LUNENBURG, Mass. Emily Nash has been playing golf for years.
The 16-year-old is on the Lunenburg High School boys golf team. There is no girls team.
On Tuesday night, Nash had the lowest score -- 75 --- in the Central Mass Division 3 Boys' Golf Tournament.
She was the technical winner, but wasn't awarded the first place trophy.
I wasn't aware that if I won I wouldn't get the title or the trophy, Nash said.
The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association, or MIAA, rules state, Girls playing on a fall boys team cannot be entered in the Boys Fall Individual Tournament.
That means Nash can play for the team, but not compete as an individual.
Her coach knew, but Nash wasn't fully aware until after it was all over.

“Her coach knew, but Nash wasn’t fully aware until after it was all over.”
Obviously the coach wasted her time knowing full well she wont get squat diddly once she wins.
I wonder what title IX loophole allows them to do this ? Which probably gets all whackadood by gender identification.
Dang! 75 and beat the boys. I bet a trophy will not matter because her future looks bright from my seat. Great job Emily.
Golf is one of those unique sports where strength or size makes little difference. She should be the official winner.
Calling Lizzy Warren, Calling Lizzy Warren....
This ain’t right.
Tom Watson was runner up at the Open Championship at the age of 59.

Just curious, did the boys and the girl all play from the same set of tees?
If she was hitting from the same tees that’s all that matters, give her the trophy.
She’ll be playing on some college team in a couple of years.
She gets long term bragging rights.
Heck, that’s worth more than a championship.
Do they award the trophy to the second place boy?
The boy gets a nice asterisk.
*beat by girl!
Just curious, did the boys and the girl all play from the same set of tees?
*************
My guess is yes since it was a boys tournment
Emily, you were the best player that day and nothing will ever change that.
*beat by girl!
50 years ago I was 10 and one girl was the only female contestant in a watermelon eating contest so she went against us boys, she won, I came in second and it still burns me.
Do they let boys compete in the girl’s tournaments?
Most men can outdrive women, and it's because of their strength. So yes, strength does matter.
“And for those wondering, yes, Nash did play from the same tees as the boys, which makes this situation all the more perplexing.”
