Another driver who happened upon the scene said he witnessed several people on the bridge and one person jump into the lake to save the driver whose vehicle had gone over the side. According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation, the southbound lanes were closed Saturday (May 31) shortly after 3 p.m. due to the accident. One of the favorite things liberals like to say about the conservative philosophy on welfare is that our attitude is basically one of "you're on your own."I would love for liberals to explain how this is any different, if not worse.

Surveillance video reveals the heroic actions of a Good Samaritan who came to the aid of a young mother and newborn infant being harassed by a menacing stranger on a commuter train in Philadelphia, Pa. “She moves from her seat and he follows her, he then swats at the baby,” SEPTA Police Chief Thomas Nestel told WTXF-TV. “It looks as if he’s trying to get control of that child.” That’s when evangelical minister and fellow passenger Tameka Bates stepped up to escort the woman and her week-old baby girl away, while at the same time physically blocking the man’s advances....

Passersby likely assumed it was just a homeless person, so they ignored the young girl lying on the snowy sidewalk. That’s what seasoned Street Help/Unit 7 volunteer Brandt Huber believes after saving the life of a missing 13-year-old girl. He found her Thursday morning lying barely conscious in plain sight on a busy street. “It’s shocking to know that some people are so caught up in what they’re doing that they can’t stop and help somebody in need,” said Huber.

A friend of mine saw a man whose car was stuck in a snow bank, stopped and offered to help push him out. He accepted. A few other people stopped and joined in. Someone pushed on the spoiler of the car and it snapped off. The driver was furious and demanded compensation, which has not been forthcoming as of yet. My friend believes the driver told the person to push on the spoiler, but of course he disputes that now (he would testify to that effect if necessary). Are Good Samaritans who are trying to help responsible for damages? Should...

James Brady, the formerly homeless man who earned national praise for turning in $850 he found on the street in Hackensack, learned the hard way this week that no good deed goes unpunished. Brady was denied General Assistance and Medicaid benefits by the Hackensack Human Services Department through Dec. 31 because he failed to report new income he received. The income, according to the agency, was the cash he found on Main Street last spring and that police returned to him in October after no one claimed it. The good deed turned Brady, who was homeless at the time he...

ANTELOPE, Calif. (KCRA) —What would you do if you found thousands of dollars in cash at a Walmart parking lot? It happened to Paul Williams. He was leaving work last Thursday at a Walmart in Antelope when he stumbled upon a wallet in a shopping cart. Inside the wallet was $4,000 in cash, a $1,000 check and multiple credit cards. "I was surprised to see that much money and no ID, no phone number. But there was a check in there with a phone number, so at least I had something to go on," Williams told KCRA 3. He looked...

Dorothy, 77, showed him in. In the middle of the living room, Dave saw her son Steve, 50, propped up in a hospital bed. His right leg had been amputated below the knee because of diabetes. In the nearby bedroom was her husband, John, 78, who has Parkinson's disease. Recalling the moment, Dave told me that he "immediately felt and saw the life stripped out of Dorothy" because of the pressures she faced. He proceeded with his inspection of the Cothrans' bathroom. He saw an old tub unsuitable for a person with Steve's disability. He saw fixtures that made the...

George Zimmerman disappeared after his acquittal in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, as low-information news consumers ranted and rioted against his perceived “profile, stalk, and murder” act going unpunished. Martin, the narrative claimed, was “just walking home.” Yet the sequence of events, as borne out by 40 prosecution witnesses, 19 defense witnesses, two medical examiners, a use-of-force expert, and one of the nation’s foremost forensic pathologists specializing in gunshot wounds supports the story George Zimmerman told all along. Zimmerman stated he behaviorally profiled Martin for “acting like he was on drugs,” and for lurking near the windows of a...

This story would be disconcerting, nonsensical and puzzling if it took place in any but a handful of cities in this country, but when you hear that it unfolded in Washington D.C., you just think to yourself - “yeah, I get it”. Picture this in your mind. You hear a child crying out in horror and pain and you step outside to see what is going on and what you see is a boy, about 11 years old merely riding a bicycle, being attacked by 3 pitbulls. You decide not to go pick up the phone, call 911 and possibly...

Police in South Africa are searching for an elderly woman who allegedly persuades young men at a mall to help carry heavy bags from her car before kidnapping and robbing them. The woman, who works with two male accomplices, targets shoppers standing in bank queues at a mall in Johannesburg's Soweto township and has struck at least twice recently, The New Age newspaper reported. "I never suspected anything wicked about the old woman as she looked like a pensioner and had a walking stick," 18-year-old victim Kabelo Dube told the newspaper. ST. PETERSBURG — A Tampa woman saved the life of a man who had a heart attack during a triathlon Saturday morning, race officials said. Teresa McCoy, 37, was just about to finish the bike portion of the Meek and Mighty Triathlon, part of the annual St. Anthony's Triathlon events, when she saw two police officers huddled over a fellow rider along Bayshore Drive. McCoy recognized the middle-aged man as runner No. 100. The two had chatted briefly before the start of the race. McCoy, a nurse at Tampa General Hospital's cardiac lab, was No. 96. With other riders speeding...
