A 55-gallon drum of uranium was found Thursday in the area of a dismantled airplane at Opa-locka Executive Airport, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. The area has been evacuated while a hazmat team from Miami International Airport assess the situation as well as a possible spill. Teams are “monitoring levels of radiation,” fire-rescue spokesman Arnold Piedrahita said Thursday afternoon on Twitter. So far, “minimum” levels have been detected, he said.

The acting inspector general of the Department of Homeland Security flouted nepotism rules by employing his wife, and took multiple jaunts, at taxpayers’ expense, to Florida, according to documents obtained by The Post. The documents show at least four trips that Charles Edwards — the acting inspector general assigned to root out fraud in the agency’s $40 billion budget — took from DC to Miami and Fort Lauderdale, where he was earning a computer and information-sciences degree at Nova Southeastern University, in 2011 and 2012. Travel receipts submitted by Edwards list the university’s name next to the rate charged by...

Who will replace Janet Napolitano at Homeland Security? With the filibuster in peril this week, getting a consensus candidate may not matter much for a Senate confirmation, but that doesn’t mean one won’t arise. Already, NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly has endorsements from two key members of Congress — one Democrat, one Republican:CLICK ABOVE LINK FOR THE VIDEO Police Commissioner Ray Kelly’s experience with fighting terrorism has been cited as the reason why two lawmakers want him to take over as secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.U.S. Sen. The surprise announcement that DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano will be leaving the Obama administration to head up the University of California means that she may have less opportunity to wreak constitutional and economic havoc. DHS' Janet Napolitano Leaves Legacy of Corruption, Lies, Lawsuits, and Waste The New American 12 July 2013 Many were surprised at Janet Napolitano's announcement that she will leave her position as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) at the end of August to become president of the University of California. A new billboard in Canton, Ga., says South Carolina welcomes illegal aliens. A brand-new Georgia billboard proclaiming South Carolina’s alleged affinity for illegal aliens is raising eyebrows this week. The sign, posted in Canton, Ga., declares: “South Carolina welcomes the undocumented. Sen. Lindsey Graham says his state has a labor shortage and wants more immigrants. For job tips, call his office at (864) 646-4090. Located in Pendleton, S.C. Only 2 hours from Atlanta!” Sen. If Harry Reid gets his way, President Obama won’t have to worry about appointing a new Homeland Security secretary that is acceptable to Senate Republicans.Napolitano’s resignation from the department on Friday comes as the Democratic majority leader is threatening to invoke “the nuclear option” and change the Senate’s rules to allow administration appointees to sail through confirmation without threat of Republican filibustering.Under that scenario, Napolitano’s replacement would likely be the first major appointment made in the post-“nuclear option” era where Republicans would have no ability to stop the confirmation of a nominee they find unacceptable. “The selection of her replacement could...

On Wednesday, Sanford Chief of Police Cecil Smith told Breitbart News exclusively that there is “nothing out there” suggesting civil unrest will take place in the city following the George Zimmerman verdict. He did state, however, that the Police Department had been coordinating with federal authorities, including the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice. More specifically, Smith stated that the Sanford PD had been coordinating with Community Relations Service regional director Thomas Battles at the DOJ. Battles is currently under fire for his involvement in the CRS’ work with regard to “marches, demonstrations, and rallies” related to...

"Significant advances in three-dimensional (3D) printing capabilities, availability of free digital 3D printer files for firearms components, and difficulty regulating file sharing may present public safety risks from unqualified gun seekers who obtain or manufacture 3D printed guns," warns the bulletin compiled by the Joint Regional Intelligence Center. The bulletin refers specifically to Defense Distributed, a nonprofit company started by a University of Texas law student, which has successfully made and fired a 3D gun whose only metal parts are the bullets and a small firing pin. Some 100,000 plans for a gun called "The Liberator" were downloaded in just...

The US is no closer to the end of its “war on terror” than before, even after having beheaded al-Qaeda in the 2011 operation that wiped out the terror group’s leader Osama Bin Laden. Now a senior Pentagon official has predicted another 20 years of the mission against al-Qaeda. Speaking to the Senate Armed Services early Thursday, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations Michael Sheehan said the Pentagon wasn’t yet planning to wrap up its “war on terror.” When asked how long it might take the US to beat down terrorists, the official said: “At least 10 to 20...

Republicans in the Senate and House are expected to introduce a joint bill Friday that would limit the amount of ammunition that federal agencies are allowed to buy and stockpile over the next six months, the Washington Free Beacon reports. The bill, titled the Ammunition Management for More Accountability or “AMMO” Act, is being proposed after several lawmakers have voiced concerns about some federal agencies, like the Department of Homeland Security, seemingly stockpiling large quantities of ammo. “DHS, for instance, has placed two-years worth of ammunition, or nearly 247 million rounds, in its inventory,” the Free Beacon notes. In a...

While it was unclear initially if the home searches were voluntary, it is now crystal clear that they were absolutely NOT voluntary. Police were filmed ripping people from their homes at gunpoint, marching the residents out with their hands raised in submission, and then storming the homes to perform their illegal searches.

One of the Chechen terrorists who carried out the Boston Marathon bombings should have been deported years ago after a criminal conviction, as called for by U.S. immigration law. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the 26-year-old killed in a wild shootout with police, was a legal U.S. resident who nevertheless should have been removed from the country after a 2009 domestic violence conviction, according to a Judicial Watch source. That means the Obama administration’s DHS division missed an opportunity to deport Tsarnaev, but did not abide by Federal immigration law and let him stay. Tsarnaev was given this special treatment, despite not having...
