HH: Pleased to welcome now to the Hugh Hewitt Show Brigadier General David D. Phillips. He is the deputy commanding general of the CPATT, and we’re talking to him from Baghdad tonight. General, thanks for staying up late. It’s great to talk to you. DP: Hey, no problem. It’s good to talk to you, too. HH: Now you’re a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and therefore, before we get to the important and good work you’re doing over there, I’ve just got to ask did you see the draft, General? DP: I did not get to see it. I’ve been actually...

Iraqi police celebrated Saturday after approximately 600 anti-tank land mines were seized in a raid in the Baghdad suburb of Sadr City. The mines were put on display at the Iraqi Police 8th Division's headquarters. Mines have been used in numerous "Improvised Explosive Devise" attacks on Iraqi and coalition forces. Police were shown in AP Television footage celebrating the success of the raid, chanting "anyone who kills other humans must go to hell."

AN IRAQI police officer was the hero of a suicide bomb attack in a crowded market street when his brave action perhaps saved dozens of lives in the southern city of Hillah. Even so the death toll was put at 60. Mohammed Raad and his friends, Ali and Abdullah Sami, had just left a nearby gym when the first explosion ripped through the market overturning carts and blowing out shop windows. Over the chaos, Mr Raad clearly heard a police officer shout "suicide bomber". He saw the officer run towards a man who had opened his jacket to reveal a...

HH: Pleased to welcome Chief Warrant Officer Chris to the program. Chris has completed three tours in Iraq. Thank you for your service, Chris. What’s on your mind? Chris. Thank you, sir. Well, I wanted to comment on your last, and a number of other callers. His first point, to keep the soldiers in the Green Zone, and your counter, keep them on other bases, not an option. As soldiers, we know that it’s not a safe job. If we wanted a safe job, we’d do a checkout at a grocery store or some similar job. We know it’s a...

BAGHDAD — Iraqi and Coalition forces this week began witnessing the positive results of their efforts to secure Baghdad and improve quality of life here. Thanks to documents recovered in Abu Musab 'al-Zarqawi's bombed out Headquarters, 104 terrorists have been killed and hundreds more taken prisoner. Dozens of weapons caches have been captured. But of almost equal importance is the insight we gained into 'al-Qaeda's state in Iraq. The 21st century's Ho Chi Minh despaired of the state of his terror organization. He was writing that America was winning the war and he wasn't replacing his combat losses. Do you remember how Liberal "Geniuses" went on and on about how we were "creating more terrorists"? Yeah right. Zarqawi complained about how he wasn't getting any...

Residents across Orange County - some with family members serving in the military, others who just want to show their appreciation for the sacrifices men and women in the service have made - will celebrate U.S. Armed Forces Service Day today. WHAT'S NEW A billboard at Goldenwest Street and Westminster Boulevard in Westminster salutes Scott Montoya, an Orange County sheriff's deputy, U.S. Marine Corps sergeant and Navy Cross recipient. The billboard is part of the Marines' Hometown Hero campaign. Montoya carried five Marines to safety in Baghdad in 2003, earning the Navy Cross two years later. It's the second-highest honor...

"After I got home from Afghanistan last year," Price recalled, "I made a commitment to return to entertain the troops overseas. … I couldn't pass up the chance to go with Charlie Daniels. "The people now serving in Iraq face death on a daily basis," Price says, "but if you think morale is low, guess again. "My job was to try to cheer the soldiers up. But in most cases, they didn't need it. … It was an amazing experience. I went to Iraq looking to raise morale. But in the end, it was the soldiers who had done that...

Media Virtually Mute on Charlie Daniel's Baghdad Visit It amazes me. When this jerkoff "Flea" from the Red Hot Chili Peppers stands up and bashes President Bush, it seems to make it to a lot of the major news organizations such as the Associated Press and others. Neil Young, who I admire as a great musician and singer/songwriter, a guy who has given us rock and roll lovers so much great stuff, did indeed disappoint me with his latest anti-Bush tirade in his cd "Living with War" - and it also got a lot of internet-media attention. Again, Neil is a great artist, but...

Abu Salah heard the screeching tires and gunfire outside his home in central Baghdad... He rushed from his house to see his neighbors - Shiite neighbors - on their roofs, in their windows, in their yards, firing at the attackers. In a trembling voice, he explained that at that moment he felt life change. He realized that his neighbors weren't going to stand by and let the bad guys win. "I prefer now to die among my friends and neighbors rather than leave my home," he said. "I felt thrilled to see them fighting, all my neighbors standing next to...

BAGHDAD , Iraq – Coalition forces killed 12 terrorists during a raid April 25 in Yusifiyah at a safe house associated with foreign terrorists. Multiple intelligence sources led the troops to the specific structure located approximately 8 kilometers N/NE of the location where the U.S. Apache helicopter crashed April 1. Upon arrival the troops took direct fire and immediately engaged the threat with small arms fire as well as rotary wing aircraft machine gun fire. The troops initially killed five terrorists outside of the safe house, and then called for an air strike to neutralize the persistent direct fire coming...

GRAND PRAIRIE – Sgt. Chris Hockman didn't hear the 18 first-graders chanting his name minutes before he arrived in their room at Moore Elementary School on Monday. But he has been feeling their love for five months. The students have been writing to Iraq since November, when their teacher, Claudia Flores, "adopted" Sgt. Hockman through the nonprofit group Operation AC. He has become so close to the students, he decided to spend part of his two-week leave meeting them. Germany's leading role in arming Iraq "Expurgated portions of Iraq's December 7 report to the UN Security Council show that German firms made up the bulk of suppliers for Iraq's weapons of mass destruction programs..." "In the summer of 1994, the BND (German Intelligence) conducted a major study to estimate the magnitude of the - as at that time - still undeclared and concealed Iraqi WMD arsenal, relying on sales records in its possession of post-Gulf War German, Austrian, and Swiss exports of technologies, sub-systems and strategic materials to Iraq. It concluded that these exports pointed to several specific weapons...

Bad news about Iraq is not hard to come by in current media coverage. Terrorist attacks on Iraqi citizens and U.S.troops are recorded day by day. Mistreatment of Iraqi prisoners by Iraqi security forces leaps to the headlines. Calls for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's resignation are gathering steam among Democrats on Capitol Hill, with Congress set to debate the issue next week.     When it comes to any good news out of Iraq, the liberal media are negligent or simply silent. And if there is new information corroborating the reasons the United States went to war against Saddam Hussein in...

SAND HILL TRAINING AREA, FORT BENNING, Ga. -- The Army drill sergeant rebuked a group of recruits who had fired their rifles too hastily in a mock ambush. "You know we've got civilians on the battlefield," said 1st Sgt. Dennis Williams. "Just because your buddy fires, doesn't mean you fire." You've got to be aware of exactly what you're shooting at, Williams told the soldiers. Be aware of what you're not shooting at, too; don't focus on the first target that pops up and forget your flank. "Everybody wants to kill that same guy, but those guys over there," he...
