RICHMOND -- The Virginia Supreme Court has overturned the jury verdict in a wrongful death suit against the state in favor of the families of two students slain in the April 16, 2007, massacre at Virginia Tech. Julia Pryde and Erin Peterson were among 32 students and faculty members killed by student Seung-Hui Cho. Last year a Montgomery County Circuit Court jury awarded each family $4 million, an amount that was reduced to $100,000 each by a state cap on damages. <p>A middle school student in Sparks, Nev. opened fire on his classmates Monday morning, killing a math teacher, and then turned the semi-automatic handgun on himself. He also injured two 12-year-old boys, both of whom are in stable condition. The teacher, Michael Landsberry, was a veteran, and a witness told the Reno Gazette-Journal that the student shot Landsberry after he ordered him to put down the weapon.</p>

Three teenagers were charged for the murder of a homeless Hoboken man who authorities claim was the victim of a violent game called “knockout.” The boys, two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old, allegedly followed Ralph Erick Santiago, 46, on Third St. before one of the teens threw a punch at the victim’s head on Sept. 10, prosecutors said. In the wake of the mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard that left 13 dead including the shooter, Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) announced plans to introduce a bill to allow military personnel to pack heat while on military bases. Thirteen people, including a 3-year-old boy who suffered a gunshot wound to the head, were shot at a Chicago park in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Thursday night, authorities said. In an interview clip below, Giron blames the NRA for the Navy Yard shooting. Giron feels the NRA keeps trying to convince people—out of greed—that “more guns equals safety. A man was arrested this afternoon in Union Square after allegedly attacking three people. According to witness Joey Boots, the African-American suspect attacked a white man around 2:30 p.m. "He bloodied him up pretty good," Boots said. Four teens -- three 15-year-olds and a 16-year-old -- were among seven people shot across the South Side overnight, according to police. A 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy were shot as they left a basketball game around 11:30 p.m. just east of Martin Luther King Drive in the Park Manor neighborhood, police and relatives said. Police are investigating three possibly related attacks on people by teens on bikes in and around Edgewood Park.
