Fans on Twitter are criticizing the Georgia football “culture” after recruit Jamaal Jarrett uttered a racist remark during a live stream of the 2023 NFL Draft on Thursday. Jarrett, a four-star defensive tackle recruit who committed to play under Kirby Smart starting in 2023, derogatorily said “ching chong” while an Asian child announced the Falcons’ eighth pick in the draft – and now some are calling for consequences. “Suspend him and public apology needed,” one Twitter user wrote.

There is a problem with the Bowl Championship Series, but it’s not the one you probably think. College football doesn’t need a playoff. A traditional playoff system – an eight-team or even four-team bracket – brings nothing in the way of advantages over the current system and probably would make things considerably worse. Don’t tell me the traditional architecture for playoffs is the only – or even most – accurate way to determine a champion. The St. Louis Cardinals just won the World Series under that system despite having fewer wins in the regular season than any other team that...

For a few unforgettable days in 1941, it seemed fate had plans for Larry Munson that had nothing to do with the Georgia Bulldogs. After all, once you’ve shared the stage with Frank Sinatra, it’s hard to dream of night games in Starkville, Miss. As a high school senior in Minneapolis, Munson was, by his own account, a “decent” piano player who loved jazz. He was in class when the phone call came. The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, in town and scheduled to play 28 shows over the next week, had lost its regular piano player to illness. “I had no...

Damon Evans is out as athletic director at the University of Georgia, WSB-TV Sports Director Zach Klein is reporting. The official announcement will come Monday, according to the report. Klein, citing a source close to UGA's athletic department, reports that UGA President Michael Adams asked for and received Evans' resignation. Evans, 40, was arrested on a DUI charge after a traffic stop late Wednesday night in Atlanta. Evans refused a breathalyzer test and spent the night in the city jail. Courtney Fuhrmann, 28, who was in the car with Evans, was arrested for disorderly conduct. A married father of two,...

SEATTLE — Southern California was leveled by another post-Ohio State funk, taken down by upstart Washington with a late drive that must have looked familiar to the Trojans. Erik Folk kicked a 22-yard field goal with 3 seconds remaining and Washington's fired-up defense stymied fill-in quarterback Aaron Corp and No. 3 USC in a 16-13 victory Saturday. USC quarterback Matt Barkley, who directed an epic game-winning drive to beat the Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio, last week, could only watch the latest stunning upset loss by the Trojans from the sideline. The star freshman was out with a sore shoulder.

After 43 years as the lead voice on Georgia's radio network, play-by-play announcer Larry Munson announced Monday that he has retired, effective immediately. The 85-year-old Munson called No. 3 Georgia's first two home games this season but said he will not be in the booth Saturday when the Bulldogs take on No. 8 Alabama. "I can't express enough my deep feelings toward the Georgia football fans," Munson said in a statement released by Georgia. "They have been so friendly especially during this most recent period of time. I feel I owe them so much more than I can give. I'll...

10/6/2005 - ALI BASE, Iraq (AFPN) -- It was 5 p.m. on Oct. 2 and the 407th Personnel Support for Contingency Operations section here was winding down the day shift. The cable dawgs of the 407th Expeditionary Communications Squadron were doing the same. But things changed rapidly 10 minutes later when 1st Lt. Adam Pudenz walked into to the communication squadron compound. The PERSCO team chief could not contact them by phone or e-mail because the PERSCO building had no telephone or computer network service. “We knew what that meant right away,” said Tech. Sgt. Carl Beaty, the 407th ECS...

Browns In Awe of President By Zac Jackson, Staff Writer This report filed July 31, 2004 President Bush greets Phil Dawson Saturday morning. Photo By John H. Reid III The chance to meet George W. Bush had Browns kicker Phil Dawson feeling downright giddy. That no introduction was necessary—the President recognized Dawson and recalled a game-winning kick he’d made at the University of Texas—left Dawson speechless. Shock and awe, NFL style. Bush visited the team before practice Saturday morning, played catch with the Browns receivers, and mingled with players, coaches, and staff. “It was great to catch a pass from...

<p>CHICAGO — Walter Logan is going to be late for work. "I could have been on time," says Mr. Logan, 52, whose stop for lunch will delay his arrival at a wedding he's been hired to videotape. "But I'd rather be late and eat here."</p>

ATLANTA - As Georgia Democrats struggle to find a candidate for next year's U-S Senate race, a new name is being raised as a possibility: the University of Georgia's popular outgoing athletic director, Vince Dooley. Whether he would choose to run is another question, and Dooley didn't immediately return a telephone call. His wife, Barbara, ran unsuccessfully for Congress last year -- as a Republican. Some Democrats would like to see him in the 2004 race for the Senate seat now held by Democrat Zell Miller, the popular former governor who does n State Representative Calvin Smyre of Columbus, chairman...
