"NEWBERG, Ore. -- Police have arrested the man suspected of driving drunk and causing a multi-vehicle crash that killed a mother of seven from Dayton last weekend. Senior Trooper Mark McDougal arrested 26-year-old Leonel Zurita Loeza of Portland on charges of assault, manslaughter, criminal mischief, reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants. Investigators say Loeza was driving a car that crossed a center grass median on Highway 99W between Dundee and Newberg and struck a vehicle driven by 52-year-old Carma Smith, a mother of seven. "

South Bend, IN - A South Bend police officer, found guilty for drunk driving, learned Wednesday that he's being demoted. Sergeant Ronald Nowicki will be demoted to a corporal. The South Bend Board of Public Safety went above and beyond the police chief's recommendation of a 21-day suspension. Nowicki will also face that 21 day suspension without pay beginning Thursday. In late December, Nowicki pleaded guilty to operating while intoxicated. Nowicki did not attend Wednesday's hearing, but NewsCenter 16 did speak with him about the decision.
