EVERETT - A statewide computer sweep of voter registration records in Washington found 11,500 voters listed as dead by the state Health Department. The sweep this month also found 36,000 voters who appear to be registered in two counties. The manager of the new $6 million database project, Pam Floyd, says the names have been flagged for further scrutiny. Snohomish County immediately canceled the voter registrations for the more than 1,400 dead people. The state has 3.5 million registered voters. Monthly sweeps are planned for duplicate and deceased voters. In March, officials plan to create the first comprehensive list of...

In an unexpected twist in the Election Day tire slashing trial, four former Kerry-Edwards campaign staffers, including the sons of U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Milwaukee) and former Acting Mayor Marvin Pratt, have agreed to plead no contest to misdemeanors. The plea agreements came in the middle of jury deliberations after an eight-day trial on felony property damage charges that carried potential 3 1/2 year prison terms upon conviction. Michael Pratt, 33, Sowande Omokunde, 26, Lewis G. Caldwell, 29, and Lavelle Mohammad, 36, have all pleaded no contest to misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property. Omokunde is Moore's son. Prosecutors...

Democrat Christine Gregoire will be sworn in as Washington's Governor today, possibly thanks to voters such as Mary Coffey, James Courneya and Rosalie Simpson. Why do we mention them in particular? Because, as the Seattle Post-Intelligencer recently reported, they're all dead... Revelations of the formerly living casting ballots in elections isn't new to American politics, although it's something most of us thought was a relic of the late Richard Daley's Chicago. But this isn't the only jaw-dropper to have come out of Washington's gubernatorial race, which Ms. Gregoire claims to have won -- on a third recount, by 129 votes...

SCOTT REESE WILLEY The Progress Karnes County attorney and rancher Eric Opiela said he has presented evidence to a special committee of state lawmakers on Friday showing that more than 1,700 fraudulent ballots were cast in the Nov. 2 general election in Jim Wells and Bee counties. In addition, he added, a precinct by precinct mathematical analysis of the illegal votes show that when the fraudulent ballots are deducted from the vote totals, Opiela won the race for State Rep. District 35 by 110 votes. District 35 includes Atascosa, Bee, Goliad, Jim Wells, Karnes, Live Oak and McMullen counties. “The...

My daughter was the Judge at a precinct here in Ohio yesterday, and is familiar with election laws. Today, on Kerry's website (johnkerry.com) she saw photos of Kerry, Teressa, and a daughter(whatshername) casting their votes in Boston. The daughter is wearing a campaign button in violation of Massachausetts law. This was confirmed by a phone call to the Massachusetts Seceretary of The Commonwealth, elections division. They looked at the photos on-line and said it was a violation of election law, and would refer the matter to their legal advisor (ya, sure). Theressa didn't vote in Boston--she is registered in Pennsylvania--near...

November 01, 2004 Live Report From Courtroom A Mr. Jordan was just testifying at the hearing in Daschle's lawsuit to stop poll watching. He worked for Howard Dean in Iowa. He said that poll watchers would "roll their eyes" and make a "negative face" at times and that, in his opinion, this constituted "intimidation" of voters. See SDP for a look at the complaint. UPDATE: Another report on Daschle's first witness, the Howard Dean worker. He's a lawyer from Virginia who works for Lexis-Nexis and has been in South Dakot for 48 hours. He testified to "note-taking" and "faces" being...

I never felt any longing to go to Orlando, Florida. What I felt, in traveling south to volunteer for the campaign of George W. Bush, was an obligation. Let me explain by first saying something about the critics of our president. A great many of them like to laugh at George Bush for not reading books and for being uninterested in visiting other countries. But a lot of those same people are guilty of the opposite offense. They prefer to read books and travel abroad rather than actually getting to know their own country face to face. These critics do...

REPOST FROM MICHAEL MOORE: Friends, You may have heard by now that the Michigan Republican Party has called for my arrest. That's right. They literally want me brought up on charges -- and hope that I'm locked up. No, I'm not kidding. The Republican Party, yesterday, filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutors in each of the counties where I spoke last week in Michigan. My crime? Clean underwear for anyone who will vote in the upcoming election. Each night on our 60-city "Slacker Uprising Tour" through the 20 battleground states, I've been registering hundreds (and on some nights, thousands)...
