Outgoing President Obama is daring Congressional Republicans and President-Elect Trump to have a replacement healthcare plan in place.
This is both a specious argument and an Alinsky tactic for two reasons:
(1) Obama wants the replacement plan to contain the structural foundations and costs of Obamacare, so when it continues to fail, Dems in 2018 Congressional races will run against "Trumpcare".
(2) A replacement plan itself acknowledges government control. Now more than ever, the Republicans have a chance to completely turn over healthcare to the free market and the states.
All Congressional Republicans have to do is just repeal Obamacare. Don't worry about replacing it - I strongly support those who lost their healthcare coverage from Obamacare, or who were on Obamacare exchanges, to do a special, one-time enrollment into a state Medicaid program funded by a block grant, until the market can work it's magic again.
So, let's say no to replacing Obamacare. Just repeal it, and the Trump administration should focus on healthcare reform next year.
You are absolutely correct and summed it up well.
Just repeal the monstrosity. Period.
replace obamacare with the free marketplace
(and if any state seriously thinks another governmental program is necessary, it may implement one if it wishes. Individual health care and personal health decisions are NOT the proper domain of the federal govt!...nor can the fed govt handle it ..as we have seen with Ocare)
-—All Congressional Republicans have to do is just repeal Obamacare. Don’t worry about replacing it -—
Nothing like committing political suicide...
The gop are used to it, Trump not so much...
Great advice that i fear won’t be heeded, at least not heeded enough.
State control created a balkanized marketplace.
The GOP has been entirely for sale on healthcare, just have the democrats.
Both are entirely sold out.
Trump however, has all along said “repeal, and replace”.
I think, and I expect him frankly, to live up to that obligation.
Millions of Americans’ healthcare is on the line.
Sure I believe Obamacare was a very clumsy change to our healthcare system. But it was broken. Millions were not covered.
They are now.
Trump you said you will repeal, AND REPLACE Obamacare.
That is what we elected you for.
Repeal, and REPLACE.
Do not be diverted by the people saying “just eliminate it” about Obamacare.
There are quite a few saying that.
But there were a large number of Americans who voted for you, who would have ordinarily voted for Democrats.
Take heed. You won a majority of supporters in this great nation.
You did not win that majority, by being in the pocket of the people who are in favor of our medical system.
It badly needs to be fixed.
That is part of your mandate Mr. President.
I have supported you since before you even announced your candidacy. But I for one, and not in favor of simply repealing Obamacare.
Repeal. AND REPLACE.
Thank you.
13 more days. :D
Yes, it’s a trap. Whatever replaces it will have to look somewhat like it, and a large number of people that voted for Trump will be disappointed. The Pandora’s Box of preexisting condition coverage has been opened and there’s no easy way to close it. The only way I can see to continue coverage of people that are guaranteed to cost more money than they pay in is for the government to subsidize them. The most efficient way to subsidize them is to do it directly through some sort of Medicaid like process, which eliminates the insurance companies getting a piece of the pie. This cuts one sticky hand out of the process but does little else to reduce costs.
So if you keep coverage of preexisting conditions you end up with something like Obolacare. The rat media will label it Trumpcare and start tearing it apart.
So I believe that the best course is to just repeal Obolacare and let the market work from there. Allow insurance companies to sell insurance across state lines, to eliminate the inefficiencies of having separate organizations in multiple states. Have some sort of temporary process to cushion the transition with subsidies. Then take a problem-solving approach to eliminating waste and fraud - determine true and statistically verifiable root causes and implement and verify solutions, making the metrics transparent to the public.
The trap is in the hiding of the fact that ‘Obamacare’ transferred the cost of providing health care to everyone from employers’ international customers to the American middle class.
So those employers are going to be donating lots of money to RINOs to see that their customers don’t get stuck paying those costs again. IE: keep the price of American products low.
It’s tough, keeping a large share of those costs in the free market will help. So will immigration control.
Will you force states to expand Medicaid to cover it? Under Obamacare the federal government said that they would fund the cost of expanding Medicaid. Seventeen states refused the offer. Would you require them to do it?
