BELTON, Mo. — As Missouri lawmakers return to Jefferson City Wednesday, one of many issues they are expected to consider is raising the state’s speed limit. Along Interstate 49 here, the speed limit is 70 miles an hour, but that could jump up to 75 if this proposal becomes law. A southwest Missouri lawmaker wants drivers in the Show-Me State to be able to go faster on rural highways. Rep. Mike Kelley from Lamar, further south on I-49, wants to raise the speed limit to 75 miles an hour on 4-lane highways away from the cities. Currently Missouri’s speed limit...

Private pilots who may want to fly near Chicago on the weekend of May 19-20 have been warned they could be shot down, and a Red Cross memo suggests there could be mass evacuations of the city in the event of riots by left-leaning activists protesting the NATO summit. Less than a day’s drive away, however, near Jefferson City, Mo., at the same time there will be an event for Americans who also are worried about the nation. But instead of protests and riots, participants will focus on how to build up America, repair it and stabilize it for future...

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - A professional wrestler claimed Friday that the state is intruding on her privacy by requiring her to provide proof from her doctor that she is not pregnant within a week of every match. Julie Utley also said pregnancy testing is too expensive for many women to continue participating in the sport. She estimated it would cost her at least $60 a month for tests. The rule took effect in November and is part of state requirements for licensing contact sports such as professional boxing, wrestling and martial arts. Utley, 19, said she has not wrestled since...

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri Supreme Court won’t consider a challenge to a provision of the state’s concealed gun law. Without comment, the state’s highest court let stand a lower court's ruling that there's no absolute right to bear arms in Missouri. The case focuses on whether people seeking permits to carry concealed guns must answer questions from county sheriffs about their criminal history or military service. Missouri's concealed-carry law lets sheriffs deny permits for various reasons -- including a discharge from the military "under dishonorable conditions." The sheriff of St. Charles County filed an appeal after a circuit...

Senator Kerry, as your tour over "Flyover Country" continues, it must be really hard on your stomachs. You and the missus are used to the finest cuisine and now have to look like you are eating like the locals. All the little people are so impressed! I know you must have been embarassed by the revelation that you ate on the bus at stop and threw the local food in the garbage. We all saw that you really didn't eat at Wendy's. I mean, everyone thought you were eating at Wendy's, but then you had some take out at a...
