Who could gave guessed that defunding the police would cause crime to skyrocket?
Anyone with common sense, obviously. But, woke cities run by liberals learned the hard way as my colleague Stephen Kruiser wrote on June 7. According to a report from Fox Business, cities including New York City, Oakland, Baltimore, Minneapolis, and Los Angeles are “planning to reinstate tens of millions for the construction of new police precincts, increase police department budgets, among other plans to bankroll more efforts to confront the uptick in crime.”
Homicides alone have increased 24 percent since January, according to the report.
New York City “will return $92 million for a new precinct after the project had been cut last summer” as shooting incidents are up 68 percent this year, and have gone up 30 percent in the last month alone. Mayor DeBlasio will also restore half the $400 billion he cut from the NYPD’s operating budget. Baltimore, Maryland will reverse its $22 million cut to the police budget this year with an increase of $27 million.
Residents and businesses have also pushed back on the efforts to defund the police. “A group of 37 restaurants and small businesses in Baltimore recently sent a letter to the mayor, city council, and state’s attorney threatening to go on a tax and fee strike until leadership starts enforcing the law and addressing crime, drug dealing and other issues.” Residents of Minneapolis, Minnesota also filed a lawsuit against the city for failing to keep the people safe. According to the lawsuit, the city hasn’t met its minimum ratio of officers per citizen as required by the city charter.
But that’s not all. A community in Atlanta is responding to the “defund the police” efforts there by separating from the city and forming its own police department.

Police departments should refuse the funds until the politicians that voted to defund them are removed from office.

Re-Funding police departments will do nothing if there isn’t anyone applying to them.
Something that doesn’t seem to ever be talked about is the number of qualified folks that are out there anymore.
Men and women in their early to mid 20s DO NOT WANT the job anymore. And that has been an ongoing issue long before ANTIFA/BLM. Even the departments in the northeast and west coast, that have great Kay and great pensions have been ja I y trouble getting folks.
Decades of emasculating men, raising pajama boys and everyone is going to be the next Zuckerberg has caused a massive shortage of guys wanting and willing to take these jobs.
I'll bet the new police academy admission requirements will be for candidates with enhanced skills in peacemaking and nonviolent problem resolution.
The cities are refunding their police departments but are they going to let the police do their job?
I wonder if they will be required to be woke too.
That’s a completely different issue.
I was one. At a time when you could police. Now, you get more aggressive than the Left thinks you should have and you’re before a Grand Jury. Nope.
Police have left these cities in droves. I doubt they are going to come back and I doubt any recent police academy graduate in his right mind would go to work in these cities.
People who live in their infantile la-la land of utopian dreams. “If only we could get rid of all the prisons and police, there would be no crime.”
These city councils have put bulls eyes on the backs of their cops for 20 years or more. Why would anybody take a cop job in those places that HATE cops is beyond me.
Not just the city councils. The voters as well.
As the old saying goes …. Everyone hates the cops until they need one.
I was one in Atlanta. Saw it firsthand.
Sometimes the cops do t do themselves any favors, but at the end of the day, Democrat voters are reaping what they’ve sown.
Sadly, the ones that have contributed to this, but are able to move out, just spread their nonsense to the next place.
Thanks for pointing that out. City councils are, of course, elected bodies. So ultimately this originates with the voters.

Also the leftist "prosecutors" that won't prosecute and the leftist "judges" who play catch and release.
