Move over, humans. A robot-operated restaurant is heading to the Bay Area. Momentum Machines, a San Francisco-based startup, plans to launch a burger joint where fare is cooked, seasoned and wrapped by robots, Tech Insider reported. The still unnamed restaurant will utilize what Momentum Machines built in 2012 — a machine that could churn out 400 burgers in an hour. A Winter Haven man is apparently very serious about his food. So serious, in fact, that he called 911 Sunday night after a manager at the Checkers at 940 Havendale Blvd. allegedly got his food order wrong and closed the drive-thru window on him, said Jamie Brown of the Winter Haven Police Department. The fast-food chain has plans to replace some workers with the touch-screen technology in an effort to save on labor costs. By the end of the year, thousands of Wendy’s locations across the country will be offered the kiosks, while franchise-operated stores will have the option of whether to use the technology. ... Chick-fil-A is rolling out a new app that will let customers avoid waiting in line at the register. Investor’s Business Daily reported Wednesday that fast food chain Wendy’s will be expanding the use of self-service kiosks in response to the rising minimum wage: Wendy’s said that self-service ordering kiosks will be made available across its 6,000-plus restaurants in the second half of the year as minimum wage hikes and a tight labor market push up wages. A McDonald’s customer has been charged with robbery after he emptied a cup of water and filled it up with soda from a machine in a restaurant in Arkansas. Cody Morris, 18, and two pals went to a drive-thru in Springdale and and asked for large cups of water. But they then parked their car and dumped their cups before filling them up with soda. McDonald's sales were better than expected in the fourth quarter, helped by the launch of all-day breakfasts in the US. Global same-restaurant sales at the fast food giant grew 5%. McDonald's extended US breakfasts beyond 10:30am in October, saying it was customers' number one request. The company, working to turnaround its business under chief executive Steve Easterbrook, said the breakfast change helped US sales grow 5.7%.
