Dear Freepers,
I am creating an Excel workbook in which I would like to compare two different sets of calculations regarding the amount of taxes my client owes. I have each set of calculations on its own worksheet in one workbook. On the third worksheet I would like to insert links to the first two worksheets so that I do not have to reenter the data manually. How do I do this? I have scoured Microsoft Excel Help, and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to connect two worksheets in the same workbook.
I'm sure there's a fairly easy answer to my question, which is why I'm asking FReeper Excel users.
Thanks,
Huntress

BTW, “copy” and “paste” don’t work in this case, because the cells I want reference on sheet 3 contain formulas.

You can use a sheet to sheet link. SheetName!CellID
I do it all the time.

Go to the cell where you want to put the value, type in “=”, surf to the cell you want, click on it, hit return.

How do I enter it? I want to reference Sheet2, Cell B9. I tried Sheet2!B9, but it doesn’t recognize it.

Hit Autosum in the taget cell, surf to the cell you want, then hit Autosum again.

Are both spreadsheet in the same document? At the bottom you can right click "sheet 1" and add a Sheet 2 then transfer the data over. Then using the above posted language it will recognize the formula.
If it is on another xls doc, it's above my paygrade to solve that.
Good luck.

I don't know if this is what you are trying to do but in the cell on sheet3 that you want to combine data from sheet1 and sheet2 insert this
=Sheet1!B6+Sheet2!B6

Another cool thing is that if you rename a sheet, the new name will propagate through all the links.
for example:
If you have =Sheet2!B9 and then you rename Sheet2 to MySheet, the link will automatically change to =MySheet!B9.

Looks like you've already been pointed in the right direction with regards to referencing cells in other sheets. I just wanted to point out to you that you can copy and paste the actual results from cells which contain formulas. For instance, if you highlighted all of the cells in sheet1 and clicked "copy", you can go to sheet 3 and go to Edit -> Paste Special. WIthin the Paste Special window, you click on the "values" radial button, then click OK. Excel will paste the actual calculated values, rather than the formulas, into your sheet 3.

The problem with doing it your way is that if the amounts change on sheet 1 they won’t update on sheet 3 as they will if you put the actual formulas in the cells on sheet 3

That's true. In this case it would be better to reference the cells than to copy the values. I was only letting the poster know that it is possible to copy and paste values from cells which contain formulas, since she seemed to be under the impression that it couldn't be done.

Oh...sorry I hadn’t read that part...that’s what I get for scanning. LOL I just teach all my students that the former way is better - just in case they later go back and change something on sheet 1. I also teach them how to link a document that they’re inserting into another so that if they change the 1st one it changes the 2nd when they reopen it.

One with AMT, one without?Close. How much sales tax the client owes according to the client, and according to the state department of revenue.
