Although same-sex marriage became legal on Oct. 9 in Nevada, some Las Vegas wedding chapels are refusing to perform the marriages.. Those places are, the American Civil Liberties Union says, breaking the law. An ACLU official on Thursday criticized what he said are “a small number” of for-profit wedding chapel owners who are refusing to perform such ceremonies because of their religious beliefs.

A 12-year Metro officer was arrested Thursday on charges linked to child pornography after a tip from Google led to a three-month investigation, Las Vegas police. Officer James Henry, 37, faces 10 counts each of possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography, Metro said. Google notified the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that someone had uploaded an image of child pornography in June, according to Henry’s arrest report. Family Court Judge William Potter responded Thursday to an allegation that he discriminated against a lesbian mother being deployed to Cuba. “Obviously I don’t have a problem with her being gay because I gave her custody,” the judge said.
