President Obama delivered a tough-love talk to his biggest boosters Wednesday, telling Democratic donors gathered in Los Angeles that they need to step it up before November if he’s going to get much done in his last two years in office. "You thought, 'OK, we elect Barack and that's it,’” Obama told a crowd big-dollar donors gathered in the lush Hancock Park backyard of TV producer Shonda Rhimes. “I have got to have a Congress that has some sense and is willing to work and is willing to compromise and is focused on the American people. And we don’t have...

(VIDEO-AT-LINK) HBO supernatural drama takes aim at conservatives in bloody takedown. HBO's “True Blood” took another stab at conservatives on Sunday's episode when it left a bloody mess of an event held in Ted Cruz's honor. It was exactly what the doctor ordered for an ailing Eric (Alexander Skarsgard), who has been infected with the dangerous virus that's killing vampires. He was all ready to meet the true death until his progeny Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) informed him that Sarah Newlin, part of the group manufacturing the virus, was still alive and on the run. That was enough for...

It's unclear where...

Lest we forget, it was 55 years ago ( July 18, 1969 ) that Ted Kennedy crawled and slimed his way to land and Armstrong landed on the moon ( July 20th). Progressives should not be allowed to forget the anniversary of the death of Mary Jo Kopechne and the real war on women. A blogger named Brian Cates on Twitchy has given a riveting accounting of the hour by hour actions of the infamous and duplicitous Ted Kennedy. At the end of the blog a poster calling himself the DivingPetrel imagined how an Oliver Stone Hollywood would re-enact the...

According to Nikki Finke the weekend box office is not only refusing to recover, it has slipped even further behind with a stunning 29% drop over last year. Despite all the industry happy talk around "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," the sequel opened well below where other under-performers have this summer and has no dropped 53% from last weekend. "Dawn" will do fine, no question, but within the context of what this summer needs, it is nothing close to a savior, nor were this weekend's three wide releases. "Planes: Fire & Rescue," "Sex Tape," and "Purge: Anarchy" offered...

Former FBI informant in the Weather Underground, Larry Grathwohl, is one of the stars of Joel Gilbert’s new film, “There’s No Place Like Utopia,” which is premiering in Denver on Friday and then goes nationwide. Friday, July 18, also happens to be “Blog About Larry Day,” to remember his service to the nation and his untimely death last year. His friend Tina Trent says, “we are asking that bloggers, radio folks, podcasters, and others in the media use July 18th to tell the truth about violent leftist radicals like Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn and their ilk.” She adds, “Their...

I have to claim responsibility for the newest parody that’s now starring as president of the United States on TVs everywhere. If ever there were a Steven Colbert character assigned to play a faux president, Obama would get the nod. You see: he’s been nominated for an Emmy now. In a comedy, playing himself, in a tragedy. Seriously. His own incompetence has led to an Emmy nomination. And it’s my fault. When Obama visited Cooperstown’s Baseball Hall of Fame in May, ostensibly to promote tourism, I suggested with mock fawning that they should induct him into the HOF as the...

Marvel is making big changes this year. In a special announcement made on the Colbert Report this evening, the comics giant will this fall have Steve Rogers pass his star-spangled shield on to Sam Wilson, making Wilson (otherwise known as the Falcon) the first black man to take on the official role of Captain America....Falcon, one of Cap's oldest allies, has been rumored for weeks as the most likely candidate to carry on Steve's legacy. After all, Wilson was there to save the former super soldier's life before the end of issue 21. Created in 1969, he was Marvel's first...

To cleanse the palate. He’s got long blonde hair, wears an elaborate costume, and is forever swinging around a large phallic totem. If it was a guitar, I’d have assumed he’s in a hair-metal band and left it at that. But a hammer? The man’s overcompensating. He’s got a secret. A big one, as it turns out. Who’s up for a 37-issue series in which Thor quietly contemplates how much harder life is as a woman? This October, Marvel Comics evolves once again in one of the most shocking and exciting changes ever to shake one of the “big three”...

---SNIP-- Before California enacted legislation in 2009 to create its first film and TV production incentive, the state had been asleep at the switch while Canada and other countries, as well as more than 40 states, offered lucrative incentives to lure away production jobs. Many argued the incentive would not be worth the investment, but the program has proved to be a phenomenal success in creating jobs

Pro-Israel demonstrators in Los Angeles were violently targeted by several men waving Palestinian flags on Sunday afternoon, prompting a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officer at the scene to fire his weapon at the attackers as they assaulted participants, according to DHS officials and eyewitness accounts from private security officials at the rally. The incident took place Sunday afternoon while a group of pro-Israel supporters were peacefully rallying in support of the Jewish state as it defends itself from attacks by the terror group Hamas. The peaceful pro-Israel rally, organized by the Israel-American Council (IAC), took a violent turn at...

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The boyfriend of one of the stars from the popular show “Glee” was found dead in a Center City Philadelphia hotel room. Fred Thompson's political career dates back to Watergate. Since, he has been a U.S. Senator and presidential candidate. He now does triple duty in talk radio, as a columnist and as a respected character actor; a profession he's enjoyed success in since 1987. In a Hollywood Reporter interview about his upcoming film "Persecuted," which opens in 600 theatres this Friday, Thompson admits things are tough for Republicans in Hollywood -- even for a veteran like himself: Is it tough to be a Republican actor in Hollywood? It's a tough business for everybody, but if you happen to run across a...

He's been Gollum and King Kong, and plays Caesar in this month's ''Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.'' Over the past decade, Andy Serkis has quietly become Hollywood's most bankable invisible actor. Next, he'll transform again, for ''Star Wars: Episode VII.'' It's the eyes. In the flesh, Andy Serkis doesn't especially resemble his character from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (rated PG-13, out July 11). Walking fully upright and dressed in a black shirt and jeans with holes in both front pockets, he's looking pretty Homo sapiens—not at all like Caesar, the chimpanzee star of the rebooted...

“You know of course that we could never really be friends… Men and women can’t be friends, because the sex part always gets in the way.” That’s from the 1989 romantic comedy, “When Harry Met Sally.” But you already knew that. It’s a famous movie and a famous line, and in the 25 years since Nora Ephron’s classic swept the box office, people still love this hilarious and heartwarming tale of true friendship melting into true love.
