In the midst of all his fury hurled at Sarah Palin by Politico founding editor John F. Harris in his column on Monday, he made quite an interesting revelation. Namely that thanks to the discovery process made by Palin in her lawsuit against the New York Times, we now have documentation about the utter moral cowardice of the publisher of that periodical, A.G. Sulzberger.Harris makes no secret of his complete dislike of Palin in "The Cynical Spectacle of Sarah Palin’s Lawsuit Against the New York Times." Absolutely no surprise there. Also no surprise that Harris thinks that the former (fired)...

The former editorial page editor of the New York Times is making the same claim about his intent in publishing an outrageous falsehood about Sarah Palin that he made in 2017. If the jury credits his argument in 2022, victims of journalistic malpractice may find it nearly impossible to win libel cases against media organizations. Former Times editor James Bennet testified this week in the jury trial of Ms. Palin’s defamation case against his former newspaper. Back in 2017, the Times published an editorial containing fake news about the former Alaska governor and GOP vice-presidential candidate. In the editorial, which...

Unable to convince his deputies to clamp down on disorder while in power, Donald Trump now leaves a city occupied to cheers in honor of his successor (and his successor's army).WASHINGTON — For six months, President Donald Trump pushed for a harsher crackdown on the riots raging across the United States, facing constant pushback from officials worried that would further inflame the chaos and lead to needless death. As Joe Biden takes the oath of office and Trump exits Washington, the outgoing president’s dream is finally realized — ironically, too late to change a thing.Over the past week, somewhere between...

U.S. Judge Jed S. Rakoff, a Bill Clinton appointee, allowed Sarah Palin’s defamation lawsuit against the New York Times to proceed, saying that a jury should decide whether editorial page editor James Bennet acted with “actual malice” in writing that Palin was responsible for “political incitement” that led to the mass shooting in Tuscon, Arizona, in January 2011. The Times published the editorial in the wake of a June 2017 mass shooting by a deranged leftist who targeted Republican members of Congress at their baseball practice. The Tuscon shooter was mentally disturbed; accusations against Palin had long since been disproved....

Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) rejected The New York Times’ claim his op-ed calling for the use of troops to quell some of the unrest in America’s cities as not meeting the standards of the newspaper. During an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” the Arkansas Republican Senator compared his work to other items published on the pages of the Times. “I will say, my op-ed didn’t meet the Times’ standards,” he said. “It far exceeded their standards, which is usually sophomoric, left-wing drivel. But here’s what happened behind the scenes. Last weekend, we saw rioting, rooting, really anarchy,...

New York Times editorial page director James Bennet resigned Sunday, the newspaper announced, following the newspaper’s decision to publish a controversial op-ed by Republican Sen. Tom Cotton (Ark.) that sparked backlash. The Times said Bennet’s resignation is effective immediately. He had been in the position since May 2016. Jim Dao, the deputy editorial page editor, is stepping off the masthead and will be reassigned to the newsroom, the Times said. Katie Kingsbury, who joined the Times in 2017, will be named acting Editorial Page Editor through the November election. “The journalism of Times Opinion has never mattered more than in...

The New York Times announced Sunday that Editorial Page Editor James Bennet is resigning -- amid reports of anger inside the company over the publication of an op-ed from Sen. Tom Cotton about the George Floyd unrest last week. Bennet had apologized late last week after previously defending the piece, titled, "Send in the Troops." Cotton, R-Ark., called for the government to deploy troops to help quell riots and looting that emerged amid the anger over Floyd's death in Minneapolis police custody last month. "The journalism of Times Opinion has never mattered more than in this time of crisis at...

Within hours of publishing a column by a U.S. senator conveying an opinion held by a majority of Americans, The New York Times’ staff erupted in an outrage, calling their employer’s decision to print a differing opinion, “surreal and horrifying.” The editorial page editor James Bennet at first defended running counter viewpoints by those in policy positions, but by Thursday, the New York Times fully relented, issuing an apology and blaming a “rushed editorial process” for its decision to run the op-ed at all. The op-ed, written by Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., called on the federal government to “send in...
