At least nine people were shot Monday night when gunfire erupted near a popular Florida beach packed with Memorial Day revelers, authorities said. The shooting was sparked when two groups got into an altercation, police said during a press conference. One person of interest was arrested, Hollywood Police spokesperson Deanna Bettineschi said during the news briefing. Another suspect is still on the run.

Multiple suspected Anaheim gang members face drug charges after being arrested by local and federal officials during a large sweep last week, and nine were still being sought Monday. The Wednesday morning arrests wrapped up a 2 1/2-year investigation into two Anaheim street gangs, said Sgt. Daron Wyatt of the Anaheim Police Department. Federal indictments were returned on five suspects: Delia Partida, 38; Antonio Partida, 32; Augustina Ortuno, 52; Juan Casillas, 30; and Uriel Castaneda, 37, all of Anaheim, on suspicion of distribution of methamphetamine. Defense attorneys representing six Baltimore police officers charged in the death of Freddie Gray filed a motion Friday to have the case dismissed, or for the city’s top prosecutor to be recused from the case and replaced by a special prosecutor, citing alleged conflict of interest. The attorneys argue in the documents that the officers were victims of an 'overzealous prosecution' by State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby, who they claim has personal and political motivations in the case. Among the alleged conflicts of interest cited, the motion includes Mosby's marriage to the city councilman who represents the district where Gray died.

WEST PALM BEACH— Police are investigating three shooting deaths, two of which occurred at the same apartment complex within 12 hours of each other. Around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, a 25-year-old man was found, shot in the face, at 1017 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd. Police identified him as Edward Burkes, who was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he died. Police are treating Burkes' death as a homicide.
