The president of the Kentucky Baptist Convention's children's services agency has recommended that the organization amend its hiring practices to ban discrimination against homosexuals, according to a PowerPoint presentation posted on the agency's website. "I would rather homosexuals see the love of God through us than be denied employment by us," Bill Smithwick, president of Sunrise Children's Services, said in an Aug. 16 PowerPoint presentation to the agency's trustees. "I would rather see the ministry continue to help kids and share the Gospel than close." Trustees were scheduled to vote on the proposal during their Nov. 8 meeting. One trustee,...

Penn State has announced that it is paying $59.7 million to 26 young men to settle claims of child sexual abuse at the hands of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. The university said it had concluded negotiations that have lasted about a year. The school said 23 deals are fully signed and three are agreements in principle. The school faces six other claims, and the university says it believes some do not have merit while others may produce settlements.

In recent weeks I’ve been asked to officiate at two weddings. That’s not all that uncommon. As a local pastor who has served in Kirkwood for over 10 years, I am privileged to help bless the marriage of several couples each year. What is uncommon, for this Baptist minister, is that these recent requests are same-sex couples. snip I do this knowing it will make some people quite uncomfortable. It will make others angry. Very possibly I will lose some friends over this decision. But I genuinely believe that Christians generally, and Baptists specifically, should support the marriage of LGBT...

Try getting an answer out of Bill Ayers. I dare you. Last week, I emailed the former Weather Underground bomber to quibble with an account in his latest book, “Public Enemy.” The chapter in question detailed the dinner Ayers hosted for me, Tucker Carlson, Matt Labash and Andrew Breitbart, among others, in January 2012. Ayers had donated the dinner for a local Chicago-area charity auction and Tucker pulled a fast one and purchased it. It was a bizarre evening, but my quibble was with how Ayers said I defined conservatism. I don’t recall defining it the way he said I...

Tesco Sorry Over 'Gay Best Friend' Doll  The retailer's website said the inflatable doll would "tell you if your bum looks big" and was a suitable gift for young children.     Tesco has withdrawn an inflatable figure labelled "gay best friend" and apologised for selling it. It comes a day after the retailer was forced to remove a Halloween costume called "Psycho Ward" from its shelves after it sparked widespread criticism. On its website Tesco said "The Inflatable g*y Best Friend" was suitable for children aged three to four and was an "amusing gift". "If SEX in the City and Will...

  • Can Evangelical Chaplains Serve God and Country?—The Crisis Arrives

Can chaplains committed to historic biblical Christianity serve in the United States military? That question, though inconceivable to our nation’s founders, is now front and center. And the answer to that question will answer another, even more important question: Can religious liberty survive under America’s new moral order? The repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, coupled with the Supreme Court’s ruling that the Defense of Marriage Act is unconstitutional, set the stage for this crisis. The full normalization of same-sex relationships within the U.S. military is part of the unprecedented moral revolution that is now reshaping American...

Obama’s love of TV is in keeping with childhood. By his own admission, Obama watched an enormous amount of television while growing up with his TV-loving grandfather in Hawaii. According to Obama’s memoir, he watched TV – cartoons, reruns, then sitcoms – pretty much from the moment he came home until the moment he went to bed at night. His grandfather was a big fan of Johnny Carson, and even after Obama went off to Occidental College, he continued in his grandfather’s footsteps. He would often get together with friends to watch Johnny Carson’s opening monologue on The Tonight Show....

Absolute equality is absolute despotism. This statement is becoming truer every moment in which the Sodomite agenda is incessantly advancing over the moral infrastructures, and they are not doing so without destroying lives. Look at the decree that was just passed in San Antonio, TX, which now prohibits all those in political office from being bias toward homosexuals. Homosexuality is not a right, and sodomite marriage is not even recognized in the state of Texas, yet the reprobates are not stopping in their endeavorment to make everyone accept them. Now let me make one thing clear, this bill is not...

Over the Labor Day weekend the owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, a bakery in Oregon, decided to close the shop as a result of all the threats, vicious emails and phone calls they have received after refusing to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple. Aaron and Melissa Klein said their business has suffered after the media firestorm earlier this year when they declined to provide a cake for a lesbian ceremony because it would have violated their Christian beliefs. Emails and phone calls were received by the Kleins saying Aaron should be shot, that he should be...

Earlier this month, there has been some international indignation and furor over Russia's recent "anti-gay law": The law, which parliament passed in June, bans "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations" and imposes fines on those holding gay pride rallies. It has attracted international condemnation and cast a shadow over the World Athletics Championships in Moscow, with questions raised over whether it will apply to athletes and spectators at next year's Winter Olympics in the Russian resort of Sochi. The International Olympic Committee is seeking clarification from Russia and there have already been some calls for a boycott of the Games. Mutko...
