Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) blasted Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Tim Scott (R-S.C.) on Friday for taking what Schumer’s office called “a cynical field trip to the border” after both Republican senators voted last week to block a bipartisan border deal that Graham was involved in negotiating. Graham is coming under fire from colleagues for voting against Ukraine funding after he insisted on adding border security provisions to an emergency defense spending package and even though he and his staff had a hand in negotiating the border language. He was supposed to lead a bipartisan delegation with Sen....

The family of Tony Day, the boy accused of killing his adoptive mother and adult sister, doesn’t understand why he’s allowed to take “field trips” while in custody. “There’s no sense in it. I mean—absolutely none,” Mike Day, the boy’s adoptive father said. In November 2012, police said Tony, then 14-years-old, shot Sue Day and stabbed Sherry Folts in the family’s Tucumcari-area home. The case has not yet gone to trial. “If the gun hadn't jammed, he'd have killed me and the little girl we were taking care of,” Mike Day said. Mike and his wife Sue were foster parents...

HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - Imagine sending your child on a class trip, then finding out she and her classmates were called the "n" word and chased through the woods. It was part of a slavery re-enactment that some parents said crossed the line. One couple said their 12-year-old daughter came home from the field trip with horror stories, and now they've filed a complaint against the school district. "I ask that you imagine these phrases being yelled at our 12-year-old child and their friends," parent Sandra Baker said at a Hartford School Board meeting. "'Bring those (n-word) to the house...

For years we’ve been told that there is no place for religion in schools. However, the more time that goes by, the more clearer it becomes that in actuality it’s really Christianity that’s been banned from schools. No more prayer, no more classes or Christian clubs, Christmas has been turned into a bad word, Jesus is only spoken as a slur, and the Bible is about as welcome as a porno magazine…probably less so. Since 1948 the modern idea of civil rights concerning Christianity has been such as one that the majority’s beliefs must be squashed in order not to...

INDEPENDENCE, Ky. -- When Derrick Carlson left for a school field trip last month, his parents never dreamed it would be the last time they would ever see him alive. "He had his group of friends and he was coming into his own," said his father, Ed Carlson. Derrick had gone on a field trip to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, with his ninth-grade class at Simon Kenton High School, and authorities said he tried to run across a road to a fast-food restaurant and was hit by a car. “Everybody’s devastated,” Carlson said. “It’s not something you...

Most mothers would love the idea of a teenage son who enjoys debating and reading, rather chasing girls and staying out late with friends. But one idealistic 16-year old has invented a new way for recalcitrant children to worry their mothers to distraction after he went to Baghdad alone in the name of cutting-edge journalism. Armed with only an Arabic phrase book and some cash, Farris Hassan can count himself lucky to be alive after a series of adventures involving desert taxis and frantic phone calls. Hassan, a 16-year-old from Florida, hopped on a flight without his parent's permission and...

Arlington Heights, IL, May. 27 (UPI) -- Hundreds of Arlington Heights, Ill., residents protested a school board decision accepting the resignations of four teachers who drank during a field trip. An angry crowd of hundreds of parents, teachers and students booed Board President Dan Petro Thursday when he accepted the South Middle School teachers' resignations for drinking on an overnight environmental field trip to Northern Illinois University's outdoor center, the Chicago Tribune reported. The teachers apparently had a 15-year tradition of taking turns being "on duty" while others went to a local bar during the annual event.
