The title "A Child is Born, a Son is Given" is next to the Nativity scene where Trayvon Martin takes the place of baby Jesus. The Nativity scene was made by artist John Zachary to show the effect of gun violence.  Zachary has made controversial nativity scenes in the past, but this might be the most controversial to date. The mother of Trayvon Martin will participate in a University of Utah public discussion on Jan. 16 during a weeklong celebration of Martin Luther King Jr., KTVX-TV reports. Sybrina Fulton is scheduled to speak at the university's Union Ballroom for the 30th annual Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year's theme is "Beneath the Hoodie: A Look at Racial Profiling in America." WASHINGTON The Obama administration is urging schools to abandon overly zealous discipline policies that civil rights advocates have long said lead to a school-to-prison pipeline that discriminates against minority students. The wide-ranging series of guidelines issued Wednesday in essence tells schools that they must adhere to the principle of fairness and equity in student discipline or face strong action if they don't. The American Civil Liberties Union called the recommendations "ground-breaking."

WABE and other local news organizations last month aired a story on a state senator’s rally to end Georgia’s Stand Your Ground law. The California Church has turned their nativity scene "into a piece of art that comments on our times" for the last seven years. John Zachary, the artist, told me the acquittal in July of George Zimmerman, who fatally shot the 17-year-old African-American in 2012, struck him as a worthy subject for Christmas comment. For one thing, the backdrop to the Christmas story is the slaughter by King Herod of all infants in Bethlehem, a barbarous attempt to kill the Messiah.

George Zimmerman, the man acquitted of murder in July in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, is selling an original canvas painting on eBay, according to a MyNews13.com report. According to the report, Zimmerman's brother confirmed the authenticity of the eBay listing, which is for a painting of a blue U.S. flag featuring the words "God, One Nation, with Liberty and Justice for All," in white letters.

<p>I have been observing and writing about the George Zimmerman digital lynching from very early on.   As I monitor and write about self defense stories, I caught an early version of the events in  Sanford, Florida.  The story said that a black teenager had been shot in self defense.  A picture was included.   Reading the story, I concluded that the picture was that of the black teenager that had been shot.  I was wrong.   The picture was of George Zimmerman.</p>

The director of the jazz studies program at Princeton University has written a ballad for Trayvon Martin.
