A Texas world history teacher is accused of having a sexual relationship with a former male student after the two met at a restaurant, authorities said. Michelle Schiffer, 23, of Houston, allegedly had sexual intercourse with one of her former students, now 16, in July after the two met up at a local Chick-fil-A restaurant, court documents stated. The alleged improper relationship was reported by an anonymous student to Cheryl Henry, principal of Cypress-Springs High School where Schiffer taught. Authorities said Schiffer admitted to meeting the student at the restaurant before they went to a friend’s apartment to have sex,...

Trinity College Dublin, one of Ireland’s most prestigious universities, has announced that it will phase out use of the term “Freshman” in favor of the more gender-neutral “Fresh.” Currently, first and second year students at Trinity are referred to as “junior freshmen” and “senior freshmen.” The school’s Vice-Provost Chris Morash and Student Union President Kevin Keane shared the news in a mass email sent on Tuesday. They noted that the change stems from a proposal from Trinity’s Equality Committee that “the title given to first and second year undergraduates students be changed from ‘Freshman’ to the gender-neutral term ‘Fresh.’” […]...

After three years, 30 percent of the people who used mouthwash twice or more a day progressed to pre-diabetes or diabetes, compared to 20 percent of those who used the rinses less frequently. Ultimately, the very frequent mouthwash users had a 55 percent higher risk of developing one of the conditions than the less frequent users, the study notes. The impact stayed the same when the researchers controlled for age, sex, smoking, physical activity, alcohol consumption and other factors.

Lucian Wintrich’s speech Tuesday night was cut short when a girl in the audience appeared to take something off the podium he was using and then started to leave. Cellphone videos posted on Twitter show Wintrich running up to the girl and grabbing her before other audience members get involved. Police quickly stepped in and led Wintrich away. There was no immediate word on any potential charges. Wintrich is the White House correspondent for the right-wing blog Gateway Pundit.

    - ASSOCIATE EDITOR 408 511 Share0 0 Conflated ‘intoxication’ with ‘incapacitation’ Did University of Texas President Greg Fenves unilaterally overturn a finding in favor of a student accused of rape because the accuser’s father gave the university a hefty donation? We’ll never know, because the public university settled with “John Doe” rather than risk Fenves having to testify earlier today in the accused student’s lawsuit against him and the school. The president had said he overruled the decision because “someone who is intoxicated cannot give consent to sexual activity because they are incapacitated,” which is wrong under both criminal law...

A teacher in Indiana is facing drug charges after police say video captured her allegedly making lines of cocaine while in a classroom. The video, shared on social media, shows the English teacher, Samantha Cox, 24, sitting alone in the classroom with a book on her lap. Students said it appeared Cox was making lines of cocaine. “Lake Central is a safe school. You know, we have a lot of pride. We love our school a lot. And for something like this to happen, it’s just, it’s very unusual,” student Michael Sanchez told WLS TV. Cox was later escorted out...

Tufts University postponed an event with Anthony Scaramucci after the former White House communications director threatened a lawsuit over an opinion piece published in the student newspaper. Scaramucci was scheduled to speak at the university’s Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy on Monday, but a university spokesman told The Boston Globe the event would be delayed until “legal matters” are resolved. In a letter dated Nov. 21, Scaramucci’s lawyer said he would take legal action unless the newspaper retracted “false and defamatory allegations of fact” in an op-ed piece calling for Scaramucci’s removal from an advisory board at the school....

FULL TITLE: Should we talk about the fact that women in positions of power are sexually abusing minors under their authority too? Life isn't like a Van Halen song. I know what you're going to say. No teenage boy will object to this type of "abuse." Just as the sexes are inherently different, the distinguishing factor here is that the women in question didn't want the sexual attention. The boys not only wanted it but probably couldn't believe their luck. But you're forgetting something. There's a reason we have an age of consent that applies to both boys and girls,...

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) -- A parent in Florida is citing profanity and violence in trying to get the local school to ban Ray Bradbury's "Fahrenheit 451" - itself a cautionary tale on the banning of books. Another wants to remove Walter Dean Myers' "Bad Boy" for using the word "penis" and a homophobic slur. Elsewhere in Florida, some say global warming and evolution are a hoax and should not be taught in textbooks unopposed. Others say their local school's textbooks shortchange Islam's role in the world, while their opponents argue it's the danger posed by Muslim terrorists that's underexposed....

Handguns. Liberals tell us how evil they are. Liberals tell us how evil they believe Trump to be. They claim the Russians somehow meddled in our elections. What about the use of Russian handguns in murders in the United States? Almost never. Rarely are Tokarevs or Makarovs used in murders in the U.S. to kill someone. You would think the Russians would be more active in having their weapons used to kill U.S. citizens. Fact is, even though U.S. handguns are available in much higher numbers, that is not the issue statistically. THE truth is that Americans who buy Russian...

Arizona State University is revoking an award bestowed on journalist Charlie Rose, who was fired this week by CBS News and PBS in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations from multiple women. […] Rose was given the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism in 2015. Dean Christopher Callahan said in a statement that the actions reported about Rose were too “egregious” to ignore. He says Rose’s actions victimized young women who were not unlike the students attending Cronkite. …

"Christianity has a long legacy of great minds who toiled to understand the Holy Scriptures and Christian orthodoxy and applied them in ways to navigate matters of politics and international relations. However, today there is great confusion, partly due to the lack of proper catechesis, which works as a bulwark against bad doctrine and progressivism in general." "Now this independent, spirited president and his administration have come at a time when these concepts are being rediscovered and debated. What is America? How do we preserve her culturally? How do we rediscover, appreciate, and protect her?" "No doubt you’ve also seen,...

Pixar is back - the bold, creative Coco ... manages to tell a family-friendly story centered entirely around death, one that reflects on the legacy we leave behind. Coco proves to be a pleasant surprise - an emotional, philosophical story of life and death, that despite the gorgeous visuals, doesn’t sugar-coat anything. Right away, both the importance and the potential danger of respecting one’s heritage is highlighted, and proves to be a poignant theme. Our young protagonist Miguel yearns to play the guitar, but his artistic urges are severely repressed by his family, who...
  • How Thanksgiving Celebrates The Birth Of American Free Enterprise

This time of the year, whether in good economic times or bad, is when Americans gather with their families and friends and enjoy a Thanksgiving meal together. It marks a remembrance of those early Pilgrim Fathers who crossed the uncharted ocean from Europe to make a new start in Plymouth, Massachusetts. What is less appreciated is that Thanksgiving also is a celebration of the birth of free enterprise in America.
