  • Obama’s Post-Family America--Fracturing social structures are leading to a fractured nation

The Republican Party went into the 2012 elections with a number of handicaps. One of the biggest of these handicaps was that it genuinely believed in a single country defined by the American Dream of family values, hard work and national greatness. The Democratic Party, which scored decisive victories across the country, never believed in any such thing, though its leading lights, like Obama, occasionally paid lip service to the idea as a sop to older white voters who would have been turned off by the 2012 version of Obama sounding like the 2002 version of Obama. Where the Republican...

Just after George Bush took office there was a great deal of talk about immigration. The GOP was in full capitulate mode hoping to corral the Latino/Hispanic vote by a proposal of amnesty. The only thing, in my opinion, that stopped it was 9-11. Because of that Bush had to put amnesty aside. We all know by now that Bush only got 40% of the Hispanic vote in 2000.Now, about that title. It comes from a speech George Bush made in Miami during his campaign in August of 2000.Here is an excerpt: We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking...

There were silver linings on Election Day that should not be dismissed. It's time to disband the circular firing squad and focus on the superb opportunities conservatives face in the 2014 midterms and the 2016 general election. More

Democrats won big last week. So government will continue to grow. Individual freedom will yield. At least some people with records of supporting liberty were elected: Sen. Jeff Flake in Arizona and U.S. Reps. Justin Amash and Kerry Bentivolio in Michigan and Thomas Massie in Kentucky. Also, Washington and Colorado voted to allow any adult to use marijuana. (But users beware. Your newfound freedom may be short-lived thanks to that extraordinary human being in the White House -- you know, the one who smoked pot when he was in school. Despite promising that he wouldn't, he has cracked down on...

Florida’s fiasco on Election Day is getting worse. Broward elections workers Monday said they found 963 unaccounted-for ballots a week after the election was over. Members of the Broward County Canvassing Board were told the ballots were put in the wrong place. Election department workers spent the day counting them and adding their results to the final totals.

“Why is the Republican Party so white?” is the great whine issuing forth from the fat mouths of a thousand media outlets. The Republican Party needs to be a party that “looks more like America” is the big lie of the left. So let’s take a look at the racial composition of Americans and the percent of the racial vote that Democrats and Republicans received to see which party really looks more like America. There’s America in gray. And the Republican Party in red right next to it. And there’s the Democratic Party off to the side looking nothing like...
  • Mitt Romney’s legacy: No ‘Romneyists’

In a New York magazine piece this week, Benjamin Wallace-Wells eulogizes Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign. The headline pretty much sums it up: “So long, Mitt: In love with America, terrified for its future, relegated to its past.” But in the final paragraph, Wallace-Wells made a good observation about Romney’s lasting legacy as the GOP nominee. “[J]ust a week after Romney seemed poised to become president,” he writes, “there is no segment of the Republican Party that could be called Romneyist.” That’s part of the reason why he lost. Many times during the campaign, I slammed Romney for his ideological promiscuity....

To the relief and near jubilation of the Russian officer corps, President Vladimir Putin finally sacked his controversial Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov on November 6, replacing him with Sergei Shoigu. However, the initial Russian media frenzy that ensued masked the deeper reasons for Serdyukov’s dismissal and the early efforts to sweep the defense ministry and top brass of the former minister’s loyalists. Putin’s changes to the top brass, including the appointment of a new Chief of the General Staff, indicate that more than a change of furniture is underway in the defense ministry’s leadership (Ekho Moskvy, November 9). Sergei Shoigu...

WASHINGTON - The battle to shape the Republican Party's direction after its electoral losses will see its first skirmish in the Capitol on Wednesday in a House leadership fight in which the profile might be low but the symbolism is high. The House's Republican leaders would dearly like to elevate Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington to lead the House Republican Conference, putting a female face into the pantheon of the white male Republican leaders. But standing in their way is Rep. Tom Price of Georgia, one of the most conservative members of the House who has lined up some...

Below is the entirety of McShane’s message: University Statement | Ann Coulter Appearance Cancelled November 10, 2012Late yesterday, Fordham received word that the College Republicans, a student club at the University, has rescinded its lecture invitation to Ann Coulter. A US soldier accused of killing 16 civilians - nine of them children - in southern Afghanistan in March should face the death penalty, military prosecutors say. Several soldiers told the preliminary hearing that Sgt Robert Bales returned to their base covered in blood. Sgt Bales' lawyer says there is not enough evidence for him to stand trial. The lead investigator in the case will make a recommendation on whether a full court martial ought to proceed. Col Lee Deneke will make his recommendation to a senior general by the end of this week, who will then make a decision...

Republicans’ post-election loss ritual of scapegoating and finger pointing has begun, and, as is almost always the case, conservatism, and in particular values issues, is getting the bulk of the blame. Republican elites will soon join liberal commentators in declaring that the party must moderate on social issues or risk consigning itself to permanent minority status. But while the GOP would benefit from a period of reflection and self-examination, and while the party does need to adjust how it communicates with voters on social issues, its core values cannot change. It would be difficult to argue that November 6th was...

California's Uncounted Mail-In Ballots Reach Thousands November 13, 2012 SACRAMENTO (KABC) -- There are plenty of vote-by-mail ballots in California that won't count in the final November tally, largely because of postmarks and signatures. There's a group out to change some of those ballot rules, hoping to boost voter turnout. Thousands of vote-by-mail ballots throughout California are sitting in county registrar offices right now and will never be counted. Some signatures on ballot envelopes don't match the one on the voter registration card. Other ballots are from previous elections. But the most common reason a ballot doesn't get counted: it...

(snip) When you’re evaluating yourself, what qualities do you try to focus on? Petraeus: On every bit of guidance I give, the last instruction is: Learn and adapt. We also work very hard on [being] **first with the truth**. That’s a powerful admonition: First of all, we’re going to **tell the truth**. We’re not going to put lipstick on pigs. We’re going to be absolutely **100% forthright** and **brutally honest** with — not just with ourselves and with our subordinates and our superiors — but **with the press**. The credibility of leaders is of enormous importance. How do you identify...

Most conservatives believe that the re-election of President Barack Obama is going to bring dire economic circumstances over the next four years, which could possibly drive the Nation into total collapse. The belief is likely not far-fetched considering the current state of affairs in American economics as the United States hurls toward a “fiscal cliff” which will combine rising tax rates and government shutdowns, the government prepares to raise its debt limit again to the tune of $2.4 trillion and the number of Americans out of work continues to trend at dismal levels. All of the ominous headlines about the shape of...
