They've been an issue in North Texas for years. Farmers and ranchers have had their hands full with herds of feral hogs. Increasingly, they're being spotted in many less-open areas. On any golf course, there are certain things considered to be a hazard. “Sand traps. Water. Apartments,” soughed Clint Hollandsworth. The golfer from Denton has hit them all, at Timberlinks Golf Club. But lately, he and others have noticed something else. “Right up the left side of number two, it was torn up really bad,” said Hollandsworth. While the challenging course rolls through hills and woods through The Timberlinks at...

Emily Nash, an 8th grader from Massachusetts, won a golf tournament for teen boys but was denied the trophy because she is a girl. She was entered into the D3 Central Boys Golf Tournament as part of her school's (Lunenberg High School) team and shot a 75 using the same tees as the boys. She captured the top spot by 4 strokes but her score was only counted towards her team's score, not as an individual score. Richard Pearson, Assistant Executive Director of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Associations attempted to explain the matter, "We have girls play in the spring...

I regularly watch PGA golf tournaments. The President's Cup is a U.S. golf tournament organized by the PGA (Professional Golf Association) in 1994. The tournament pits a U.S. team against an international team drawn from players around the world. Each year it has an honorary chairman which is always a former or sitting U.S. President or a foreign leader (depending on which team last held the tournament cup). This year President Trump was the honorary chairman (Obama held the title twice - 2009 and 2013). This year's President's Cup tournament was won by the American team. PGA tournaments are usually...

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - On that rare occasion the national anthem is played in golf, U.S. captain Steve Stricker says his team will stand together at the Presidents Cup. Stricker said he met with his four assistant captains, and then talked it over with his 12 players on a bus ride to New York on Tuesday for some television appearances. He said there was a quick consensus. "I just wanted to know what they wanted to do and how we wanted to proceed as a team," he said. "So we were going to do what we always do, and that's...

An older golfer was chipping his ball from near a water hazard; his club fell into the water. When he cried out, the Lord appeared and asked, "Why are you crying?" The golfer replied that his club had fallen into water, and he needed the club to win the tournament to supplement his meager pension. The Lord went down into the water and reappeared with a golden club. "Is this your club?" the Lord asked. The golfer replied, "No. The Lord again went down and came up with a silver club. "Is this your club?" the Lord asked. Again, the...

It is easy for golfers to “turn a blind eye to [their] privilege,” athlete claims A professional athlete has identified an unexpected source of white privilege at our institutions of higher education: the back nine. “Golf is a perfect example of the world we live in terms of the haves and have nots,” writes Anya Alvarez at Salon. Alvarez writes of discovering “the white privilege in college sports” when she learned that less-popular sports (such as golf) are often bankrolled by a university’s football and basketball programs—“the labor,” she writes, “of African-American athletes on the football and basketball teams who...

President Donald Trump took time out of his busy schedule to greet a wedding party at his New Jersey golf club on the first day of his 17-day vacation. Trump hopped out of his golf cart to say hello and schmooze attendees of a wedding that was hosted at his National Golf Club in Bedminster on Saturday. The president sported his iconic Make America Great Again cap as he ambled over to the group and asked some of the women where the bride was. Trump was seemingly in a good mood on the first day of his 17-day golf vacation,...

New England's got a bone to pick with New Jersey, apparently. Many are coming to the defense of the Garden State after two writers from The Boston Globe penned an article criticizing President Donald Trump for breaking the tradition of spending his presidential vacation at a New England destination. Trump kicked off his first summer getaway as president Friday at his golf club estate in Bedminster, New Jersey, whereas former President Barack Obama spent his days in Martha's Vineyard. Obama is heading back there for his first time post-presidency this weekend, too. The headline of the story published Friday reads,...

At a recent community forum to discuss plans for the Obama Presidential Center, Karin Droegemueller stepped up to the microphone and introduced herself as an "angry birder." She is among a flock of birders who fear that the proposed $30 million Tiger Woods golf course and expanded driving range tied to the development of the Obama Center will ward off the millions of migratory birds that stop in Jackson Park, and displace the nearly 300 species that have helped make the park a favorite Chicago birding destination... But not all open land is equal, they say. A manicured golf course...

An elderly couple were having dinner one evening when the husband reached across the table, took his wife's hand in his and said, "Martha, soon we will be married 50 years, and there's something I have to know. In all of these 50 years, have you ever been unfaithful to me?” Martha replied, "Well Henry, I have to be honest with you. Yes, I've been unfaithful to you on three occasions during these 50 years, but always for a good reason. Henry was obviously hurt by his wife's confession, but said, "I never suspected. Can you tell me what you...
