The 45-year-old man was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the business, Fiamma Inc., Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said at a press conference. Demings said the man was fired earlier this year and the incident appears to be “workplace violence.”

In the past year, Miami Beach Commissioner Kristen Rosen Gonzalez positioned herself as a liberal fighting for the rights of disadvantaged black and brown Americans. At a protest against Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez's decision to comply with President Trump's sanctuary-city ban, Rosen Gonzalez swore to protect the city's massive population of people of color, repeatedly telling Gimenez that Miami is a "city of immigrants." She also spoke out against Trump and the current Republican Party at the Miami Women's March and a February 23 protest organized by the anti-Trump group Indivisible. But in an email sent over the weekend,...

The obsession surrounding murdered Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich has ballooned into a shit storm of epic proportions. Conspiracies swirled surrounding his death, while police investigations floundered and provided no substantial leads. Some conservative pundits have suggested that Rich was the one who leaked a trove of DNC emails to Wikileaks and that he was murdered as revenge. All this attention, while the Rich family themselves were calling on everyone to calm down and be respectful.

TAMPA — When Kliphton Miller left his home in Tarpon Springs before the sun came up on May 23 for a 7:15 a.m. flight to Las Vegas, he didn't realize how quick the trip would be. Airline employees refused to let him board the plane. Miller, 44, who is legally blind, was traveling with his 18-month-old granddaughter to Las Vegas, where her parents live, after an extended visit in Florida. But Frontier Airlines employees at Tampa International Airport refused to allow him to board the plane, even though he had paid for the flight. "I frequently fly with my granddaughter...

Property developer Gil Dezer owns 29 cars. And he plans to admire some of them from his couch in a swank Miami high-rise building, with the ocean in the background. Dezer is planning to park the cars IN his apartment. Miami's 60-floor Porsche Design Tower -- the first of its kind in the world -- has glass-enclosed elevators that bring sports cars up to the plush homes of their owners. The residential skyscraper, which has 132 units and opened in March, is the latest of several super-luxury buildings dotting the Miami coastline. But what if you don't own a Porsche?...

Pennsylvania State Rep. Jamie Santora (R-163) is pushing a ban on private gun sales nearly identical to the ones Michael Bloomberg-funded Moms Demand Action pushed in Washington state, Maine, and Nevada. Santora’s bill would bar the private sales that Americans have enjoyed since the Second Amendment was ratified in 1791 and would require that every sale be processed in front of an agent of the government via a background check. This means that law-abiding Pennsylvanians selling a gun to a fellow hunter, lifelong co-worker, or childhood friend would have to seek out a Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder and the...

On Sept. 1, 1864, Union forces under Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman, victorious at Jonesborough, burned Atlanta and began the March to the Sea where Sherman's troops looted and pillaged farms and towns all along the 300-mile road to Savannah. Captured in the Confederate defeat at Jonesborough was William Martin Buchanan of Okolona, Mississippi, who was transferred by rail to the Union POW stockade at Camp Douglas, Illinois. By the standards of modernity, my great-grandfather, fighting to prevent the torching of Georgia's capital, was engaged in a criminal and immoral cause. And "Uncle Billy" Sherman was a liberator. Under President Grant,...
