FAIRFIELD, Calif. -- A woman shot and killed her suspected kidnapper as he was fleeing officers with her and a baby in the car, police said. Fairfield police say the woman was in a car when she tried to get the attention of an officer, saying she was being assaulted and kidnapped. The car drove off, with the officer in pursuit. A Texas sheriff called an Oklahoma grandmother a hero Wednesday for preventing a man from abducting one of her granddaughters. Sharrel Blankenbaker, 63, from the small Oklahoma Panhandle town of Felt, was shot to death in the parking lot of a Love's store on Interstate 40 in Amarillo, Texas.
