In the midst of a human rights crisis and violent pro-democracy manifestations in China, Judicial Watch has obtained records that expose a troubling partnership between a public American university and the Chinese Communists at the heart of the abuses. The records show that the University of Arizona (UA), a taxpayer-funded institution with an enrollment of about 44,000, paid $100,000 to launch a Confucius Institute on its Tucson campus more than a decade ago and subsequently dedicated nearly $2 million and other public resources to keep it going. Confucius Institutes were founded by the Chinese government and are managed by China’s...

Twenty-one states and the District of Columbia are suing the Trump administration over new rules that would cut federal funding from Planned Parenthood and other clinics that provide or discuss abortions. California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, a Democrat, announced his decision on Monday to sue separately in a press conference and a coalition of 19 other states and the District of Columbia prepared to file their own suit Tuesday. The rule in dispute applies to a $286 million-a-year grant, known as Title X, that pays for birth control, testing of sexually transmitted diseases, and cancer screenings for 4 million low-income...

Despite continuous promises to the pro-life cause, Republican budgets still fund Planned Parenthood to the tune of over $500 million each year. Efforts to decertify the nation’s largest abortion-mill chain ran into stiff opposition during the ObamaCare repeal effort from Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, and Democrats torpedoed an attempt to include it in the budget agreement. The legislative path seems all but dead unless Republicans can win enough Senate seats to overcome a filibuster as well as hold onto the House in November — an outcome with odds on the order of having the Cleveland Browns win the...

The administration of new U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly preparing executive orders that aim to minimize the role the U.S. plays in the UN and other international bodies, including organizations supporting the Palestinians or in which the Palestinian Authority has official representatives. According to a report published in the New York Times on Wednesday, the first of two draft orders calls for stopping US funding to any UN or other global agency according to a list of criteria. One of these criteria is giving the Palestinian Authority or the Palestinian Liberation Organization full membership, or any organization that “is...
  • Kasich signs bill to defund Planned Parenthood

Ohio Gov. John Kasich signed a bill Sunday prohibiting the state from contracting for health services with any organization that performs or promotes abortions, blocking government funds to Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood isn't explicitly named in the legislation, but the law will prevent more than $1 million in funding from the state health department from going to the nonprofit to fund programs such as HIV testing, health screenings and prevention of violence against women. Kasich, who's tried to project a more moderate image as a Republican presidential candidate on some issues, had been expected to sign the measure. A spokesman...

Commenting on the passage of a bill in the House of Representatives to defund Planned Parenthood, Reverend Franklin Graham said it was "a great step" that he hopes will also pass in the Senate, adding that although President Barack Obama has said he will veto such legislation, if he does "it will be at his own peril," and the blood of the children "butchered at Planned Parenthood will be on his hands." "After much heated and emotional debate, on Friday the House passed the Defund Planned Parenthood Act," said Rev. Graham in a Sept. 20 post on Facebook. "This is...

We do have the numbers to force a shutdown, but McConnell’s already ruled that out. I’m going to look on the bright side here: At least this guy’s trying to spare us another dismal episode of GOP failure theater. If we had a majority in the Senate that was prepared to dig in and have this fight on principle, no matter what the polls say, it’d be worth considering a shutdown. Obama might blink if it lasted long enough. Because we have the majority we have, there’s really no point. It’ll play out just as lefty Bill Scher says...

Another year. Another looming deadline for funding the federal government. Another hot-button issue whipping conservatives into a froth. In the fall of 2013 it was Obamacare. In December 2014 it was immigration. This year it’s Planned Parenthood. Some conservatives seem determined to bet the farm, and the federal government, on defunding the women’s health services provider. Big mistake.Let’s put aside political questions. Sure, I could tell you that the 2013 shutdown severely damaged the GOP brand; defiant conservatives will respond that Republicans won the 2014 midterms anyway. (Some have even convinced themselves that the shutdown helped.)And I could tell you that...

With each new release of undercover videos from Center for Medical Progress, political pressure has ramped up on Republican leadership in Congress to cut off federal funding for Planned Parenthood. Members of the House GOP caucus now say that a bill to at least stop funds for a year will be introduced after the recess, and leadership has committed to getting a floor vote on it: House Republican leaders are planning a vote to freeze funding for Planned Parenthood this fall, according to GOP aides, a move that could help mitigate an inter-party battle and avoid a government shutdown.“We’re...

Kick the federal government out of their State in regards to Planned Parenthood, abortion, any and all health services, health programs, health care, or health insurance intrusions Radio Host Dave Levine, a host on KMET 1490 AM on Monday, wrote on his blog, “Arkansas is the fourth state to terminate such contracts with the Feds—New Hampshire, Alabama and Louisiana are the others. By this time next year, 30-plus states will have stopped funding the baby killer company.” Mr. Levine was referring to Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson’s decision to order his State’s Department of Human Services to terminate the Medicaid contract...

Little by little… Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson on Friday canceled the state’s contracts with Planned Parenthood, making his the third Southern state to do so since anti-abortion activists released a series of videos that they say suggests the organization sells fetal tissue.“It is apparent that after the recent revelations on the actions of Planned Parenthood, that this organization does not represent the values of the people of our state and Arkansas is better served by terminating any and all existing contracts with them,” Hutchinson, a Republican, said in a statement. The move comes after the U.S. government has warned states...

Can states restrict Medicaid funding to keep it from flowing to the nation’s largest abortion-mill chain? The Obama administration says no, and has fired warning shots across bows of two states that moved to block funds to Planned Parenthood. Louisiana and Alabama both vowed to cut off funds as a series of undercover investigative videos exposes their business practices on organ harvesting and revenue, but the White House warned yesterday that they do not have that authority: [T]he White House points out that federal law says Medicaid beneficiaries may obtain services from any qualified provider and that cutting Planned...

In a series of tweets Thursday, Alabama's Republican Governor Robert Bentley made his state the third one to cut state funds from Planned Parenthood this week, as the fallout continues from the recent release of five controversial videos describing the harvesting and marketing of aborted babies' organs for financial reward. "The deplorable practices at Planned Parenthood have been exposed to Americans. I've terminated any association with the organization in AL," noted Bentley, a medical doctor, on his Twitter account. "As a doctor and Alabama's governor, the issue of human life, from conception to birth and beyond, is extremely important to...

The Left’s commitment to Planned Parenthood is extraordinary. Not only are Democratic politicians vowing to shut down the government, if necessary, to keep more than $500 million flowing to the organization that is willing to provide “less crunchy” abortions to maintain the supply of intact baby body parts, some leftists are now claiming that there may be insurmountable legal hurdles to defunding the abortion giant. In other words, even if Republicans can ram legislation through Congress and past the president, the courts will keep the money flowing. Their argument rests on Medicaid. While it would be fairly simple for...

Unfortunately, a bill to de-fund Planned Parenthood died today on the Senate floor. A procedural vote to advance the bill failed to get the required 60 votes needed, so the anti-life lobby won — today. Despite this setback, Christians should not despair. We may have lost this battle, but the fight is far from over. And truth is, the pro-life cause is actually faring quite well. Here are five reasons to not lose heart even after this defeat. 1. GOP Senators are Vowing to Continue the Fight and So Should We. Even though today's bill to defund Planned Parenthood failed,...

The U.S. Senate has rejected a bill to defund Planned Parenthood and transfer its estimated $500 million in federal funds to other women's health sources. Senate Bill 1881 failed to get the 60 votes required to have debate closed and a vote on the proposed legislation granted, with the results largely falling along party lines. Introduced by Senator Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, S. 1881 called for the defunding of Planned Parenthood and placing it in other sources for women's health. "All funds no longer available to Planned Parenthood will continue to be made available to other eligible entities to provide women's...

WASHINGTON (AP) — West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin says he will back a Republican bill cutting off federal aid for Planned Parenthood. Manchin is a moderate and his decision Monday was not a complete surprise. Even so, Republicans were still expected to lose a Senate vote later Monday to halt federal assistance to the group. Republicans introduced their bill after an anti-abortion group began releasing secretly recorded videos showing Planned Parenthood officials describing how they provide tissue from some aborted fetuses to researchers. The bill says it would transfer Planned Parenthood's aid to other women's health care providers.
