MIAMI (AP) -- Hurricane Danny has formed in the Atlantic, becoming the first hurricane of the Atlantic season. Danny's maximum sustained winds Thursday morning have increased to near 75 mph (120 kph) and additional strengthening is forecast during the next two days. The hurricane is centered about 1,090 miles (1,755 kilometers) east of the Windward Islands and is moving west-northwest near 12 mph (19 kph).

Actor and activist Danny Glover has offered hugs and moral support to Cleveland-area workers at a men's suit plant that faces a shutdown next month with the loss of 375 jobs. Glover later held a news conference and appealed to Germany's Hugo Boss AG to reverse its shutdown decision. Glover led a boycott of Hugo Boss formal wear at the Academy Awards earlier this month. As of 10 AM CT, T.S. Danny was located about 320 miles northeast of Nassau and had max winds near 60 mph. Danny is not moving consistently to the northwest but that is the overall general direction of movement at about 13 mph. A general northwest motion is likely for the next 24-hours and then a more northerly turn is anticipated with an increase in forward speed.

Tropical Storm Danny officially was named this morning and the first advisory had it will sustained winds of 45 MPH and it was moving off to the NW at 18 mph.

I have been watching a wave move towards and now past the Leeward Islands since late last week and now it is showing signs of better organization as it moves by to the north of Puerto Rico. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is sending a recon flight to investigate the system further, this afternoon. I anticipate that after they have investigate the system the NHC will at minimum categorize the system as a Tropical Depression and may even be able to name the system as the next Atlantic named tropical cyclone, Danny.

Former UNLV basketball player and secretary of state candidate Danny Tarkanian will run for U.S. Senate against Harry Reid, D-Nev. Tarkanian, a Republican, posted a Web site soliciting contributions and for the position and a short biography today. A Tarkanian campaign consultant from California declined to comment and said an announcement is forthcoming.

TMZ: Danny Bonaduce interrupts "Survivor" star Jonny Fairplay as he's introducing an award Tuesday night.
