  • Silverglate: How Robert Mueller Tried To Entrap Me

    WGBH News ^ | October 17, 2017 | Harvey Silverglate
Is special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, appointed in mid-May to lead the investigation into suspected ties between Donald Trump’s campaign and various shady (aren’t they all?) Russian officials, the choirboy that he’s being touted to be, or is he more akin to a modern-day Tomas de Torquemada, the Castilian Dominican friar who was the first Grand Inquisitor in the 15th Century Spanish Inquisition? Given the rampant media partisanship since the election, one would think that Mueller’s appointment would lend credibility to the hunt for violations of law by candidate, now President Trump and his minions. But I have known...

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who has served for three decades on Capitol Hill, said she had not seen or experienced the kind of behavior that sparked the vast #MeToo campaign for victims of sexual harassment and assault. “I don't have that experience in Washington, D.C. I just don’t,” Pelosi said when asked if the nation’s Capitol had the same problem. “I have not seen that.” She said that there should be “zero tolerance” when it comes to disrespect for women and thanked those who have shared their stories.. “Your courage gives comfort to other women,” she said.

On the same day, Oct. 4, that the House Intelligence Committee subpoenaed three employees of the opposition research firm Fusion GPS to testify in the Trump dossier investigation, the committee also subpoenaed TD Bank for Fusion's bank records. Now, according to a source familiar with the situation, Fusion has asked a U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., judge to prevent the bank from complying with the subpoena. Fusion has flatly refused to provide any information on its funding to either House or Senate investigators. The two officials refused to answer all questions from the House this week, and in an...
  • Trump Tax Cuts Gain Momentum as Senator Rand Paul Goes 'All In'

U.S. Republican senator Rand Paul on Friday appeared to back the Trump administration's sweeping tax cut plan, saying he was "all in" for massive tax cuts even as the Senate passed a key budget measure without his support one day earlier. On Thursday, the Republican-controlled Senate approved the budget resolution for the 2018 fiscal year, with Paul casting the lone Republican vote against it. That approval paves the way for their tax-cut proposal that would add up to $1.5 trillion to the federal deficit over the next decade to pay for the cuts. U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday signaled...
  • Gregg Jarrett: Lynch, the Clintons and a series of fantastic coincidences

I don’t believe in coincidences. Not when it comes to crimes. Especially when they involves political corruption. No such thing as a coincidence. Doesn’t exist. Yet, we are led to believe it was merely a coincidence that Bill Clinton just happened to be on the tarmac of an Arizona airport at the same time as then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch. We are supposed to accept that their private meeting on board Lynch’s plane had nothing whatsoever to do with the criminal investigation of Hillary Clinton which the A-G was overseeing at the time. Right. They just “schmoozed” about grandkids and what-not....

As he prepared to collect a $500,000 payday in Moscow in 2010, Bill Clinton sought clearance from the State Department to meet with a key board director of the Russian nuclear energy firm Rosatom — which at the time needed the Obama administration’s approval for a controversial uranium deal, government records show. Arkady Dvorkovich, a top aide to then-Russian President Dmitri Medvedev and one of the highest-ranking government officials to serve on Rosatom’s board of supervisors, was listed on a May 14, 2010, email as one of 15 Russians the former president wanted to meet during a late June 2010...

Bill O'Reilly expressed hope Thursday the Supreme Court will ultimately decide a 40-foot "Peace Cross" honoring World War I soldiers on public land in Maryland can stand, telling Newsmax TV "there's no doubt in my mind that it would." "What makes it really disturbing is that everybody acknowledges that the World War I memorial is basically directing people, Americans and others who are visiting, to honor those who lost their lives in that conflict," O'Reilly told "Newsmax Now" host John Bachman in an interview. "That's all."

In the age of a billionaire president with no real political experience, Mark Cuban, another billionaire with no real political experience, is being asked quite a bit about a prospective presidential bid. And he's not ruling it out. During an interview on the Fox News show Objectified (airing Sunday), the Shark Tank personality and owner of the Dallas Mavericks said he's qualified to be commander in chief. “I think we’re going into a time where you need somebody who can connect to people and relate to people, and I think I qualify on each of those," Cuban told host Harvey...

The Hill newspaper and Political have articles about how Democrats want to avoid discussing their views on gun control until after the 2018 mid-term elections.  From The Hill: Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) is urging his colleagues to stay away from gun control in the budget debate despite pressure from activist groups that argue the party needs to take a stand given the string of mass shootings across the country. Schumer, focused on next year’s midterm elections, thinks it is smarter to focus on economics — specifically President Trump’s tax plan, which Democrats say is a giveaway to corporations...

First-Lady Melania Trump is following a similar path with personnel reductions saving millions.
  • There’s talk of capping 401(k) contributions at $2,400 per year

Proposals floating around Washington to cap the amount that Americans can contribute before taxes to 401(k) plans and individual retirement accounts are unsettling professionals in the retirement industry. Republicans are looking for ways to generate revenue to support broad reductions in individual tax rates. One idea is to limit the amount of pretax money households can sock away for retirement saving. Such a move would likely generate significant political blowback but it hasn’t been explicitly ruled out, stirring worry among industry lobbyists.
  • You can still use N.J. driver's license to board airplanes (for now)

    10/20/2017 11:02:28 AM PDT · by SMGFan · 13 replies
New Jersey has gotten another extension to bring its driver's licenses up to federal standards. The one-year reprieve means New Jersey residents can continue to use their driver's licenses for identification to board commercial aircraft until at least Oct. 10, 2018. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced Wednesday that New Jersey was one of 17 states to receive an extension to meet the requirements of the Real ID act. Real ID establishes minimum security standards for license issuance and production and prohibits federal agencies from accepting for certain purposes driver's licenses and identification cards from states not meeting the act's minimum standards.
  • TRUMP Needs to Dump Janet Yellen — She’s an Obama Hack Set on Sabotaging Trump Economy

    10/20/2017 10:32:25 AM PDT · by davikkm · 18 replies
During the 2016 election candidate Donald Trump repeatedly attacked Janet Yellen as an Obama lackey who kept the interest rates close to zero to help the far left president. TRUMP WAS RIGHT. Since 2000, the Federal Reserve increased the Fed Funds rate excessively under President Bush between 2004 and 2006. These excessive increases led up to the 2008 recession and may have at least partially influenced the economic disaster at that time. If the Federal Reserve was political and wanted to prevent Republican Presidents from successful economic growth, then the Fed would increase the Fed Funds rates during Republican Presidents’...

Thursday on “Bloomberg Markets,” Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said she shared the same “mission” of getting “a better majority for the president going into 2018” with the former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon. Bannon has announced publicly he was targeting some Republican senators who support Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). McDaniel said, “The great thing about the RNC is we stayed neutral and primaries for this very reason. When you have divisive primaries, and it is competitive, and tempers or emotions flare, we need to bring people together after the primary and let our purpose unite us...

As President Donald Trump and his administration face mounting questions about the incident, the FBI is working with authorities in Niger to investigate an ambush that left four U.S. soldiers dead in the country earlier this month, a law enforcement official told CNN. Investigators are providing technical assistance, helping to collect and analyze evidence related to the surprise attack, that killed Special Forces soldiers Bryan Black, Jeremiah Johnson, Dustin Wright and La David Johnson. Officials say the investigation is routine: The FBI usually looks into the killing of American citizens overseas, it often gives assistance investigating international terror investigations, and...

The American media would have you believe there is a concerted effort among Christians in America to discriminate against gay Americans. "No gays allowed," they claim small Christian business owners are saying. It is a fiction created to avoid dealing with the facts. The fact is I am unaware of any Christian business that refuses to serve gay customers, but I am aware of many gay activists targeting Christian small businesses for persecution. The latest issue is also the one where the left has most dramatically overplayed its hand. Jack Phillips, a baker in Denver, CO, has been compared to a...

Corny Capitalism: This is one campaign promise we wish President Trump would break. But alas, he just told his EPA to give up any thought of cutting back on the federal government's anti-consumer, anti-environment ethanol mandate. Sad. The story begins in 2005, when President Bush approved the Renewable Fuel Standard program as part of an energy bill, which required oil refiners to blend in predetermined amounts of "biofuels" into their gasoline, starting at 4 billion gallons in 2006. A revised version of the RFS, which Bush signed in 2007, expanding the program, requiring ethanol levels to climb steadily to 36...
