Chris Christie was on FOX and Friends Monday morning. He mocked Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee for their support of jailed Christian Court Clerk Kim Davis. Both Cruz and Huckabee will attend a protest outside the Rowan County jail on Monday. “Quite frankly I don’t think you should grandstand on this stuff. This is a serious issue. I don’t know if she’s looking forward to a visit from Senator Cruz, or not. We’ll see. But the fact is, I don’t think he should grandstand on this.”

As Kim Davis was released from jail today, she stood outside with Gov. Mike Huckabee and her attorney Matt Staver as they answered a few questions from the press. During the impromptu presser, Staver claimed that it is not Kim Davis who broke the law, but rather the clerks issuing licenses in her absence. Davis, through Staver, has taken the position that all the licenses issued since her refusal are invalid under the law, and that furthermore, she would have been breaking the law if she had issued them absent any direction from state lawmakers in Kentucky:

There is a much bigger picture in Kentucky. Forget that Kim Davis is a Democrat. Forget that she is a Christian. Focus on the issue of government (court) coercion of individual conscience. For the first time in our history, the court will now form your conscience for you or you will be removed from government service. The courts have given us a number of societal changes in recent decades from abortion to gays openly serving in the military. In each of these situations, though, what was changed was society's acceptance of a questionable practice. These things were now not illegal......

Not only is jailed Kentucky clerk Kim Davis citing her religious beliefs for denying marriage licenses to gay couples... In other states, according to USA Today:  In Alabama, as many as 10 counties have stopped issuing licenses altogether as of Wednesday. State law says that probate judges "may" issue the licenses rather than "shall."And in North Carolina, more than 30 county magistrates have refused to perform gay marriages under a law that says officials can refrain from conducting marriage-related activities.

On June the 16th the SCOTUS handed down a decision on same sex marriage. The majority opinion agreed that same sex marriages must be recognized by the states. The states would have to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples, and they would have to recognize same sex marriages performed in other states.
