Study rules for your County and State GOP Conventions; and how delegates are selected. Each State selects delegates somewhat differently, so this must come from the bottom up to stop it. Alex Isenstadt writes in Politico: Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) campaign has been exploring the possibility of forming a unity ticket with ex-rival Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) — going so far as to conduct polling looking into how the two would perform in upcoming primary states. The motivation, hashed out in conversations among Cruz’s top aides and donors: to find a way to halt Donald Trump’s march to the Republican nomination. It’s unclear whether Cruz’s campaign brass views a partnership with Rubio as realistic or quixotic. In Rubio’s orbit, according to three sources, it’s seen as an outright nonstarter —...

The Republican Party does not require a presidential candidate to win eight states to qualify to be placed in nomination at its upcoming Cleveland convention, GOP officials say. The Republican National Committee's "Rule 40(b)" makes eligibility for the GOP nomination contingent upon winning a majority of the convention delegates in at least eight states or territories, an achievement generally accomplished by winning at least eight primary or caucus elections. However, Rule 40(b) only applied to the 2012 Republican convention in Tampa, Fla., that nominated former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Party officials and knowledgeable sources have confirmed over the past few...

While movement conservatives would like to blame the Republican establishment for the rise of Donald Trump and the attendant political problems he has created for the national Republican Party, as our friend Rick Manning, President of Americans for Limited Government, pointed out in a recent article for Breitbart, those whom we call “establishment conservatives” bear just as much responsibility for Trump’s rise. And there is no better example of how DC’s snide elitist “conservatives” have helped create Trump than a recent cover article in National Review by one Kevin D. Williamson. Mr. Williamson, who has apparently never done anything in conservative politics except pontificate for various elite journals, took to...

A group of conservative activists huddled behind closed doors Thursday at a Washington hotel to plot strategy to stop Republican front-runner Donald Trump , including calling for a unity ticket to oppose him and a floor fight at the GOP convention to deny him the nomination. The meeting was led by conservative talk radio host Erick Erickson, a longtime outspoken critic of Mr. Trump . “We believe that the issue of Donald Trump is greater than an issue of party. It is an issue of morals and character that all Americans, not just those of us in the conservative movement,...

The Trump-bashers are starting up a list of conservative supporters of Donald Trump — so that they can blackball these Trump supporters. The list was initiated by Cruz supporter Amanda Carpenter who is usually kind and intelligent but now suffers from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with...

Lindsey Graham may have thrown his support behind Ted Cruz Thursday, but he hasn't always had such kind words about the Texas senator. Graham — who is well known for his colorful statements — once said that Cruz was so hated in Congress that if someone murdered him, they’d get away with it. Here are 10 times the South Carolina senator — and former presidential candidate — bashed the same guy he’ll be fundraising for Monday: 1. "If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody could convict you," Graham...

Sen. Lindsey Graham will soon raise money for Ted Cruz's presidential campaign, as CNN's Dana Bash just reported. Which is an amazing turn of events, given the things Graham previously said about Cruz. He has said on multiple occasions that Cruz is would be the death of the Republican Party and is no better than Donald Trump. He has even joked about killing Cruz. To wit (in reverse chronological order): Feb. 26: “I was asked the hardest question in my political life: Do you agree with Donald Trump that Ted Cruz is the biggest liar in politics?” he said. “Too...

Former Speaker John Boehner endorsed Paul Ryan for president today – the day after Donald Trump won 4 of 5 states in Super Tuesday 2.0.The elites don’t give a damn about the Republican base and this is more proof. The Politico reported: Former Speaker John Boehner said Paul Ryan should be the Republican nominee for president if the party fails to choose a candidate on the first ballot. “If we don’t have a nominee who can win on the first ballot, I’m for none of the above,†Boehner said at the Futures Industry Association conference here. “They all had a chance...

Welcome to the club, America! You're now experiencing first-hand what was previously seen as something that only happened in foreign lands: an overt electoral hijacking attempt by establishment elites. What do you do when the democratic process turns out to be a bit too democratic, in the sense that people on the side that's currently winning don't support your worldview? You swarm it and use the media attention to issue your own manifesto. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has the establishments on both the left and the right so riled that they're no longer even being discreet in pulling out...

Mitt Romney, in his latest attempt to help stop Donald J. Trump, joined Gov. John Kasich of Ohio on the campaign trail on Monday as Mr. Kasich tries to pull out a victory in his home state. At an air museum between Akron and Canton, where Mr. Kasich’s campaign bus pulled in next to a World War II-era bomber, Mr. Romney highlighted Mr. Kasich’s experience in Congress and as Ohio’s governor. “Unlike the other people running, he has a real track record,” Mr. Romney said in introducing Mr. Kasich at the town hall style event. “He has the kind of...

In a room full of Republican donors last week, Gov. John Kasich said something you don’t normally hear at a GOP fundraiser. “This isn’t popular to always say, but I believe there is a problem with climates, climate change in the atmosphere,” Kasich told a Ross County Republican function on Thursday. “I believe it. I don’t know how much there is, but I also know the good Lord wants us to be good stewards of his creation. And so, at the end of the day, if we can find these breakthroughs to help us have a cleaner environment, I’m all...

As “moderate” Ohio Governor John Kasich continues to remain in the Republican race, his PAC “New Day for America” just received a major donation that’s raising eyebrows among conservatives.

As new reports break that a George Soros-linked group is taking credit for efforts to violently disrupt GOP frontrunner Donald Trump’s campaign rallies, the Center for Responsive Politics reveals that another George Soros-linked group is coordinating another furtive operation to stop Trump by financing the campaign of John Kasich. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Soros Fund Management is one of John Kasich’s top financial contributors $202,700

Suddenly, it’s 1964. That’s the year the Republican Establishment ignored the prairie fire started by the conservative supporters of Barry Goldwater, who systematically grabbed control of the GOP by scoring in precinct meeting state caucuses, delegate conventions and ultimately the big California Primary. By the time the GOP insiders woke up, it was too late, but they launched a furious last minute attack on the Senator from Arizona. He was a “warmonger,†“not fit to be President,†“a bigot,†“a racist,†“mentally unstable,†“would push the nuclear button,†and his supporters were “Nazis.†Does this sound familiar?

Hillary Clinton will not be elected president of the United States. Why? Because she can't win, that's why. And the sooner you figure this out, the calmer you will be. She wants desperately to win. She's endured painful decades of Bill, years of Barack, eating all the insults like so many sins and swallowing them down as the price of her ambition. It's all there in the dull weight of her eyes. But I just don't see Hillary winning this election, because she's the lone candidate of the establishment in a year of insurgency. Common wisdom and her fierce Clinton...

A Republican National Committee Standing Rules Committee member told the membership Friday that convention delegates are not bound to cast their votes at the convention according to primary vote results in the first round of voting. Curly Haugland of North Dakota, a long time member of the RNC Standing Rules Committee, sent a letter to the RNC membership at large about this issue. He explained how he came to the conclusion that all Republican delegates who participate in the 2016 Republican National Convention are unbound on each ballot round, including the first. Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz Split Anti-Donald Trump Vote In Florida A Florida Atlantic University public opinion poll released Saturday showed Donald Trump with 44 percent of the vote and Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz with 21 percent each. With the primary just days away, 5 percent of Florida Republicans still hadn't made up their minds. If the numbers hold through Tuesday's primary, the billionaire businessman and part-time Palm Beach resident would win all of Florida's 99 nominating delegates in the winner-take-all primary. If Rubio, Florida's junior U.S. senator, fares as poorly in actual votes in his home state as the...
