JACKSON, Ga. - Beauregard "Beau" Lee, Georgia's famous groundhog, has made his weather forecast. Beau emerged from his home in Jackson on Groundhog Day and did not see his shadow. That means Georgia could be in for an early spring.

GEORGIA — Georgia's own groundhog Gen. Beauregard Lee made his prediction Tuesday morning that the state will see an early spring. A Twitter account dedicated to the rodent said on Monday that Lee will not be hosting his annual celebration on Tuesday, instead electing for a private event. Lee lives in Jackson, Georgia, at Dauset Trails. His social media handler was quick to tweet out his decision early Tuesday: an early spring.

Punxsutawney Phil may be calling for an early spring, but Georgia's own groundhog had a difference of opinion Saturday morning. General Beauregard Lee saw his shadow as he emerged from his home at the Dauset Trails Nature Center, signaling that Georgia should be prepared for six more weeks of winter

Politics, step aside. The Truth-O-Meter must address a matter of Southern pride. The honor and reputation of our local groundhog General Beauregard Lee. For three decades, the South’s most esteemed weather prognosticator has lived in the stout and lumpy shadow of Punxsutawney Phil. Phil makes the rounds yearly on the morning talk shows. He’s made appearances with Oprah Winfrey and President Ronald Reagan. His agent even scored him a gig with Bill Murray in the 1993 movie "Groundhog Day." On Wednesday, PolitiFact Georgia scribes rolled our eyes as the public fawned over Phil once again during Wednesday’s annual Groundhog Day...

We have been plagued with groundhogs burrowing under our front porch slab for a couple of years. The burrowing has caused several cracks in the slab. We have tried liquid fence, mothballs, noise, electric trip wires, have a heart trap, plugging up holes with stone and cement (it just digs new ones). Sometimes we are rid of them for a little bit, then a new one comes along. This morning, I went out to pick some lettuce from my small garden and there wasn't any left. It had all been chewed off. We live in suburbia and can't exactly sit...

We have a family of ground hogs who have lived under the concrete front steps of our house, under a giant climbing rose for generations. We bought the house from Mom, and they have lived there for as long as she can remember. She is 96. We've had the front steps "mud jacked" six years ago because it was falling into the den. However, the ground hogs came back 2 years ago and started raising new families. We tried last year to get rid of them, but they came back this year. We had mom, pop, and 3 babies. The...

Did Saddam mimic Saladin? November 8th, 2004 The weird ease with which the Iraqi army and regime fell last year, combined with the stubbornness of the subsequent insurgency, has occasioned lively debate in national security circles. Here's one hypothesis: The Iraqi dictator, taking his cue from Islamic history, deliberately lured the coalition into Iraq. Realizing that his enfeebled army couldn't stand against the U.S.-led coalition in conventional terms, he feigned defeat, ordering his henchmen to arm themselves and carry on the struggle by unconventional means. A protracted war, reckoned Saddam, would wear down America's will to fight, allowing him to...
