  • How One State Could Hold the Key to Legal Marijuana in America

Everything's in motion for what could be a stunning victory for marijuana legalization this November. Advocates in Oregon just got legalization of recreational marijuana on the ballot in the state, which means it could join Colorado and Washington as the only states to fully legalize (and tax) the drug. But beyond Oregon, an even more important battle is brewing farther northwest. Legalization is also on the ballot in Alaska. (VIDEO-AT-LINK)What makes Alaska special? There's a certain symbolic significance to passing marijuana legalization in a Republican-controlled red state. Colorado, Washington and Oregon all went for President Barack Obama in 2012, with...
  • John Roberts vs. Obamacare: Rock, Paper, Socialism Sucks!

It’s not very often when one man, liable for the most destructive decision in a nation’s ideological history, is presented with an opportunity to eradicate his greatest transgression: empowering a socialist leviathan that became the greatest Trojan horse of excessive government in our history. The real question is, after an appeals court ruling struck down key components of the law and dealt John Roberts a temporary stay of stupidity, will he once again abandon 225 years of proven checks and balances, or will the Chief Justice inexplicably pardon Obamacare for a second time and reward those who lied about its...

A pair of federal Appeals Court rulings have sown further confusion regarding ObamaCare, even as they illuminate stark differences in ideologically-inspired interpretations of the law. First, a three-judge panel from the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 2-1 that Americans are not entitled to subsidies for their healthcare premiums if they live in a state where the federal government set up a healthcare exchange.
  • DC Circuit Creates Obamacare Uncertainty

    07/23/2014 5:11:51 AM PDT · by LeoMcNeil · 3 replies
The big news from yesterday is that the DC Court of Appeals ruled that Obamacare subsidies obtained on the Federal exchange are in violation of the law. The law states that subsidies are only available to people who buy Obamacare policies on a state exchange. Around 36 states don’t have exchanges, thus citizens in those states aren’t entitled to a subsidy according to the DC Circuit decision. This is significant because in order for employers to fall into the employer mandate an employee has to be eligible for a subsidy. In states without a state exchange, that’s no longer possible...

In a major setback for the Affordable Care Act, the D.C. Circuit just released a fractured opinion invalidating the IRS’s rule extending tax credits to federally facilitated exchanges. The case, Halbig v. Sebelius, centers on the portion of the ACA governing the calculation of tax credits. The statute specifies that tax credits are available to most people who purchase a health plan “through an Exchange established by the State under 1311.” (See my earlier posts for a more detailed recap.) About two-thirds of the states, however, declined to establish exchanges. In those states, the federal government stepped in and established...

A federal appeals court handed down a ruling this morning that could be problematic for ObamaCare. As just reported, “A judicial panel in a 2-1 ruling said such subsidies can be granted only to those people who bought insurance in an ObamaCare exchange run by an individual state or the District of Columbia—not on the federally run exchange HealthCare.gov.” You can read the entire appeal here.

Angry veterans protested President Obama’s visit to Delaware to show their disdain for how the administration has treated them. The 25 protesters — led by Martin Nicholson, a veteran Marine – lined the street and turned their backs to the president’s passing motorcade. “We feel he’s turned his back on us veterans, so we’re going to turn our backs on him as he drives by on his motorcade to show our appreciation that he does not care about us veterans,” Nicholson told BuzzPo.com. Obama was in Delaware to discuss a recently damaged bridge, a topic the protesters call a waste...

There has not been much good, or encouraging, news in America over the past months, and it is due to the perpetual assault on the people by a cabal of un-American groups led by Republicans and empowered by conservatives on the Supreme Court. To their credit, Democrats have attempted to assuage the damage imposed by the conservative Court, particularly the Hobby Lobby ruling, but Republicans dutifully protected the religious right and betrayed American women. There were plenty of Americans concerned the religious right would use the Court’s ruling as freedom to discriminate against the gay community, and within 24 hours...

Looking for a place where Obamacare doesn't exist? Try moving to the U.S. Territories, where the Obama administration just provided a pretty big waiver from the law's major coverage provisions. The Affordable Care Act's design dealt a pretty big problem to the territories. It required insurers there to comply with the law's major market reforms — guaranteed coverage, mandated benefits, limits on profits, etc. — without requiring residents to get coverage or providing subsidies to help them afford coverage. The territories — Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands — have been warning...

Dr. Elaina George, an ear, nose, throat and chest specialist from Atlanta, told Charles Payne on FOX News today that the US could be facing a health crisis as the thousands of newly illegal children enter the classrooms this fall. “There’s an example in Maryland, where parents got a letter from the school that there children had been exposed to an illegal child who had TB who was one of their classmates. So this fall it is potentially possible that these children entering the school systems could be carrying all sorts of things, diseases that are not on the radar.”...

When Ezra Klein and friends launched Vox as an "explanatory journalism" site this spring, conservative catcalls and ridicule began promptly. The project's critics have been vindicated time and again. Though the site sometimes produces solid content, it's run by hard-left ideologues who lack the capacity to present "just the facts, ma'am"-style reporting. Over the last 24 hours or so, Vox has beclowned itself on four separate occasions. First, see Mollie Hemingway's brutal take-down of co-founder Matt Yglesias' stupefyingly ignorant attack on conservatives and religious liberty. His asshattery was so acute that even a junior Vox colleague publicly rejected Yglesias', er,...

One of the classic signs of serious mental illness is “inappropriate affect.” In this context, “affect” is the emotional face we present to the world. To the extent that a narcissist’s only emotional fixed point is his own need, most of a narcissists affects are actually faked, but that doesn’t mean they’re inappropriate. The narcissist knows that it would harm his best interests if he were to giggle uncontrollably at a funeral or pick a fist fight with a patient in hospice. Normal people wouldn’t even think of doing such things (outside of the comedy universe), but a narcissist might want...

Planned Parenthood staffers are using taxpayer money to instruct underage girls in dangerous and violent sex practices — including whipping, bondage and choking, according to a new video released by the anti-abortion group Live Action Tuesday. The uncensored footage obtained by The Daily Caller shows staffers telling investigators posing as underage girls to experiment with violent sex play in response to generic questions about sex. Staffers at two clinics in Colorado explain to the investigators that a variety of painful sex acts — including biting, chaining, gagging, whipping, choking, using nipple clamps, and more — are completely safe and normal...

"Caring and Sharing" -- The Claim and the Bane They tell us that they care more than we do. Isn’t that the key, the sum total of the American Left’s argument, when you boil it down? They care. They care so much, they remind us every day how MUCH they care. More than the moderates, more than the independents. And they accuse the Right of not caring at all, of being terribly heartless in the face of illness and want and crime. And this they use to win election after election, and to force all sorts of policy changes on...

Today I conducted one of the most disturbing radio interviews of my life as host of “The Real Deal”, with a British physicist and electronic warfare expert, Barrie Trower. By the time he had finished his service in the military, Barrie had acquired a great deal of expertise in the microwave field and he extended his research to common electronic systems, including cell phones, iPods, computer games and microwave ovens. He was appalled to discover that microwave radiation is ubiquitous and extremely hazardous, especially to pregnant women and young children. The risks are so great that the use of WiFi,...

(NOTE — Update at the End of the Column) One of the things that changes you, when you become a parent, is the body of knowledge you acquire to protect your spouse and children including things like knowledge of infectious diseases in public schools. In my case that meant looking at the NY Times saying the following: “…the administration has begun to send the expected 240,000 migrants and 52,000 unaccompanied minors who have crossed the border illegally in recent months in the Rio Grande Valley to cities around the county.” And at headlines for the open border crisis like this...
