The GOP's long-promised change is an offshoot of a tax overhaul last year that cut corporate rates and winnowed down the number of individual tax brackets. On Friday, the Treasury Department and IRS unveiled the new postcard, which will replace the current forms 1040, 1040A and 1040 EZ.

In documents recently released under the Freedom of Information Act, Judicial Watch found that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) was actively colluding with the IRS to harm the TEA Party groups that he mendaciously courted in his successful 2010 reelection bid. These groups are believed to have played a significant role in Republicans capturing a majority in Congress. A Democratic majority in both Houses of Congress enabled the passage of the Affordable Care Act (which came to be known as Obamacare) on a straight party line vote in late 2009. The loss of this majority constituted a serious impediment to the...

John McCain’s former staff director and chief counsel on the Senate Homeland Security Permanent Subcommittee, Henry Kerner, urged top IRS officials, including then-director of exempt organizations Lois Lerner, to “audit so many that it becomes financially ruinous.” Kerner was appointed by President Trump as Special Counsel for the United States Office of Special Counsel. The explosive exchange was contained in notes taken by IRS employees at an...

It has long been suspected; the footprints and fingerprints were always present; McCain repeatedly denied it…. now the evidence surfaces. For those who remember the issues when the IRS, White House and DOJ organized the post 2010 election “shellacking” targeting of Tea Party groups, the latest discovery from Judicial watch is confirmation of a long-held opinion.  John McCain was instrumental in supporting the weaponization of the IRS to target tea party groups.WASHINGTON DC – […]  In the full notes of an April 30, 2013, meeting, McCain’s high-ranking staffer [Henry] Kerner recommends harassing non-profit groups until they are unable to continue operating....

How's this for sneaky? Sen. John McCain, not too long after seeking conservative and Republican votes in his failed 2008 bid for the presidency, went right after those same conservative voters without telling them, by egging on the IRS to ruin them. It's the sort of political back-stabbing that defies belief, taking an active role in destroying the Tea Party, which was an authentic grassroots movement of local groups calling for smaller government. But sure enough, Judicial Watch has found McCain's central role right there in the documents: Judicial Watch today released newly obtained internal IRS documents, including material revealing...

As a former attorney for the chief counsel of the I.R.S. who specialized in nonprofit organizations, I believe Mr. Trump is also criminally liable for his actions. If I were still at the I.R.S., based on the lawsuit, I would make a criminal referral, on charges of tax evasion or false statements on a tax return, or both. On the tax evasion charge, the government must demonstrate that the defendant willfully failed to pay a tax he owed and acted to disguise or attempted to disguise that evasion. For a false statement charge, the government must show the defendant willingly...

Have found that months after I filed i.r.s. tax return, that a dependent filed and started to claim themselves as a dependent. Had 5 kids and this is the last one. Both of us seem to be stuck in limbo. I.R.S. is dragging their asses, no irs notice dates promised are met, no refunds issued at all. I would file a 1040-X amended return but I am under the impression that a return has to be accepted and processed in order to amend it. Can those freepers that had this happen, comment.

Former President Barack Obama on Wednesday seemingly joked to an audience at a Las Vegas tech conference that his eight-year presidency was scandal-free. "I didn't have scandals, which seems like it shouldn't be something you brag about," Obama said, according to Newsweek. The 44th president was reportedly referencing the scandal-plagued Trump administration, saying that "if you look at the history of the modern presidency, coming out of the modern presidency without anybody going to jail is really good. It's a big deal."

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service is preparing to crack down on states that try to circumvent a new limit on the state and local tax deduction, saying on Wednesday that it will not allow local governments to find creative ways to help individuals fully deduct those taxes. The I.R.S. warning comes in response to states, like New York, that have looked for ways to blunt the impact of a new $10,000 cap on the state and local tax deduction, known as SALT. The cap, which was included in last year’s $1.5 trillion Republican tax overhaul, hit predominantly Democratic, high-tax...

The Internal Revenue Service hasn’t accurately cataloged all the components of its highest value hardware and software systems and doesn’t have a clear count of who has privileged access to those systems, according to an audit released Monday. The IRS also likely isn’t patching software vulnerabilities on its highest value assets within the 30-day timeframe required for federal agencies, according to the audit from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration. Because the agency doesn’t maintain historical data about patching, however, it’s difficult to say for certain how long vulnerabilities are going unpatched, the audit states.

"Embattled N.Y. AG let Clinton Foundation skip naming foreign donors Enabled possible hiding of special favors while Hillary was secretary of state" Disgraced New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman looked the other way and allowed the Clinton Foundation to flout a rule requiring the organization to list foreign donors in its charitable filings, according to reports. This move makes it nearly impossible to determine if the Clinton Foundation received special favors while Hillary Clinton served as secretary of state, the New York Post reported. Findings from a Scripps News investigation revealed the Clinton Foundation and the Clinton Health Access...

Acting on President Trump’s demand that his cabinet secretaries gut Obama-era federal regulations, the Treasury Department on Tuesday said it has cut over 300 standing and proposed rules with a focus on the Internal Revenue Service. In a new 20-page report, Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin highlighted the elimination of 305 regulations, including those proposed, and the wiping away of 298 IRS “deadwood” rules. “Reducing unnecessary burdens will lead to increased economic growth, greater job creation, and a fundamentally stronger economy for our country,” said Mnuchin. “Regulatory reform is a key component of the president’s plan to make American businesses more...

The House voted Wednesday to implement a series of bipartisan changes to the IRS that were billed as customer service improvements. The votes had been planned for weeks to go along with Tax Day, but were given added timeliness with the IRS’ website failure Tuesday just as taxpayers faced the filing deadline. Two bills passed in Wednesday’s votes. One, the 21st Century IRS Act, would overhaul parts of the agency’s cybersecurity and information technology practices. It passed with only three "no" votes, all Republicans. Another, the Taxpayer First Act, which passed unanimously, would set new rules on the agency's interactions...

Americans are getting an extra day to file their taxes after key elements of the IRS website crashed on deadline day. The IRS said that individuals or businesses with a filing or payment due Tuesday now have until midnight Wednesday to complete the task. Earlier Tuesday, Americans who had waited until the final day to file online got an unwelcome surprise: The agency’s website for making payments and gaining access to other key services was down due to what Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin later described as a “high-volume technical issue.” The website was back online late Tuesday. “This is the...
