President Donald Trump, more than any modern president, freely expresses his racist views — whether it is calling Mexican immigrants rapists, asserting that immigrants “infest” America, saying neo-Nazis include some “very fine people,” preferring Norwegian immigrants to those from “sh--hole” countries or associating immigrants with crime in public and in private. (In May, The Post reported on an episode in April 2017: “Trump reminded them the crowds loved his rhetoric on immigrants along the campaign trail. Acting as if he were at a rally, he recited a few made-up Hispanic names and described potential crimes they could have committed, such...

Mexico’s incoming president on Tuesday thanked U.S. President Donald Trump for his “respectful attitude” toward the next Mexican administration and held out hope for joint progress on tackling illegal migration ahead of a major meeting this week. Mexican President-elect Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador is due to meet on Friday with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and others for talks in Mexico City. The meeting will be the first major face-to-face discussions between Lopez Obrador and his team and U.S. officials since the leftist won a landslide victory on...

Bishop Edward Weisenburger (right) would like to canonically punish those who advocate the prosecution of illegal immigrants. On June 13, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, archbishop of Galveston and Houston and head of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, read aloud a statement at the USCCB spring meeting in which he denounced the immigration policies of United States President Donald Trump and Attorney General of the United States Jeff Sessions. Cardinal DiNardo was particularly exercised by Trump’s and Sessions’ policy of refusing asylum to those fleeing gang violence, and of prosecuting everyone who illegally enters the United States, a practice which...

U.S. District Judge Dana Sabraw on Monday said he was "very encouraged" by the Trump administration's "real progress" in reuniting illegal-immigrant families separated at the border. More than 50 immigrant children under age 5 will be reunited with their parents by Tuesday's court-ordered deadline for action by Trump administration, and the families will then be released into the U.S., a government attorney said Monday. That's only about half of the 100 or so toddlers covered by the order, but Sabraw said the news so far has been encouraging. "There's no question that the parties are meeting and conferring," Sabraw said...

Gianfranco Formenton, a priest in Umbria, has long preached against racism. Gianfranco Formenton, a priest in Italy’s central Umbria region who has long preached against racism and in support of migrants, knows what it is like to clash with Matteo Salvini, the recently installed interior minister and leader of the far-right League party. In response to the party’s xenophobic rhetoric in 2015 – the year more than a million migrants arrived in Europe and 150,000 landed on Italy’s southern shores – he put a sign up on the door of his church in San Martino di Trignano, a hamlet of...

At CityLab, Gabriel Metcalf wrote that he specifically moved to San Francisco for its progressive policies but that those policies have caused a housing shortage of epic proportions. “San Francisco progressives chose to stick with their familiar stance of opposing new development, positioning themselves as defenders of the city’s physical character,” he wrote. And: “Over the years, these anti-development sentiments were translated into restrictive zoning, the most cumbersome planning and building approval process in the country, and all kinds of laws and rules that make it uniquely difficult, time-consuming, and expensive to add housing in San Francisco.” Likewise, New York’s...

And their only serious leader may be Michael Bloomberg, who will be 78 in 2020. It appears to have been the Supreme Court of the United States, the most unremitting and inscrutable center of government, that has been a deus ex machina in clarifying issues for the American voters in the run-up to the midterm elections. It is almost a mnemonic feat now to recall 17 months ago when Senator Chuck Schumer was weeping on the Senate floor, in emulation, he said, of the Statue of Liberty, over President Trump’s proposed curtailment of the rights of entry into America from...

The late Charles Krauthammer was right about the rules of good writing. The use of the first-person pronoun in opinion writing is a cardinal sin. To get a sense of how bad someone's writing is count the number of times he or she deploys the Imperial "I" on the page. Krauthammer considered a single "I" in a piece to be a failure. Use "I" when the passive-form alternative is too clumsy. Or, when the writer herself has earned the right to, because of her relevance to the story. (The story itself, naturally, should have relevance.) The second is my excuse...

Since the implementation of President Trump’s zero-tolerance policy, the number of people apprehended and denied admission at the southwest border declined by 18 percent in June compared to the previous month. In June, 8,451 immigrants who came to the border at ports of entry were found to be inadmissible compared to 11,567 in May, the Department for Homeland Security (DHS) reported. For the entire year of 2017, a total of 111,275 people were not admitted at the border, a decline from 150,825 in 2016 and still less than 114,486 in 2015. Included in the inadmissible metrics are people seeking asylum...

Wise Welcome Justice for Americans and welcome to well-meaning foreigners who come as blessing. Not open borders and amnesty, but “wise welcome” that we find in Scripture, including the embrace of Ruth and Rahab, and Nehemiah leading a nation in the rebuilding of its walls and God-honoring culture.

Contrary to reports of mass confusion at the Southwest Border, where the Department of Health and Human Services is under a court order to reunite children with the parents who brought them here illegally, "there is no confusion whatsoever," HHS Secretary Alex Azar told Fox News Thursday morning. Azar said his department is working against a court-imposed deadline to reunite the 11,800 children with the people who are claiming to be their parents. The process includes DNA testing. "Every child is accounted for," Azar said. "We know every child, where they are. We know the record -- the last time...

Personally, I’ve thrown up my hands in despair at the debased state of the GOP. I don’t want to be identified with the party of the child-snatchers. But I respect principled conservatives who are willing to stay and fight to reclaim a once-great party that freed the slaves and helped to win the Cold War. What I can’t respect are head-in-the-sand conservatives who continue to support the GOP by pretending that nothing has changed. They act, these political ostriches, as if this were still the party of Ronald Reagan and John McCain rather than of Steve Bannon and Stephen Miller...

BOWLING GREEN, OH (WTOL) - A nationwide manhunt is underway for three men who allegedly raped and kidnapped two teenagers in Bowling Green. MILAN, Italy, July 2, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) — A Catholic bishop has stated that the mass migration from Africa and Asia into Europe in recent years is part of a plan to change the Christian identity of Europe. Bishop Athanasius Schneider of Kazakhstan, 57, told an interviewer from Milan’s Il Giornale last week that “the phenomenon of so-called “immigration” represents an orchestrated and long-prepared plan by international powers to radically change the Christian and national identities of the European peoples.” The Church, he said, was being exploited. “These powers use the Church's enormous moral potential and her structures to more effectively...

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has cooled his friendship with Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson now that the liberal Democrat has called for President Bush?s impeachment. In an interview Thursday with The Associated Press, Romney sought to minimize his relationship with Anderson, once a prominent example of bipartisan camaraderie. The two worked closely together when Romney ran the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. ?He was a mayor that worked well with me during the Olympics, and I supported his work as a mayor,? said Romney, who spoke before an event in heavily Republican western Iowa, where he...

You want to take things from people? You want to take away their freedom? First you must disarm them. Then you may have your way with them One of the billions of pictured thought-captions floating around the web, asks this question: “Why is it that liberals demand gun control after every shooting - but never border control after every rape and murder by illegals?!” Those sorts of ‘memes’, as they’re called, perhaps rile people up. But, in the big picture, in the sea of words out there, that no one seems to slow down and sort through, it is a...
