Microsoft has stated repeatedly said it’s committed to boosting diversity. Now the company has strengthened that commitment by pledging it will seek minority candidates who could one day take the place of CEO Satya Nadella. “The board is committed to actively seeking highly qualified women and individuals from minority groups to include in the pool of potential CEO candidates,” Microsoft said in its annual proxy statement on Monday. The board handles CEO succession planning, including identifying both internal and external candidates and coming up with plans to develop internal candidates, according to the filing.

Cody Bellinger hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the seventh inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers advanced to the World Series for the third time in four years by topping the Atlanta Braves 4-3 in Game 7 of the NL Championship Series on Sunday night. Bellinger connected an inning after Kiké Hernández became the first pinch hitter with a game-tying or go-ahead homer in a winner-take-all-game. His homer tied it at 3 and, like Bellinger’s, came on the eighth pitch of the at-bat.

  • NBA CAVES — League To Cancel Social Justice BLM Messages On Courts And Jerseys Next Year

Adam Silver sat down for an interview with Rachel Nichols on NBA Countdown earlier this week, and indicated that the social justice messaging that you see on the courts and the backs of players’ jerseys will be “left off the floor” next season. Rachel Nichols: The NBA has certainly been the most visible billion-dollar organization championing social justice and civil rights. As you noted in your press conference the other day, though, that has not been universally popular. How committed are you to being that going forward? Adam Silver: We’re completely committed to standing for social justice and racial equality and that’s...

“Good morning,” Tom said. “I’ve been thinking about what you said. Our conversation.” Tom and I had met years ago at a college camp though he likely hadn’t remembered. He was a coach from an elite college and my older child attended his sports camp. We knew a lot of the same pros and players. And now, both of our younger children were in competitions together. This particular weekend we were settling in on a beautiful crisp morning near the water, the breeze cool on the skin. Tom came over soon after I arrived, because he wanted to share something...

The Uncle Ben’s rice brand is getting a new name: Ben’s Original. Parent firm Mars Inc. unveiled the change Wednesday for the 70-year-old brand, the latest company to drop a logo criticized as a racial stereotype. Packaging with the new name will hit stores next year. “We listened to our associates and our customers and the time is right to make meaningful changes across society,” said Fiona Dawson, global president for Mars Food, multisales and global customers. “When you are making these changes, you are not going to please everyone. But it’s about doing the right thing, not the easy...

It took longer than they had hoped, but the A’s officially clinched their first AL West title since 2013 when the Houston Astros lost to the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park on Monday night. I The A’s (33-20) will head to the playoffs with a different, yet familiar feel. The expanded playoff format should benefit the A's, who haven't been able to get past the single-elimination Wild Card game. This year, they will play in the best-of-three Wild Card round at the Oakland Coliseum. If the A's are able to advance out of the Wild Card round, they will enter...

Pittsburgh Steelers lineman Maurkice Pouncey is expressing remorse over wearing a helmet tribute to a 17-year-old who was shot and killed by police ... saying he didn't know the whole story. "I want to personally clarify what transpired this past Monday night in regard to having Antwon Rose's name on the back of my helmet," Pouncey says. "I was given limited information on the situation regarding Antwon, and I was unaware of the whole story surrounding his death and what transpired during the trial following the tragedy." • Woke Capitalists Pandering To Colin Kaepernick And The ‘Social Justice’ Movement Will Never Win

Colin Kaepernick is right about one thing—the NFL’s new social justice messaging campaign is best described as “propaganda.” Kaepernick’s dissatisfaction with the league’s explicitly pro-Kaepernick efforts, however, should be a major lesson for other woke capitalists. Absolutely nothing short of dismantling the capitalist system will satisfy their detractors.Corporations can go to great lengths to mollify critics, but those critics will never be pleased because their worldview is ultimately rooted in radical anti-capitalism. Mark Cuban, for instance, should recognize that Kaepernick and the leaders of Black Lives Matter do not see him or Roger Goodell as allies, no matter how...

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — After nearly one hundred years in business, Sue Bee Honey is changing its longtime logo. The cooperative of beekeepers from across the nation is painting over the wall of its headquarters on Lewis Boulevard where an image of a Native American girl with a feather in her hair and wings has been featured for years. The president of the Sioux Honey Association says the change has been in the works and isn't linked to recent concerns by some companies about racial insensitivity. "We have moved away from that logo with any of our labels and consumer...

As of late, the name Karen has been synonymous with entitlement, bigotry and “I want to speak to a manager” energy. What better way to explore this phenomenon than with a suspense thriller appropriately titled Karen starring Taryn Manning as the titular touchstone of privilege? The Orange Is The New Black alum is set to play Karen White (a suitable name) who believes that races should stick to their “own kind”. She carries this belief into her neighborhood. So when her new Black neighbors Assata and Malik move in, she makes it her personal mission to remove them from the...

Burger King has launched a new advertising campaign in Finland featuring its eponymous mascot sharing a deep kiss with Ronald McDonald, along with the English slogan ‘Love Conquers All’. The image is front and centre on the landing page of the fast food chain’s Finnish website, with various outlets with a focus on advertising showing physical posters at locations such as public bus stops as well. The campaign appears to be in aid of Helsinki Pride Week, which was moved to September from its usual slot due to the Chinese coronavirus pandemic. It also appears to have been influenced by...

  • Clothing store waives $20 appointment fee for black customers — but whites still have to pay up. And backlash is intense.

A clothing store in downtown Savannah, Georgia, raised some eyebrows recently when it waived a $20 appointment fee for black customers and other people of color while keeping the fee intact for white customers, WJCL-TV reported. "Most of the feedback has been that our decision to waive this refundable deposit is racist because it favors people of color, black people, and indigenous people," Blunk added the station. However, the store said that white customers who don't have $20 for an appointment can select the "don't agree" on the booking form so the booking manager can reach out and come up...

In this series, we'll look at some of the connections between race, racism and health in the United States and discuss actions toward health equity for all. What is racism? A backlash against the National Football League’s embrace of “wokeball” is beginning to develop, with over 80 percent of season ticket holders for one team opting out for the upcoming season. Green Bay Packers team president Mark Murphy made the announcement of the fan exodus over the weekend. He blamed the COVID-19 pandemic for the formerly hardcore fans rejecting the NFL product. “The fact that that high a percentage of our fans were not comfortable coming to games was a factor that weighed into my thinking,” Murphy said in an interview published Saturday by Packers.com. Green Bay is typically the NFL’s most...

Mozilla has been watching the user share of its flagship Firefox web browser shrink for a while, so it was hardly a surprise last week when the company announced it was doing some belt tightening that would result in another round of layoffs. What was a surprise were the numbers involved: The company is laying off about 250 employees, for a staff reduction of 25%, and is completely closing its operations in Taipei, Taiwan. In addition, 60 employees will be shifted to new jobs, and the company will reduce spending on such things as developer tools, internal tooling and platform...

Even Seattle cops drink beer, but you can rest assured, police officers won’t be buying anything from Mirage Beer for a long time, if ever. And neither will a whole lot of other people after the brewery put an anti-cop message on its beer.
