COS GARRY OWEN – Iraqi Army Commandos continue to train and conduct successful operations here with the Scout Platoon from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment. Over a seven-month period, the Iraqi Commandos have grown in their technical and tactical proficiency, building a more professional and independent fighting force. Using the traditional coach, teach and mentor approach, the Commandos now control much of their own training and even started teaching classes to the U.S. Army Scout Platoon. "It’s amazing how far they have come; I feel comfortable when they are teaching me a class and running missions...

I'm looking for someone who may know how to enter a mathematical formula into a MS Excel spreadsheet. I am a general contractor, the formula is for determining the radius of an arc depending on the distance between two points, with the height of the arc remaining constant. The formula is: r = (m)(m) + .25 (c) (c) over (divided by) 2(m) r is radius, m is the height of the arc, and c is the distance between the two points. I have no problem doing this all with a calculator, but it is time consuming and I have a...

Dear Freepers, I am creating an Excel workbook in which I would like to compare two different sets of calculations regarding the amount of taxes my client owes. I have each set of calculations on its own worksheet in one workbook. On the third worksheet I would like to insert links to the first two worksheets so that I do not have to reenter the data manually. How do I do this? I have scoured Microsoft Excel Help, and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to connect two worksheets in the same workbook. I'm sure there's...

Advice needed from the Brain Trust: I'm hoping some computer geeks better than I can find an answer to this Excel problem. Basically, I've used Excel to calculate grades before, and that's fine. I usually have 3 exams and I drop the lowest score. Again, that's easy. However, this marking period, I have been informed that I should give a cumulative grade for the first and second marking periods. (It is math, after all, which builds upon itself.) Now, to be fair to the students, I would like to drop their lowest two tests out of the six, not just...

Users are reacting to Google's new online spreadsheet with a big yawn. Is the company searching for a strategy?... Can there be too much of a good thing? Some Google watchers are beginning to think so. Leading technology bloggers' reactions to Google Spreadsheets, which allows users to build and share simple Excel-like spreadsheets on line, have ranged from lukewarm to hostile. Critics are assailing Google's latest offering for having several technical weaknesses. And, more significantly, they're beginning to question whether Google's long-term strategy in the arena of Web-based software applications is good for the company, for users, and for the...

I read the advertisement in the Union-Tribune for the annual Miramar Air Show Oct. 14, 15 and 16, and my jaw dropped in disbelief. I just don't understand how the Blue Angels can justify fueling and flying these jets in their annual celebration given President Bush's plea to Americans to cut back on fuel usage. Surely there is something better that can be done with our military manpower other than a boastful display of flying skills, like perhaps airlifting supplies and materials to aid the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Am I missing something here? Perhaps the thunder that...

Military Kids Need Educators' Help in Overcoming Fears By Rudi WilliamsAmerican Forces Press Service WASHINGTON, Aug. 10, 2004 – Educators always try to help children overcome their fears. But when they work with military kids, they find all kinds of fears they hadn't encountered before, said a retired Marine major general and former astronaut at a recent conference. Former astronaut and retired Marine Maj. Gen. Charles F. Bolden Jr. logged more than 6,000 flying hours, including more than 100 combat sorties in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, and spent more than 680 hours in space. NASA photo(Click photo...

CONSIDERING THAT I'm writing this from inside the bunker of what many regard as the Alliance of Neocon Warmongers, it bears mentioning that Michael Moore and I have one surprising trait in common: We both believe that the war in Iraq was ill-advised, ill-planned, and ill-executed, an apparent failure bordering on unmitigated disaster, that was never in our best national interest. Around our office over the last two years, I've made these arguments to colleagues, open-minded types who, after they put me through my water-boarding/naked pyramid sessions, say they'll take it under advisement. And I make the disclosure now so...

Okay, call me a dummy... I seem to have lost the ability to access the "help" files in MS Office XP. I can type in my search criteria (like "Active X"), and it'll popup with a list of suggestions, but if I click on one of the suggestions, the help directory doesn't pop up like it used to. What am I missing? Thanks fellow Freepers.
