  • Ryan and McConnell agree: No long delay in passing an ObamaCare replacement

Lickety-split. I don’t know if the repeal-and-delay talk was just a trial balloon, or if it was never really under serious consideration. But there was never much enthusiasm - from the conservative base or from anyone else - for the idea of repealing ObamaCare quickly but then taking an extended period of time to come up with a replacement. And apparently both Speaker Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have gotten the message.

Blue on blue. Tell me again, who was the Illinois state legislator who once said single-payer (also known as socialized medicine) was the ultimate goal of any health care reform? I can’t quite place the name. It was someone. An awful lot of Democrats believed from the start that ObamaCare was a clusterfark, somewhat by design, and that when the financial models collapsed it would open the door for them to say, “Hey, we tried to give the private insurance market a role, but that clearly doesn’t work so the government is taking over.”

Pharmaceutical entrepreneur Martin Shkreli was banned from Twitter on Sunday for alleged “harassment” after he asked a Teen Vogue writer on a date. The “harassment” began when Shkreli sent Lauren Duca, known for her piece about President-elect Donald Trump “gaslighting America” and defending the man who harassed Ivanka Trump on a plane, a private message inviting her to the inauguration as his date. Duca responded by publicly posting his message and writing, “I would rather eat my own organs.”

Obama took something of a victory that had been achieved in Iraq and Afghanistan and replaced it defeat born by the premature withdrawal of American troops for no other reason than a crass political desire to be done with the whole affair, and in the former's case his facilitated the rise of Islamic State, possibly the most heinous entity of the twenty first century. He stood by and did nothing as the Arab Spring destabilized the entire Middle East, and in those cases where he did act such as Libya his interventions served only to make matters worse. Iran is...
  • To GOP: Repeal Obamacare and DON’T replace

The catastrophe of ObamaCare was and is complete Plain and simple, the PPACA (Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) must be repealed utterly, no replacement or residual “good idea” left to haunt us. This is stated emphatically for the following reasons and I pray that Congress, particularly the republicans, are listening to the people and not to polls purposely skewed by the misleading, malpracticing media. It doesn’t take someone who has worked in healthcare to understand the overwhelming disaster that has been ObamaCare although I’m one who has, so it behooves us to go back to the beginning… why people...
  • Priebus: Trump doesn't want to 'meddle with Medicare or Social Security'

Incoming White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus on Sunday suggested President-elect Donald Trump stands by his campaign vow not to cut Medicare. "I don't think President-elect Trump wants to meddle with Medicare or Social Security," Priebus said on CBS's "Face The Nation." "He made a promise in the campaign that that was something that he didn't want to do." The president-elect does plan to grow the economy and help "shore up Medicare and Social Security for future generations," Priebus said. "And if we can get 3 to 5, 6 percent growth, we'll do that," he said. "And we'll explode...

A move by Democrats to reestablish a rule that would require a minimum of 60 votes for any legislation to pass the Senate was repulsed by a 52-48 straight party line vote. Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, recent vice-presidential running mate of Hillary Clinton, sponsored the 60 vote requirement and called the GOP's stance against it "unfair. For decades it had been the tradition in the Senate to permit the minority party to block legislation that couldn't obtain a super majority. Now just because former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev) eliminated this tradition when Democrats held the majority in the...

Outgoing President Obama is daring Congressional Republicans and President-Elect Trump to have a replacement healthcare plan in place. This is both a specious argument and an Alinsky tactic for two reasons: (1) Obama wants the replacement plan to contain the structural foundations and costs of Obamacare, so when it continues to fail, Dems in 2018 Congressional races will run against "Trumpcare". (2) A replacement plan itself acknowledges government control. Now more than ever, the Republicans have a chance to completely turn over healthcare to the free market and the states. All Congressional Republicans have to do is just repeal Obamacare....

Because only the worst health care laws get named after the presidents who sign them I’ve actually considered whether Trump would want the ObamaCare replacement saddled with this name. I know I sure as hell wouldn’t if it was me. The whole point of a market-oriented health care reform is that the government doesn’t run health care, so it makes no sense to tell the nation that its trips to the doctor are courtesy of a politician. Then again, Trump does like to see his name on things.

My family and I would really appreciate your thoughts and prayers for healing over the next few weeks. On the 19th of January I'm scheduled to have brain surgery. At end of October I suffered a minor stroke. It didn't feel minor at the time but fortunately I recovered quickly and almost completely. Within a few weeks I was back at work, and after a month of therapy my speech and movement had resolved to a level where only those who knew me very well pre-stroke had any idea something had happened. In the MRI taken to diagnose the stroke,...

Unless something changes, Republican leaders have no intention of repealing Obamacare If Republicans in the brand new 115th Congress want to enrage supporters and destroy whatever grassroots goodwill remains they are off to an excellent start. Daniel Horowitz has the gory details at Conservative Review:

A man calling himself “One Hand Jason” cut his right arm off because he felt like he was really disabled. His hand was more or less a “birth defect,” according to body modification website ModBlog. Jason trained in first aid for months and eventually severed his arm with a power tool. He also allowed people to think it was an accident for years. If you think this is wrong in any way, you’re a bigot — at least if you follow trans-logic to its natural conclusions.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul is warning Republicans not to repeal Obamacare without voting in a replacement for the health care law on the same day. “I think it's imperative that Republicans do a replacement simultaneous to repeal,” Paul said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” cautioning that disaster in the form of insurance company bankruptcies and a “massive” bailout could follow a move to repeal the law without a new one in its place. “If they don't, Obamacare continues to unravel.”

On New Year’s Eve, Texas Federal Judge Reed O’Connor issued “…a nationwide, preliminary injunction to block a new Obamacare mandate requiring taxpayers to fund transgender reassignment surgeries and abortions.” When the Affordable Care Act was written, the word “Sex” was used to describe an individual’s actual sex—that is, whether they were biologically a male or a female. The left, however, found this rather too restrictive given today’s grey area lottery of self-designated genetic wonders and sexual deviates. Representing Texas as one of the plaintiffs in the case against Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton...

Washington, DC-based school administrator Akela Stanfield is quite familiar with that distrust. She spent a year being stereotyped by and receiving few answers from a string of doctors while trying to get to the bottom of the discomfort she'd been experiencing. "Being a black female who is overweight automatically puts you in a diabetic category," she says. "They kept telling me I was 'pre-diabetic,' and I took way too many glucose tests. They were hunting for diabetes. I used to hate it—they would focus on it so much when I simply did not have diabetes." These stressful dealings with white...

One more time: If you like your plan, you can keep your plan. A senior adviser to President-elect Donald Trump said Tuesday that after Obamacare is repealed and replaced with different health-care law no one who has health insurance would lose their coverage. "That is correct. We don't want anyone who currently has insurance to not have insurance," the adviser, Kellyanne Conway, said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." How that will be avoided, however, is a very big question. Trump and his fellow Republicans, who control both houses of Congress, have said they intend to quickly repeal the Affordable Care Act...

Barack Obama did the opposite of past presidents within his first 100 days by ignoring Israel to make his first Middle Eastern visit to address Palestinians in 2009. Instead of visiting Israel, Barack Obama made his first stop in Cairo to address Israel/Palestine peace by vowing an unprecedented allegiance to the Arab world. Obama opened his address with a traditional Muslim greeting, “assalamu alaykum”, to a thunderous applause. The new president then went on to explain the great debt owed to Islam by civilization and the horrors of colonialism. From that moment on, American-Israeli relations deteriorated until the very last...
