A new report shows that more than half a million people who had their asylum applications rejected are still living in Germany, three-quarters of whom have been in the country for more than six years. In a parliamentary inquiry from Die Linke (the Left Party), the federal government revealed that as of the end of June, there were 549,209 people living in Germany who had had their asylum application rejected, Bild reported on Thursday. About three quarters of them had been living in Germany at least six years. The largest group came from Turkey (about 77,600), followed by Kosovo (68,549)...

The right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) has garnered some of its best numbers yet in a nationwide poll. Meanwhile, the CDU and SPD have lost support. The AfD is pulling ahead of the Greens, the Left party and the Free Democratic Party (FDP), putting it on track to become the third-largest party in the country, according to a new poll released by German public broadcaster ARD. The poll shows the AfD’s support at 16 percent, its best showing yet. Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union (CDU) came in at 32 percent and the Social Democratic Party (SPD) at 22 percent. …

Following the release of figures which reveal almost four in ten children under five have foreign roots, Michael Paulwitz says the demographic change will be the death of Germany’s welfare state. The journalist and historian predicts that “hard struggles” over resources will take place when ethnic Germans are a minority, and that native Germans “will inevitably lose out”. Mr Paulwitz’ article follows the release on Friday of official figures from the Federal Statistics Office. While they show 21 per cent of the total population currently have a migrant background he notes that such people are disproportionately represented in the younger...

ARLINGTON -- During her sophomore year at Arlington High School, Lexi Vier was told she had to take a foreign language class to fulfill graduation requirements. She made a decision that now could have a significant impact on her higher education once she graduates. “I took German and fell in love with it so much,” she said. So much to the point she was elected president of the German Club. As graduation approaches, she is looking in a direction more and more Americans have considered in recent years. College in Germany. And perhaps more intriguing -- college for free. As...

Angela Merkel's party has made historic losses in elections for the Berlin state parliament after a mayor warned of a resurgence of Nazis in Germany. Many voters turned to the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), which with 13 per cent of the vote will enter the German capital's assembly for the first time, according to initial projections. Before the election, mayor Michael Müller had warned that a double-digit total for the AfD would' be seen around the world as a sign of the return of the rightwing and the Nazis in Germany'.

Impatient at the slow progress toward integrating Middle Eastern immigrants into the German economy, Chancellor Angela Merkel demanded that businesses "step up the pace of hiring. It's a disgrace that only 100 of the million refugees that have entered the country this year have jobs. The refusal of the private sector to offer enough jobs forces the government to bear the burdens of meeting the need to house and feed these people." Hans Volle, Director of Human Resources for Deutsche Tech, complained that "Chancellor Merkel's aspirations are unreasonable. Hardly any of these refugees understand our language, a majority of them...

Chancellor Angela Merkel faces new gains by the anti-migrant AfD party in Berlin state elections on Sunday, as a wave of protest voting against her welcome to refugees is expected to hit the hip, multicultural capital. […] Fresh gains in long-divided Berlin — where the AfD has polled 14 percent, a year ahead of national elections — would spell another setback for Merkel, whose open-door policy brought one million asylum-seekers to Germany last year. […] A strong showing for the AfD — which was founded, originally as a euroskeptic fringe party, just over three years ago — would hurt all...

Germany is blowing up again over migration. The Saxon town of Bautzen has, like dozens of similar places across Germany, a barracks for some of the million or two Middle Eastern migrants who have been streaming across the Mediterranean for the past year-and-a-half. People in Bautzen aren't used to foreigners, and now groups of young men have taken to congregating in city's central square, the Kornmarkt. The migrants say they come there for the free internet. This upsets the locals, 80 of whom waged a pitched battle against 20 teenage migrants on Wednesday evening. Alcohol was involved on both sides....

EUROPEAN Union (EU) bosses have blamed Angela Merkel and her open-door policy for the migrant crisis and Islamic State (ISIS) terror attacks on the continent. Donald Tusk did not hold back about Angela Merkel's migrant policy As the remaining 27 EU leaders attempted to put on a show of unity at a summit in Bratislava, Slovakia, Donald Tusk, president of the European Council hit out at the German Chancellor. He said she created chaos in the region by welcoming 1.1million Syrian migrants last year. Mr Tusk blamed “political correctness” for delays in closing Europe’s borders in 2015 which allowed more...

Hundreds of thousands of Germans took to the streets Saturday, in protest of pending trade deals with the United States and Canada. The deals in question are the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) between the U.S. and the European Union and the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) for the Canadian-EU relationship. Neither free trade agreement has been ratified yet, but popular outcry has been growing for the last few years. The demonstrations took place in seven cities throughout Germany: Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart. Organizers told CNBC that the official estimate is 320,000 demonstrators across...

Angela Merkel has declared that Germany will be accepting in more Islamic refugees. Even after the recent attacks in Germany, she still wants to bring in more Muslim terrorists. As the Nazis created the Muslim divisions of the SS, so the Germans today are working on training an elite army consisting of the Islamic refugees that they brought over with the thanks of Turkey. The Bundeswehr (or, the German Army) will be training thousands of Muslim refugees in a hundred skills that will enable them to fight, kill and take over Syria, and then sending them back to Syria where...

Bratislava (AFP) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned on Friday that the EU faces a "critical situation", as European leaders sought to plot the bloc's post-Brexit future at a summit without Britain. The 27 leaders -- minus British Prime Minister Theresa May -- gathered at Bratislava's towering castle overlooking the River Danube, determined to respond to the challenges of mass migration, security, globalisation and a stuttering economy. The aim was to thrash out a "roadmap" of reforms during talks in the Slovak capital's towering hilltop castle, and a boat trip down the Danube. Merkel said the bloc simply had to...

About 80 young men and women, mainly Germans from the right-wing scene who had been drinking beer, gathered in central Bautzen, some 50 kilometers northeast of Dresden, on Wednesday evening and chanted the town belonged to Germans, police said. Opposite them stood a group of around 20 unaccompanied minors-- meaning they are younger than 18 -- who are seeking asylum in Germany. "Police were called at around 20.50 and told that two groups were going at each other ... attacking each other verbally and by throwing bottles, wooden slats and other such things," Uwe Kilz, head of Bautzen's police force,...

It's been a bad couple of months for German Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose approval ratings have fallen sharply over her continued support of open-border immigration policies that have allowed over 1 million refugees to flow into the country since 2015. Increasingly more Germans have blamed Merkel for the surge in refugee terrorist attacks over the past couple of months and have shifted their support to more nationalist-leaning political parties. In fact, just a few weeks ago Merkel suffered a massive, embarrassing defeat in her home state to her nemesis, the anti-immigation AfD party (see "Merkel Stunned By Defeat To Anti-Immigrant...

A health insurance company has said that Germans are going to the doctor twice as much as they actually need to. But doctors disagree. “We don’t have too few doctors, but actually too much contact with doctors,” KKH CEO Ingo Kailuweit told Bild on Tuesday. “Half of all doctor visits are unnecessary.” The OECD’s Health Statistics report for this year showed that Germans went to the doctor on average more than 18 times in 2008, while another OECD report showed that Germans visited the doctor about ten times each in 2013. This made Germans one of the top ten countries...

Asylum seekers from Syria, Iraq and other war-torn states who are registered as refugees and receive social benefits in Germany do not hesitate to opt for a “vacation” in their war-ravaged countries, a German media report has discovered. The information was unveiled by the outlet Die Welt am Sonntag, citing its own investigation. The inquiry included testimonies from registered asylum seekers in Germany who are entitled to so-called HARTZ-IV social benefits. Some of them confirmed to the newspaper that they “traveled for a short period of time back to countries like Syria, Afghanistan or Lebanon.” The paper reports that the...
