Debra Burlingame’s objectivity. Yet is creating a controversy, reporting the outcome, labeling some but not others within that report, and filing it as news ethical journalism? When the architects of the 9/11 attacks are charged this week at Guantanamo Bay for killing nearly 3,000 Americans, the victims' families won't be allowed to witness it. The Defense Department outraged 9/11 families by belatedly disclosing that just one victim's relative - GOP loyalist [all emphasis here added mine] Debra Burlingame, whose brother...

    Today Show/NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein
by Mark Finkelstein September 7, 2006 - 12:23 A few months back, 9/11 widow Kristin Breitweiser suggested that former CIA Director George Tenet and named FBI agents are as deserving of the death penalty as Zacarias Moussaoui. You might think that with opinions like that, Breitweiser has made her liberal bones. Apparently not enough to suit Ann Curry's taste. On this morning's Today show, Curry found Breitweiser's comments on Ann Coulter insufficently bitter, and tried to lure her into even a more avid condemnation of the conservative commentator. Curry began with this bouquet: "From your grief, you have drawn strength....
  • Bernie Goldberg Slams Ann Coulter - "Ann should be on his 100 or 110 people who screw up America"

Longtime CBS News reporter Bernard Goldberg had a lot to say about Ann Coulter – some of it negative – during a radio interview promoting his book. Goldberg’s "100 People Who Are Screwing Up America (and Al Franken is #37)” was published last year, and an updated version – upping the list to "110 People” – recently came out in paperback. The book takes to task Michael Moore, Ted Kennedy, David Duke, Michael Jackson, Jimmy Carter and an array of others on the American scene. Goldberg now says he made a "mistake” in not including Coulter as one of the...

Virtually all the chattering-class attention has targeted Coulter's comments disparaging the "Jersey Girls" or (this past weekend) a charge that she plagiarized a few sentences. On the latter point, Coulter can defend herself. But a quick scan of one of the sentences in question shows wording that is easily different enough to pass the smell test on that issue. The "Jersey Girls" are four widows whose husbands died on 9/11. Coulter excoriates them for using their family tragedies to promote a left-wing political agenda. Whether one would have used exactly the same words to make the author's point (who can...

Coulter did not go far enough Ah, those now famous 28 words. Forget about the once famous "16 words." Ann Coulter has uttered 28 words (not based upon false intelligence) that are all the rage: ''These broads are millionaires, lionized on TV and in articles about them, reveling in their status as celebrities. I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much.'' Of course, she was talking about the Dixie Chicks. No, that would be false intelligence. Ann was talking about none other than the Jersey Girls! As you may recall, the Jersey Girls are a group of September...
  • ANOTHER ANN COULTER THREAD

I know, I know - another Ann Coulter thread. I wanted to start a fresh thread because of a question. I am two thirds through her latest book, Godless, and I began wondering about something. Why is she being attacked and skewered for her comments on the Jersey Girls? Other than her views on evolution - which, as far as I know, are only commented upon on Free Republic - the mass media does not comment on anything else she has written in the book. She has commented on Howard Dean, Cindy Sheehan, John Edwards, his wife, John Kerry, Ted...

Jersey Girl Kristen Breitweiser is releasing a biographical political screed late this summer conveniently timed to cash in on the fifth anniversary of the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 (which her husband was killed in) and to influence the November elections. The book, "Wake-Up Call: The Political Education of a 9/11 Widow," is being published September 6, 2006 by Warner Books with a reported first printing of 150,000 copies. The publisher's blurb on Amazon.com gives this description of the book : "Sweets, I'm OK. I'm OK. Don't worry. It's not my building," said Kristen Breitweiser's husband on the phone from his...

When leftists start caterwauling about civility, it reminds me of when my kids were young. When my daughter Anna was 5 and my son, Jonathan was 4, World War III broke out in our household at least once a day. Anna’s modus operandi, as she explained it to her grandfather, was: "I hit Jonathan. He hits me. Then I tell Mommy." In essence, that’s the leftists’ civility scam: They hit us. We hit back. Then their media lap dogs begin howling about incivility and yapping about the decline of gentility in the political debate (which, if I’m not mistaken, started...

Ann Coulter certainly stirred up a hornet’s nest when she accused the so-called Jersey Girls of wallowing in their widowhood. Tim Rutten, the resident media critic for the L.A. Times, accused Coulter of being cruel and tasteless. He was so outraged by what she had written and said about the quartet that, in a frenzy of self-righteousness, he then went on to describe her as a gaunt 45-year-old, an “ingénue with fangs,” and summed up her appeal as pornographic, likening it to “black leather and Nazi paraphernalia” which “have a kind of iconic status in the sadomasochistic subcultures inclined toward...

It's embarrassing that two New Jersey Democrats, Assemblywoman Joan Quigley of Jersey City and Assemblywoman Linda Stender of Scotch Plains, are calling on bookstores in the state not to sell Ann Coulter's new book. One wonders whether Quigley and Stender have heard of Amazon.com or are aware that Coulter's book, Godless: The Church of Liberalism, is on its way to becoming a best-seller just like her previous diatribes against liberalism? Coulter may be motivated by "her desire to sell books," as our astute assemblywomen surmised, but she is hardly the personification of evil. Defending Coulter, who also has come under...

In thinking about Coulters' new book, I am reminded of the grand review by Whittaker Chambers of "Atlas Shrugged" by the conservative atheist Ayn Rand. He begins: "Since a great many of us dislike much that Miss Rand dislikes, quite as heartily as she does, many incline to take her at her word. It is the more persuasive, in some quarters, because the author deals wholly in the blackest blacks and the whitest whites. In this fiction everything, everybody, is either all good or all bad, without any of those intermediate shades which, in life, complicate reality and perplex the...

The left-leaning Newsweek magazine lied about what she wrote in her book, an indignant Ann Coulter said during an appearance on Thursday night's Hannity & Colmes show on Fox News Channel. "I'm sitting in a Fox studio in L.A.," Coulter said. "I don't know why there's a copy of Newsweek here rather than Human Events. Here is Newsweek describing Ann Coulter as saying '9/11 widows enjoyed their [husbands'] deaths.' That is simply a lie . . . That is a lie. That's a compliment. It's not to be confused with a loose cannon. (Cindy Sheehan is a loose cannon.) She's pretty, tall, sexy, brilliant (that's Coulter, not Sheehan) and certainly sassy. Disclosure: We've met on several occasions and, darn it, I like her. We're both conservative, but not in an identical sense.
